• (2025-03-03) Neale Upstone: There had been promising references to this and I decided to try it out. The .deb install is broken (and even after manually installing some dependencies, installs the whispering as "app", and fails to find the several microphones available. So I tried this extension and it is similar. Fails on microphone. So I tried the website version, and that detects and uses the microphone, but fails when talking to the docker whisper server. It really needs automated testing to check this stuff out before pushing a release. I guess you use a Mac Braden.
• (2025-02-17) Connor Drake: Doesn't appear to work anymore. It installs alright, but the microphone button doesn't work. It's completely unresponsive. When I got into the Options menu for the extension, I get the following settings error: {"_tag":"WhisperingError","variant":"error","title":"Whispering settings not found","description":"Local storage does not contain Whispering settings."} Love the idea, and hope the developer gets it working!

It works not just on the ChatGPT website, also on other websites, but not every single site works, but I don't think that's the problem of the extension. I do have a suggestion, which is maybe on the settings page where user inputs the API key, add some security features, maybe block the key or hide it. Because this is a client side application, I think people do want extra security in it. Thank you very much for creating this wonderful extension.
• (2024-11-05) Juergen Nehrlich: Awesome work, friend, thanks a lot !!! Worked well for me on macOS Sonoma on an M2 Macbook Air. Also the Chrome extension works well, though I had some problems here, but that probably had to do with me using not the latest browser version within my specific testing context. But even there, it finally worked to a very usable degree. I would appretiate an option for not saving all of the audio recordings from the past. Because for dictating, you'll usually never need them again, and they pile up concerning used hard drive space. Or maybe something like just keeping the last recording if you have to resend it to OpenAI, but when a new recording is done, delete all of the older ones. Thanks again and best wishes!

I have the Mac Whisper and I'm dying to have something like this to work, but this doesn't work at all by pressing the button and none of it. So if you could do a walkthrough, that would be great for the obtuse learners like me. I would really appreciate it. Thank you.
• (2024-08-15) Billy Rybka: I havent been able to get the extension itself to work. I've entered my API key and allowed it to access my mic. When I click the mic button nothing happens at all. Uninstalled and reinstalled both on edge and chrome with no luck. I used the desktop app and it works. But id love to use the extension.

• (2024-07-25) Ariel Gil: Causes a bug within Claude (on Edge), where you cant create project (screen goes white) and also cant edit previous chat messeges. Otherwise it does work great. Did not try messing with the settings, possibly a setting might fix it - right now I disabled the extension.
• (2024-07-01) Florijn de Graaf: Edit 26/06: since last update my keyboard activation doesnt work anymore! I cant get the app to start on any webpage, and tried every setting. Worked excellent until a few days ago when everytime I use a voice message to type it triggers the "prove you are not a bot" popup and I have to complete 6 captcha's for every single message. It's driving me crazy.

Also, I just hate using keyboards at all, why not just make a button or automatic activation??? I don't use extensions for long if they make me use any shortcuts because my mouse is all I love. It would be great if it were possible to show some indicator next to the cursor about the progress of the speech recognition, possibly even with live indication of the words as you speak and as they are processed. LillySpeech can do that, for example, using the Google Speech API. Of course, if the OpenAI API does not provide that function, it is probably not possible, but maybe at some stage in the future. It is even more awesome that you can dictate in multiple languages. Gerade so, wie es dir gefällt, sogar in ein- und derselben Äußerung des Diktats. Of course, this review was also dictated using your amazing desktop app 👍👍👍 It would also be great if the app could be sent to the Windows tray, and if the microphone icon of the app in the taskbar or in the tray would change its color in order to signalize whether the microphone is active and listening, or inactive. OpenAI's Whisper is an order of magnitude better than any other speech to text model and making it accessible in the browser and especially with the MacOS app is a gift - thanks for putting in the time to make this!

Then, I moved the cursor to external applications and pasted the text there. With the desktop version, this constant switching back and forth becomes entirely unnecessary and I can perform all actions with keyboard shortcuts in the external application. The desktop version is also compatible with Google Chrome, implying that I don't necessarily need the application within Google Chrome. Instead, I can work with the desktop application across all programs, including Google Chrome. Feature Request: It would be helpful to have a feature that signals when the transcription is complete. Currently, when dictating longer texts, there is a waiting period until Whisper AI finishes the transcription. During this time, I tend to leave the current input field on my browser and work on other tabs. However, this means that the transcription will not be inserted into the original tab where I dictated. By the time the transcription is complete, I am already on a different tab and have to constantly keep an eye on the extension icon. As soon as the extension icon stops spinning, I know that the transcription is complete. If there was a sound signal to indicate when the transcription is complete, it would eliminate the need to watch the icon and I could return to the original input field to insert the text. It worked only in English. After the update of the application, it now supports not only English but also other languages. Personally, I mostly use the application in my native language, German. Now, I can easily dictate in German and the text is transcribed accurately thanks to this application. Previously, I had been using OpenAI Playground, but I always had to copy the transcribed text from there to the respective input field of my browser, which caused some unnecessary manipulations. This application now fulfills my dream: the spoken text is transcribed directly into the cursor of the respective text field. Whether I'm in the WhatsApp input field, Gmail, or any other input field, I just need to activate this application, dictate, and after finishing the dictation, the transcribed text appears in perfect German without any spelling errors in the input field. I thank you very much for this great relief in my daily work as well as in my free time.
