Archive webpage with Archive Today
Adds a button to the Chrome toolbar. When clicked, it sends the URL of the current tab to Archive Today to preserve a snapshot of the page, and opens the result in a new tab.
NEW: Direct action Shortcuts (with optional Tabs permission)
NEW: Customizable Toolbar Button
Choose your preferred action for the toolbar icon:
• Dropdown Menu: Quick access to Search, Archive, and Options.
• Direct Search: Instantly search the current page URL.
• Direct Archive: Instantly archive the current page.
Features:
• Archive Today Integration: Sends the current tab URL to Archive Today to preserve a snapshot and opens the result in a new tab.
• Context Menus: Includes Link context menu to Archive or Search, and a Page context menu to Search.
• Customizable Behavior: Options to control if the new tab opens adjacent to the current tab, at the end of the tab strip, or replaces the current tab (archive only).
• Tab Activation: Control whether new Archive or Search tabs are activated immediately.
• HTTPS Security: Uses HTTPS for all archival and search transmissions.
• Keyboard Shortcuts: A custom shortcut can be created to archive the current page instantly.
(Archive Today is a time capsule for web pages. It takes a 'snapshot' of a webpage that will always be online even if the original page disappears. It saves a text and a graphical copy of the page for better accuracy and provides a short and reliable link to an unalterable record of the web page.)
Consent:
By using this extension, you consent to sharing your Archive or Search URL with Archive Today when initiated by you. This extension does not otherwise collect or share any user data.
Notes:
1. If you get an error, try again later. It's NOT an extension issue—Archive Today sometimes gets overwhelmed.
2. CloudFlare DNS may not resolve Archive Today; if you experience DNS errors, try a different DNS server (e.g., Quad9).
3. For similar functionality on Android, check out Share2Archive in the Play Store.

- Does what it has to do: very quick acces to archive today.
- Stephen Google
- This used to be a good extension but is now broken. I just see the checkbox to confirm "I'm not a robot" but it just keeps reappering. This is poor poor software design and needs fixing.
- Joe GF
- Reading your documentation, I understand why this permission is required: "Read and change all your data on all web sites" Is there anything you can share that will reassure us users that only necessary data is being shared, and your addon is not doing bad things? Amazing extension and sincerely appreciate it. Edit: I checked out your code on github - thanks for open sourcing it! Looks great. Thanks for the response.

- Was good but broken as of past couple of months. Not related to Google's changes, just cannot get past Grant Access screen on Android with Kiwi Browser, even when access has been granted in settings. Click the button does nothing.
- Sylvain Dubrofsky
- Used to be perfect. Now it keeps reverting to a menu when I click vs what I want which is just archiving with a left click. Fixing this by changing the options to fix is annoying. I never want search, just archive with left click
- Andreas Zollmann
- Had been working perfectly for a long time, now it suddenly triggers Chrome to ask permission for it to read and edit ALL data on ALL websites! Very suspicious!
- Fabian Hendriks
- Works fine, but make the update page an optional thing. It's pretty annoying to have an extra tab opened and switched to when the addon is updated while you're reading something on a page
- Dan Helton
- Before the most recent update, the Search function would ignore URL parameters (such as the tracking parameters from social media, email newsletters, etc.) and take you straight to the most recent archived version of the page. Now, I have to remove them manually or else it won't find anything and will return "no results". Is there any way to return it to that former behavior?

- The plugin has completely stopped working. I typically access it from the pinned icon in my toolbar, but that completely stopped working a week ago as well. I've read the information John Navas (Developer) gave to others over the past couple days and those instructions are as clear as mud. I use the pin-to-toolbar option exclusively and it doesn't work. I have no idea how to "rant Access to the current page" once I've opened the browser extension. Like I said...clear as mud. I used to be able to click the ArchivePH button on my toolbar and it would automatically open the page and start searching for the archived article. I changed the Options for Archive Page setting to "search only" as one person did in a recent review, and that just ads another step to trying to read the article. Hopefully, the developer will update the plug to function properly in light of Google's ridiculous "Chromium privacy & security enhancements", which are a joke. (That's a dig at Google, not the plugin developer.)

- Yesterday it worked, today it does not. FYI I have not changed anything in the settings, app, etc. This has happened before, but it seems to fix itself on it's own. Have no idea why EDIT: John, thank you for that link. I have chrome, and switching to archive (only) selection fixed it.

