Description from extension meta

Filter matches from your AncestryDNA results.

Image from store AncestryDNA Match Filter
Description from store This browser extension allows you to temporarily filter out any DNA match, and their shared matches from your Ancestry DNA results. I intended this plugin for genetic genealogy use cases, including: • Isolating DNA matches to a relative you haven’t tested. • Hiding DNA matches who have a specific shared match. This extension requires your DNA matches to be presented in the default format – sorted by relationship, with no searches, groups, etc. applied. If the current layout does not meet those parameters, the filter checkboxes will not appear. The easiest thing to do – go to your DNA results summary, and click "View All DNA Matches." This extension does not divulge any information to third parties.

  • (2021-07-17) James Houston: This is an absolutely wonderful extension that helped me solve the mystery of who my paternal grandfather was. Very helpful and easy to use.
  • (2021-04-03) Tracy Drane: This was great but it doesn't work anymore after the recent updates at Ancestry. I hope the functionality can be fixed.
  • (2020-02-09) Julia Vollmers: amazeballs.
  • (2020-01-09) J W: It's great as I am trying to narrow down a branch of my paternal line. Only complaint is I would like to see an undue or go back button. Frustrating to get rid of 3 thousand people and then click one who gets rid of the one you are focusing on and have to start all over.
  • (2019-12-13) Donna Jones: This has been extremely helpful for me. I can now filter out matches and concentrate on the lines I am working on. I think it is really terrific and works well.
  • (2019-12-10) Karla York: I think this might work fairly well for people with only a few thousand matches, but not more than that. I have many, many matches I have already identified as belonging to certain lines, but even when I filter out those people, there are still many others who also belong to those same lines who have not yet been filtered out. This means that no matter how many people on lines A, B, and C I filter out, that still does not indicate that all left are from line D, especially as I go further back, filtering out people with few matches. Then there is the problem with cross-over matches. Even though my grandparents are not related to each other, unless several centuries back, some relatives of one grandparent married relatives of other grandparents, which means that I have matches who match some of my more distant cousins through grandparent A AND grandparent C, for example. I think an including filter could be more helpful than an excluding filter for those with many matches.
  • (2019-11-30) Stacey Mitchell: The extension does what it says it will. It filters out matches not in common. Beyond any second cousin a match might not be in common. I can see it being useful to run from time to time to make sure matches you have marked in common are correct. I used a profile I manage, filtered out the mother which removed all mother's side matches. I then used a 1/2 uncle to remove those in common and was left with few matches from that branch along with the paternal grandmother's branch. I filtered out a 1/2 first cousin to the maternal grandmother and was left with some interesting matches not in common with he closest family members and one only in common with the mother's side but not the mother. I like figuring out how in common matches are actually related a different way so I found a match of interest I hadn't tried to figure out yet. Great app, just be aware of the limitations of in common and not in common.
  • (2019-11-04) Stu White: After a short initial trial, this makes searching for relatives much easier. I know my maternal side and by filtering them out I am left with those that are my unknown paternal relatives.
  • (2019-10-31) Julie G: Very useful! For me this is very handy for filtering out matches that overwhelm my DNA match list so I can focus on other lines.

  • (2023-05-24, v:0.36) Johanna på Hitta pappa: Does not work with the new parent 1, parent 2, both sides and unassigned match lists
It works on the complete match list (https://www.ancestry.se/discoveryui-matches/list/*) but not on these: https://www.ancestry.se/discoveryui-matches/list/*/parent1=true https://www.ancestry.se/discoveryui-matches/list/*/parent2=true https://www.ancestry.se/discoveryui-matches/list/*/bothsides=true https://www.ancestry.se/discoveryui-matches/list/*/unassigned=true Also, when you're on for example https://www.ancestry.se/discoveryui-matches/list/*/parent1=true and go to the complete list of matches by changing to "All matches" in the Groups dropdown (instead of clicking around the site to refresh the list page completely), then it doesn't work on the complete matches list either. The trigger for the buttons to appear needs to change for that to work, I guess.

Consider disabling the display of matches from the bottom (20cM), upward. This will avoid user-erroneous click-ahead, when the clicked item goes away, and the user knows the next one should also go away, but does not know if the next one matches the clicked one or not. Also, consider last-undio, or repeated-undo. Nice. Thanks.

are you still supporting this extension. It's not working

  • (2021-02-06, v:0.32) Geoff Tideswell: AncestryDNA Match Filter
I have installed the extension but I do not see the filter buttons, in fact the Ancestry DNA Matches webpage does not look different than it did before I installed the extension. I have a default list - no groups or filters applied. What am I missing?

Hello, I'd first, like to thank you for creating such an awesome tool! I'm having a bit of an issue, viewing the filter.. Because I had already separated my matches into several groups, which consists of like 300 people by this point (who have been color coded). It doesn't look like there is any way to temporarily deactivate the groups feature, and I don't really want to loose all that info, by erasing them all..if I don't have to. Is there any way around this? I'm not really all that familiar with the site, and don't know all the "in's and out's" of it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! If need be, I'll wipe the slate clean, and start over again.. Because I am pretty much at a dead end anyway. lol Thanks! -Todd

Just added AncestryDNA match Data Downloader. My objective is to compare my thousands of matches to a cousin's thousands of matches. We have granted access to our DNA matches to one another, so I can see all his matches as well as mine. We want to find all the matches we have in common. We can not do that in Ancestry itself because it does not list all matches we may have in common, it stops searching at a certain point. Now that I have added this downloader program in Chrome, what do I do? After about a dozen attempts getting an error message, I now can see my name and my cousin's in the downdloader and it displays 988 matches for me and 400 for him. What happens next? When I press Scan I get: 'There was an error communicating with Ancestry Server try your scan again'

  • (2019-11-30, v:0.21) WendyJ Littrell: Using Filter
I downloaded the chrome extension; went to DNA Matches and did not filter or group or anything, clicked on chrome extension and I just get directed back to the information for it. Not sure how it is supposed to work or what I'm supposed to see. Thanks!
