Mar 2023 - Stopped working so one star only. plus I didnt like what I read about it's privacy practices. - the user activity monitoring includes keystroke logging! yikes! Will look for another email app/site. May 2023 - Developer provided an explanation for the privacy practices. Works after re-installing. Back to 5 Stars! 🙂

For those that read this, in gmail the thumbnail gets a new tiny play button...don't just click on the icon - that'll bring up the normal gmail download this file prompt...look on the attachment email for the play > triangle. Worked great for me, viewing security alerts for a camera/alarm system. Using Win 10 and Chrome.

• (2020-10-09) Peter Underwood: It may be great for video, but audio is another matter. Like all other Chrome extensions that claim to play WAV files, it fails to play attached wav voicemails. Tracked the problem to the fact that these use a codec not installed in Chrome. So still having to download the attached file which then plays with native codecs/apps in Windows 10. Sad.

• (2020-07-03) Justin Maghen: Great concept and idea, but it doesn't work for me either. I receive mp4 files in gmail and when I open the email and click the play button, a window does open up and thinks like it is loading for about 3-5 seconds and then does nothing. Says video is 0 seconds and just a black screen. I know it is not the video since when I load it on gmail on the phone, it play the same video without an issue. By the way, I have tried more than 1 MP4 videos and none of them work. Hope you can get this fixed :/

• (2019-01-14) Don Cullen: Works good! Missing feature in gmail was the ability to immediately play video attachments without having to download, open the file, then hit play. This plugin eliminated two steps, still have to hit play as soon as it opens within gmail. But hey, still a good plugin!

  For a while now, probably months, it's like the bad old days before Gmail Mod. 1. Click on the attachment's "Play video" button: Nothing happens. The button changes appearance to show the pointer is on it, but the button doesn't do anything. 2. Click on the attachment pane but not on an action button (Download, Add to Drive, Play video): The preview window opens overlays the GMail window with an error pop-up: "Couldn't preview file There was a problem playing this video." Both the embedded video and audio player options are enabled. I haven't used Chrome itself in a while, so I don't know what happens in Chrome. Brave is another Chromium-based browser but without its own extensions store (like Edge). I haven't had problems with other Chrome Extensions Store add-ons in Brave. FWIW, my Windows 10 system and the Brave app are up-to-date. Version 1.31.87 Chromium: 95.0.4638.54 (Official Build) (64-bit) If you can find time to take a look, I'd appreciate it. Thanks for a great extension, which I enjoyed using until it stopped working.   The audio file is a .WAV file from a VOIP voicemail service. Clicking the PLAY button opens a new window but the player controls are grayed out, can't be played.

  I noticed since I installed Gmail Mod that Gmail has slowed down to a snail's pace. When composing emails there is a 30+ sec. delay in text actually showing. Clicking on anything is also delayed. I disabled the Gmail Mod app, and now Gmail is working normally again. Are you aware of this issue? I'd like to be able to use the Mod app as it allows me to watch attached videos.

  I downloaded the 'play video' loader which allowed me to view my MP4 clips. In the last two days. (Since 27-3-2019) the View arrow has got smaller and the clip will not now play and I have to download. HAS GOOGLE DONE SOMETHING to the attachment to stop me from viewing the clip.

  This works great in a gmail session in full chrome browser, but doesn't show up in the desktop gmail app. It might be a completely different architecture, but they do offer add-ons for the desktop app so there might be a way to do it. I became aware of the issue due to a client that uses the desktop gmail app and am still looking for a smooth workaround for him. Thanks for picking up Google's slack!

  Currently, if I click play in the attachment, it opens the video, but video doesn't play upon loading. Would be good if it auto plays upon loading. Awesome plugin, glad you developed it, helps to fill in the void since fixing this issue isn't one of Google's priorities for the time being. Thanks much for doing this!
