It's unfortunate, but this extension no longer works. For those looking for an alternative, the NightEye extension (https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/night-eye-dark-mode-on-an/alncdjedloppbablonallfbkeiknmkdi?hl=en) works well to keep my Google Chat in Dark Mode, both in the Web App version as well as on chat.google.com.

It's unfortunate, but this extension no longer works. I'd give this extension a 4 or 5 star rating if it was updated, but as it stands now, it's unusable due to the room names being illegible until you click them, and the body of conversations not being dark. I'm sure it's because Google made a bunch of changes to the Chat UI a few months ago and the developer hasn't updated it since. Hopefully he or she comes back and makes the requisite changes or finds someone else who can...

Dark Mode is incomplete. It still leaves a large chuck of the page with a bright white background. It's tedious, nearing impossible, to set your own dark mode because the sections aren't clearly labeled. So you can't tell which section on the page belong to which label within the extension.

Doesn't work, and appears to have been abandoned by the developer. The dark mode it applies for chat is horribly broken, and the main chat field is still bright white

It doesn't work correctly anymore. Many colors don't properly update - namely, the background of the chat itself. Hopefully it'll get fixed, because as far as I've found it's the only one.

It used be be okay, but recently it's not working at all.

Doesn't work anymore. When/if it does work again there needs to be more presets. Takes at least 30 mins to get a cohesive theme going manually. Dark mode was nice though. Not sure why google doesn't have built in theme options but since they don't I hope this extension gets working again. Much respect to the devs here for making the extension in the first place but I can't leave a good review right now.

Piling on with the others - I like the idea for the plugin, and it was great until Google Chat made some updates a month ago or so, and now all the styling looks quite bad. Hopefully the developer will see this and make the requisite updates, and I'll revise my review.

Need to pop in another low review, not because this is an inherently bad extension, but because it looks like Google changed things and the extension hasn't updated to account for them. Confirming that as of 29 Jun 2021, it looks like the underlying CSS has changed again, and the extension is horribly broken. Agree w/ others that Dark Mode doesn't work. But if you go in and custom change the colors on the elements, you'll really see the problem. Effectively, you change "chat area background color", but what really changes is "sidebar area"; that isn't 100% correct, but that is the overall issue. So I suspect Google changed its classes and ID's in the background and the extension just needs to get updated. A real bummer, because everything was working just fine up to about 1-2 weeks ago, at least for me.

When I have a conversation or a room open and the background is blazingly white, that is the exact opposite dark mode. Either fix this or do us all a favor and remove yourself from the web store. Nobody needs this frustration right now.

Downloaded this last week and it worked like a charm. However, today my Google Chat is back to white background. I removed the addon then downloaded it again. Turned it to default, then back to Dark mode, still nothing. Help! My eyes!!

nearly there, the setup of custom themes is to complex for the lay person, its difficult to figure out what all the different items means without trial and error. so simplify the options and have what you currently have as advanced setup. also room and room names text in the list of rooms are same colour as background. think a recent update in chats broke the setup

The extension automatically goes to dark mode which is nice because then I don't have to use the web broswer extension I use and don't necessarily want on all sites all the time JUST to have it dark on my chats. It unfortunately does not provide other chat themes at the moment though, hoping that gets fixed. It also hides the text when you go to settings within the chat (I have to to do a CTRL+A situation over the entire page to get the text to show up). Will bump up rating when more themes become available again.