- Fantastic extension (thankyou) but it's no longer working in Chrome, for some reason.
- Aj R
- Would be great if the "Search" option could return to the right-click menu.
- Shuan
- Works like a charm! I use it's android app as well. A hidden gem that helps you read reliable content in the age of misinformation. The user interface is not very too user-friendly, but it gets the job done.
- David Taylor
- This rocks!
- Lukas
- Works like a charm!
- Gustavo Sanfront
- Just Spetacular! The best!
- Daniel
- It no longer functions. The app's owner must update the link to https://archive.is/ I keep getting redirected to a page saying: "Welcome to nginx! If you see this page, the nginx web server is successfully installed and working. Further configuration is required. For online documentation and support please refer to nginx.org. Commercial support is available at nginx.com. Thank you for using nginx." Edit: Provide an option for users to edit the link since it appears to change periodically, avoiding the need to wait for an app update each time.
- Menna Mohsin
- Can you please make it so we can find snapshots of different days and years for the links? I want to read the story before it got removed again.
- Spicy Tofu
- I love you, thank you so much for making this. It's the best
- Filthy Papist
- Works great. Did not have to clear cookies as the previous reviewer stated.
- Lewtwo
- EDIT: After the response I got, I cleared my cookies and it works! Used to work perfectly, but currently takes me to the following page: Welcome to nginx! If you see this page, the nginx web server is successfully installed and working. Further configuration is required. For online documentation and support please refer to nginx.org. Commercial support is available at nginx.com. Thank you for using nginx. I'm assuming this is because the extension queries archive.ph and that site is having its own issues— how can I make the extension use archive.today or archive.is?
- Peter Oakcroft
- Very useful for keeping a record of what fantasists post on [share discussion] bulletin boards - the posts get deleted and it is useful to be able to bring back the past. Well worth the price [FREE!!!]
- Patrick G.
- Has been very useful when I'm investigating for my case, safekeeping evidence, however there has been several glitches lately, as in some images do not save, and there has been failures to keep the layout intacts; I do make dozens upon hundreds of Archives, so it's likely I'm increasing the odds, but it's worth noting. Also, by Mid-October this year, there has been an Update or something that makes the tool unusable, Archive.today or Archive.ph is not working as of yet, but the alternative is Archive.is . I wish for us to move on from the change.
- K J
- Why are you prompting wierd permisions settings at random times? This makes no sense from a UX pov. And feels like this extension is getting hacked. Also chrome just takes over the computer when it happens. Interupting anything your doing, a web call, presentation or work. stop this now!

- "2. CloudFlare DNS may not resolve archive.today, so if you experience DNS errors, try a different DNS service." when 99.9% works and this extension fails i think the problem is there a waste of time, much better solutions out there forgot to remove it, bumped 2-3 times when got updated, now is time to remove it for good, farewell

- John, can you explain why you need a Display notification permission for options? Most other extensions just load options from a the extension's context menu.
- Edwin Astacio
- Does as the tin says. The extension's info page on the browser still reads the "Read your browsing history," but the dev probably forgot to edit it, since the 0.8.4 Update removed that access. All in all great, useful extension.
- BB
- First of all, I love this extension. But 'Read your browsing history' is indisputable. You say "will be removed in 0.8.4", we are currently at 0.8.1. Why waiting? Why did you request this permission?
- David White
- It was a great extension, but why does it now need permissions to "read your browsing history" and "display notifications"? I can't enable it when it requires these permissions.
- Law B
- Great work, John. I love this extension. Thank you so much! 😊🧡
- robin jacob roy
- Is there any workaround to change the default archive.today backend website to some other proxy(like archive.fo)? Thank You.
- Marissa Olanick
- Very reliable, I recommend it to everyone.
- George Michaelson
- Does exactly what it says on the label. Good responsive dev, who hit me with a cluestick about runtime config very kindly. From time to time cloudflare has a fit over the archive.<thing> but that's not John's fault and he even points to the risk on the options/settings pane. 10/10 would use again. In fact, I just did.
- Philippa Willitts
- Was great, but now when I click it it takes me to a page that says "Welcome to nginx! If you see this page, the nginx web server is successfully installed and working. Further configuration is required. For online documentation and support please refer to nginx.org. Commercial support is available at nginx.com. Thank you for using nginx."
- Salman Ravoof
- Works good, but the search fails if the URL has many attributes attached to its end. If there's a way it could select the base URL automatically before performing the search, that'd be amazing. Still, I like the functionality it offers. Thanks. Update 14/08/2024 - Still the same. I hope the author reads this review and provides an update to enable this feature.

- Fantastic extension for bypassing deceptive and unnecessary article paywalls. Would love to donate at some point to keep the extension going, thank you so much for what you're doing
- a random dude
- this extension is unreal dawg! It bypassed almost everything. The paywall destroyer!
- James Tuttle
- This extension is AMAZING- It really helps me to stay educated about events around the globe. I've been using it for several months now, with no issues so far. Thanks sooo much for this John!!!!
- Benny Bottema
- I've used this a lot in the past and it worked perfectly.
- Sarah Miller
- Please note that this extension archives elements that the authors will refuse to delete, so be careful about what you archive. They violate copyright laws and collect personal data using a tracking pixel once the browser is opened. They do not respect DMCA laws or individual rights. In addition, this archive site also indexes the Dark Web, there are thousands of child pornography content and also narcotics store directories. Stay away from this, as there is currently an FBI investigation. EDIT: John NAVAS is lying. He is the programmer of archive.today. The extension and the linked site are managed by the same people.

- For the past several days it has been giving the "nginx is downloaded" message on multiple browsers and multiple networks, admittedly on one laptop. It has not gone away as I have expected, except for very brief moments when it worked, slowly (sometimes using alternate domains seemed to help but usually it does not).
- Juanjuan Zhang
- It's amazing,thanks a lot!
