Description from extension meta

This extension mutes all Chrome tabs by default. Great tool against autoplayed videos and ads!

Image from store Shut Up Already!
Description from store This extensions mutes all Chrome tabs by default allowing you to make tab audible on-demand. I've created it because I got furious at various news sites that autoplay videos in background, often somewhere along the text or in the sidebar. **This extension has zero analytics, tracking or any other data gathering and it will stay this way forever.** WHAT'S NEW 2.0.1: Update privacy practices 2.0: Removed popup, added options page and context menu instead. Clicking on mute icon will now toggle mute status. 1.2: Added popup with multiple options and settings 1.0: Initial release

  • (2021-10-14) Егор Кларк: Great extension. Mutes the whole domain instead of muting the current tab like on Edge. Works perfectly.

  • (2020-10-08) maven: Thank you! wonderful extension.
  • (2019-11-20) Alexandre Palma: Exceptional. But I would also like to see also a list of the tabs that have sound (muted or unmuted).
  • (2018-11-06) RedSnt: Finally an extension that remembers the mute/unmute state of each tab properly making it work correctly in Vivaldi! For some reason, every other mute extension re-mutes tabs when volume goes below a certain threshold or one clicks away from active unmuted tab. I bet this has to do with Vivaldi's handling of its mute system which is only really available for a tab until it detects audio in it (meaning you can't rightclick a tab and mute it until audio is detected). EDIT: The "Keep muted state of the opening tab" feature doesn't seem to work as intended in Vivaldi, but it's a feature I can go without as long as the rest works - which it does. EDIT2: Whoops. The feature only work on domains outside the scope of the white- and blacklist. Would be nice if it worked regardless of this.

So I have http*://*twitch.tv/* whitelisted, but want to blacklist http*://*twitch.tv/directory/following/*, yet it doesn't seem to work as intended. I could probably solve it using regex but not sure if this extension supports it? Or how should I go about whitelisting a domain with a few exceptions?
  • (2021-07-12, v:2.0) ghknutson: Great extension except for ONE thing...
Why can't I have a button for this WONDERFUL extension in my menubar on my Mac? I have 25 other things that appear there, only FIVE of which are more important than yours! I never restart my computer, but on occasions when I get the dreaded SBOD (spinning beachball of death), and it's constipated no matter what I close down, the babble of autoplaying tabs on restart drives me crazy. I WOULD PAY YOU MONEY if you'd let us automatically have your clickable extension in the menubar! Gary Knutson, 612 226-7001
  • (2020-08-06, v:2.0) Tom C: Blacklist overrides Whitelist - option to reverse this behavior?
The blacklist overrides the whitelist. This makes for situations like this: 1. Blacklist is set up to block all sites using an asterisk ('*') 2. Youtube.com is added to the whitelist 3. Youtube is still muted. This occurs before and after the browser is restarted
  • (2018-11-18, v:2.0) Penny Starr: Other extensions
Is there a known issue with other extension causing this one to loose previously set options? Even with items on the Black List, opening my browser initially disables Shut Up Already. This is the easiest and best extension for this purpose, but would be wonderful if it worked all the time. It IS easy to correct each time, but would be nice to work on its own. I will continue to use this extension whatever the answer is, because even with this issue, it is STILL the best extension of its kind. Thanks!
