Manage your Polkadot accounts outside of dapps. Injects the accounts and allows signing transactions for a specific account.
Manage your Polkadot accounts outside of applications built on Substrate (https://github.com/paritytech/substrate), Polkadot (https://polkadot.network/ and Kusama (https://kusama.network/). This extension injects the accounts and allows signing of messages and transactions for a specific account, without making the account secrets available to the calling app.
This allows you to manage your accounts, without storing it is the browser site-specific localStorage, for use on applications such as https://polkadot.js.org/apps/. It does not allow for full wallet capability, but rather is laser focussed on only managing your accounts and providing signing capabilities to applications requesting access. As such, its prime purpose is managing the accounts and injecting them as per the standard extension interfaces, as described in https://github.com/polkadot-js/extension#api-interface.
It allows you to -
- Add accounts, storing the account secrets in your extension storage
- Allow application access to the signing capabilities of these accounts (you can accept/reject requests)
- Allows you to sign transactions for Substrate, Polkadot and Kusama networks
- In all of this no secretes leave the extension, only the signature is ever provided
The source for this extension is fully available, with the latest versions always matching up with the source repo at https://github.com/polkadot-js/extension

- (2021-11-02) Oliver Berner: It failed initial eco-system testing round - Example:- It prohibited sending 1.2 dot despite that parts of the transaction was approved. It still denied it. But claimed transaction fees three times on three different attempts, changing to allow use on any relay change vis a vis Polkadot Relay specifically doesn't impact results and despite not completing any transaction. - The Polkadot wallet it was suppose to be sent to is valid, active and copied directly from the exchange - the Polkadot wallet recognised the address as a wallet so who knows what its issue is - the error code - isn't explanatory but is instead a command lingo without reference for an outside party to understand without having greater knowledge of their "error code manuals", there was no indicator to suggest anything was wrong before proceeding with the transaction, they always talk about how rigid, inflexible, expensive, slow, centralized and insecure the banking system is but looking into the mirror with constructive critical eyes doesn't seem to be one of their virtues, as developers often claim 10-20% of an entire currency supply and tried to obfuscate and present the tokenomics as decentralised, the world asset distribution is also decentralized with that mindset despite that a few 100 people hold the same worth/assets value as 4.5 billion people. Then we come to statements about banks having high fees but they have high fees here too - - -> +/- 10-15% of the value gone in three transaction attempts. OUH WHAT A REVOLTIONARY NETWORK, THAT BRIDGES THE GAP OF INEQUALITY AND INCREASE ACCESS/ACCESSIBILITY FOR ALL PEOPLE... Polkadot is still credited for having low fees. Buying 1000 Euros worth of Dot, eliminates over 50 euros meaning 5 % of the entire value is lost just converting the fiat to the crypto. But also as most visible actors in the crypto space more or less just pat themselves on the shoulder saying how good they are. Now they've taken almost 0.15+ Dot out of a 1.2 Dot total. While not performing any transaction. They basically stole +/- 10-15% of the Dot amount that was supposed to be transferred and didn't do anything meaning more transactions have to be attempted upon which they will skim an amount leaving below 1 Dot amount needed for minimum transaction. Thus locking it in their eco system unless more dot is sent to be able to extract and send it while skimming fees both to fill up the account balance to reach above the 1 Dot threshold to be able to make a transaction and send it away again. After what is hypothesized to be after 5 earlier transaction attempts. As it seems likely they will do the same thing if more attempts are attempted. If seeing APY/APR on staking it will take roughly 1 year to grow the capital organically if following transaction sets it below the 1 Dot threshold. Unless new capital is injected to be able to withdraw from the account. I had read earlier about that an account balance of minimum 1 Dot is needed for the account to be considered active and listed otherwise it exist in some kind of ghost mode, as the account does not hold balance when an account is created. But if they prohibit withdrawals that doesn't leave 1 dot in the account at any and all times when balance has been added at any part of the account lifetime. Then sure one could perhaps stake. But if 1 million users experience this issue and kept just 1 dot they are unable to withdraw, then the Polkadot developers sort of indirectly have hijacked, confiscated and locked 50 + million dollars against the will of the token holders. If Polkadot:s decentralized blockchain and eco-system managed to go mainstream and attract 1 billion users to use/adopt extensions and the "certified" official wallet application for the Polkadot blockchain infrastructure/system instead of using centralized exchanges then they seemingly would have locked $50+ billion at current prices, that token holders were prohibited from withdrawing/selling, if they experienced the same issue. Seems pretty fishy and serious when applied at scale.
