enhanced-h264ify is a fork of well-known h264ify extension for Firefox/Chrome which blocks VP8/VP9 codecs on YouTube, so that you can use H264 only. This may be useful because there are lots of devices on the market which support H264 hardware decoding and do not support VP8/VP9.
This extension has new features such as manual blocking of H264, VP8, VP9, AV1 codecs and 60fps video. By default it blocks everything but H264 and 60fps video.
It works only on YouTube.

- After seeing a suggestion on Reddit to use this extension to fix Youtube issues, I found that after disabling Opus in the audio section, the weird crackling and crunchiness I was getting disappeared. Very helpful!

- I was having issues playing YouTube videos. The video and audio would stutter and it would be difficult to understand and watch. I right-clicked the video and selected "Stats for nerds" and saw it was using VP9 encoding. With this extension, I blocked VP8 and VP9 encoding. Now, YouTube videos are using AV1 encoding and play without issues. Definitely recommend.

- I have no idea what this extension does, but since I installed it on my Windows 10 PC to try to cut down on YouTube running my CPU usage up to 100%, the CPU usage of Chrome is 4th or 5th on the Task Manager meter. Right now I am running a video on YouTube and streaming a hockey game, and Chrome is using only 0.9% of the CPU. To me, this extension is the best thing since Windows 7 (RIP) and sliced bread.

- it removes higher than 720p but it can remove 60 fps i get nousious watching minecraft video's at 60 fps but 480 looks really bad now i can watch at 720 andf this is good for me

- I wish if there is something like that enable only and for AV1 instead... As it is a better format, I understand that some want to reduce CPU usage by taking advantage of the HW acceleration, yet they are wasting a lot of bandwidth and bargaining for a worse quality... We should go in the direction that AV1 become a DeFacto standard for web videos... or maybe VCC. I am sure developers will then put a lot more effort to make it work on almost all devices of 10 years ago by finding some new optimizations to implant here and there... Encoding already became 10x faster in the last couple of years.

- As an old intel Macbook user. I like it very much!! Playing YouTube video VP9 is accelerated by hardware.

- This is a versatile tool which gives control over what codecs will not be sent by YouTube. I use it to block sending AV1 codec. My graphics card is capable of decoding VP9 so that's the codec I get. But the icing of the cake for a person who cares about audio quality is the option to block YT from sending normalized audio streams. The sound of the not normalized streams is better; it has more details and sounds more open. I am so happy with this option.

- On Orange Pi 5 using Ubuntu 22.04 for Rockchip RK3588 devices by Joshua Riek, some video resolution / aspect ratio aren't supported by AV1 hardware, so video turn green. This help fix that for the time being. I don't know if that will ever be fixed.

- Great plugin, no issues. It would be nice though if we could choose to only enable VP9 and AV1 for videos that are 1440p or higher but block those codecs for 1080p and below.

- На любом кодеке грузит процессор на 100%. Это обычные видео на ютуб с разрешением 720р. При переключении на 264 процессор грузит до 70-80%, но видео начинает отставать от звука и перескакивает каждые 2-3 секунды, а то и 10 секунд. В общем звук есть, а видео за ним не успевает и прыгает. Не помогло это расширение.

- Не понимаю как некоторые пишут что не работает. У меня старенький ноутбук с одной только Intel HD Graphics 4000, которая не поддерживает ни VP-8, ни VP-9 ни тем более новый AV-1. Без этого расширения при просмотре YouTube нагрузка идёт только на CPU, и для 1080p60 может достигать до 60%. После установки расширения нагрузка на CPU не подымается выше 5%, а GPU уже нагружен на 20% в среднем. Так что расширение однозначно работает. Ещё по поводу отключения нормализации громкости, как оказалось полезно если аудиосистема не из дна. Увы пришлось всё же включать нормализацию когда родителям включаю фильмы на старом телевизоре через переходник HDMI > Тюльпаны. Без нормализации на старом телевизоре звук то еле слышно то орёт как бог знает что при одинаковой настройке громкости.

- По сути оно должно форсировать кодек, который менее затратный для компьютера. Но при включении нагрузка на CPU достигает 100%, а нагрузка на CPU не меняется. Ощущение, будто засунули майнер. Если нужна будет какая-то дополнительная информация, то напишу. P.S Использовал на Edge
