Disable arbitrary keyboard shortcuts
Image from store
Description from store
Lets you set browser keyboard shortcuts containing Ctrl and Alt keys (Ctrl+S, Ctrl+P, Ctrl+Shift+C, etc.) to do nothing. Just head on over to chrome://extensions/shortcuts and assign away! Small, simple, and requires no permissions.

- Ctrl+W is now disabled for me. I've been playing games and ctrl w is like a slide forward or a crouch while moving forward (w). This is a serious problem for many people, (ctrl+w exiting tabs mid-game). And now I am able to disable it. Thank you!
- Aaron Brown
- I had hoped it would allow me to disable F1 going to the help page ( I hit it too much while typing) but it only works for CTRL or ALT stuff.

- dosent work

- Straight to the point, works as advertised. Disable ⌘-D "Add Bookmark" bc it's so close to actually used and useful shortcut ⌘-F "Find in page". Thank you for this extension!
- Sven van Bommel
- Very easy to use, works very well for me. I used this to set macros for my mouse because whenever i told it to open a new tab, well, it opened a new tab. 10/10 should just be a feature in Chrome itself

- Im trying to disable Ctrl W to close a tab but it closes the config tab when trying to configure it to disable Ctrl W. Need to allow manual typing of the command or something to bypass it.

- INSTRUCTIONS. you must open a browser tab and type chrome://extensions/shortcuts then press enter. Here you set the shortcuts that you want OFF. for example, click the edit pen then press on your physical keyboard CTRL + R. this will set OFF this setting for Chrome. PROBLEM PLEASE FIX: cannot set CTRL + T because it opens a tab right away and doesn't change the case. If I type by hand CTRL + T then I cannot set it for Chrome in the second case because the second case is set only automatically.

- simple. elegant. functional. should come by default. 5/5

- Stopped CTRL-W closing tab issue, thank god
- Kate McKenzie
- Does the job. Just don't overlook the unintuitive fact that it needs to be configured in Chrome Extension Shortcuts, rather than the extension itself.
- Trent Isaacson
- Can't set a Ctrl + Alt shortcut, which was the only purpose I had for it. :(
- Joey Garner
- Doesn't work, or is so unintuitive it can't be reasonably figured out. I installed the plugin > restarted my browser (just incase) > clicked on the plugin in the panel section of my nav bar > no options open up this tool. The tool is greyed out (not active state) for no apparent reason.

- Tried to use this extension to disable tab-switching via option-command + arrow keys left/right, but this did not work at all (while other deactivations like command-p worked). 🤷♂️
- Anas KASMI

- Wang Andi
- tried disabling ctrl + n and it just open a new tab.
- Charlie Nguyen
- You guys need to go to the Chrome Extensions Shortcuts to ADD the Keyboard shortcuts you want to disable. It works!
- David Kauffman
- Works perfectly disabling ctrl+d for bookmarks - something I assure nobody in the history of chrome usage has wanted macro'd to a key so close to C and F.
- Space Doge
- Doesn't work with num lock, so if i press ctrl numpad1 it still goes to the first tab. Please add more keys.
- Micamaster100
- tried disabling ctrl + w and it just closed the shortcuts tab.
- Alex King
- Does not work as of december 2024
- John Rhee
- Disabling Ctrl-K, for instance, not only disables Edge's unwelcome "jump to URL" function (Alt-D already does this), but it also disables the shortcut for ANY webpage (e.g., shortcut for adding hyperlink in Confluence and other webpages/docs).

- It's simple stupid and it works! Suggestion: make the "how to configure" instructions more noticeable, as I believe many users won't read the extension description :P
- Krstia no
- i couldnt play AI minecraft cuz i kept press CTRL and W to run and it closed the window each time i looked so stupid and my friends laughed at me on discord lmao but now this solved my problem thank u dev
- Swivelgames
- No more hitting Alt+Left/Alt+Right and ruining whatever I've typed just because I switched platforms and wanted to jump a word, not go to the previous page. THANK YOU.
- Paul Irish
- Simple and works. Viewed the source and it's as minimal as possible.
- John Giles (fLex0)
- Bad. Can't unbind F11 or F12. Only CTRL / SHIFT shortcuts can be removed.
- Froot Ponchi
- Thank you, solves my issue of it constantly trying to create bookmarks when I accidentally hit ctrl D instead of ctrl F
- Corey Barber
- Wonderful and useful! At my job I have to scan barcodes and sometimes the computer will think I'm doing a "Ctrl + J" input and open up the download history. Very annoying. Thanks to this, it's no longer an issue!

- Working 2024, you do have to go into the extension and set what shortcuts you want ignored. I finally got rid of ctrl-d
- aya h
- not working. the shortcuts are working.
- Hamid Ouahssoune
- add a way to Pause the extension (turn off/on)
- Nick Bailey
- Exactly what I was looking for to get rid of the stupid back and forward shortcut keys (which screw you over when typing an email in Gmail for example). Can't get it to disable the useless Ctrl+Tab shortcut as that immediately switches to the next tab.

- I'm using alt+num7 quite often for the bullet sign. Instead Chrome moves me to some stupid inner page, in case Num is not activated. I guess there are a lot of such issues. This extension helps to avoid such problem.
- konstabark
- The only problem is that it can only catch Ctrl/Alt + "letter" type of shortcuts (e.g. not Ctrl + Tab). Aside from that it is works perfectly good!
- Zaw Min Thein
- Works great. 2024
- Vitor Mourão
- Works very easy, but you should place a button or menu link in the extension to the page: chrome://extensions/shortcuts
- Marco Lackovic
- To use it click on the "Extensions" icon, then "Manage extensions", from the left menu select "Keyboard shortcuts", in the "Disable keyboard shortcuts" panel click on an "Edit" icon to add a shortcut you want to disable.

- I don‘t how to open it but it work before
- P Roper
- I installed this to disable Gmail's stupid ctrl-Enter (send email) shortcut, that is ALWAYS on even if I disable Gmail's useless shortcuts. But it is not possible to enter "ctrl-enter" in the shortcuts field of this extension's settings. So I'm uninstalling it.

- nice!
