Skim long articles with Chrome's built-in AI. No data sharing. No tracking.
Reading a wall of text can turn anyone off. Skimly turns sections into skimmable summaries — if one catches your eye, click the magnifying glass to read the original. Save your time for what actually interests you.
Most AI summarizers send your text to the cloud, sharing your reading history with companies you've never heard of. Skimly uses Chrome's built-in Summarizer API instead — everything runs on your device, for free.
Private by design. Zero browser permissions. No tracking. No servers. No paid plans. No social features. Just you and what you're reading.
HOW IT WORKS
Most summarizers flatten an article into a single paragraph. You get the gist but lose the structure — which sections mattered, where the argument turned, what you'd actually want to read.
Skimly keeps the bones of the article intact. Click the toolbar icon and every paragraph gets a zoom-out lens. Click any lens to shrink that section to its key point. The headings stay, the structure stays, your reading position stays. Scan the shape of the piece and expand the parts that earn your attention.
· Per-paragraph zoom out and back in — you control the depth
· Headings and article structure preserved, not flattened
· Works on dark-themed sites
· 15 KB installed, zero runtime dependencies
· Keyboard shortcut: Cmd+Shift+S (Mac) / Ctrl+Shift+S (Windows)
REQUIREMENTS
Skimly uses Chrome's built-in Summarizer API, which requires a one-time model download (~1.5 GB). After that, everything runs locally with no network requests. Requires Chrome 138+ with the Summarizer API enabled in chrome://settings/ai.
