  • (2023-08-11) Olga U: edit: excitement was short lived. Extension stopped working - everything I try to open is "not a valid gif file." I LOVE this extension! I'm an artist, and when I need to draw from an animated gif, I can just use this extention to pause/select the frames I need. (Instead of downloading & opening Photoshop and dealing with the layers menu.) Thank you *so much* for making this! A genuine Technology Good. (I was even able to download a .gifv file, which chrome insisted on converting to webp.)
  • (2023-05-26) Joe Nash: Worked for me. Right click on a gif, select "GIF Scrubber" from the menu, and it opens.
  • (2023-04-21) Michele Pagnin: The player does not appear, not control buttons are show
  • (2023-04-02) Edward Ruggeri: Does not work. Didn't do anything.
  • (2023-01-10) ole tja: Doesn't work for me. E.g. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/7/72/2022_Russian_Invasion_of_Ukraine_animated.gif
  • (2023-01-06) John Tyler: Does exactly what it says, super helpful!
  • (2022-08-15) John Doe: Excellent.
  • (2022-08-03) Mik: Doesn't work for https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skip_list#/media/File:Skip_list_add_element-en.gif
  • (2022-07-24) J Bruce Feynman Niccolo P. “Nic” Bentulan: (2022Jul) Wait now it's not working?!?! (2021Aug) Been taking this for granted for about 2 years!
  • (2022-06-15) Václav Brožík: Very useful extension which works as described. Thank you! There is just one important problem: Larger gifs are always animated scaled-down to about half of my screen size with a lot of empty space around the image! When viewing animated GUI actions it is very hard or impossible to see the details. I am using standard full-HD resolution, Windows 10, Chrome 102
  • (2022-04-05) Zedroid: Please add support for kiwi browser
  • (2022-03-10) 182 vs 13: very useful~~~~thanks very much~
  • (2022-02-25) Dang Tran: Being able to jump to any frame and play from there already put this extension in a league of its own. Features include playing x8 faster/slower, frame skipping, downloading and exploding gift into frames (haven't tried this one yet). Would be a 5* if not for the "must open a new tab for the player" and the unresizable player that is always larger than my whole screen while the gif inside is tiny in comparision.
  • (2022-02-15) Morden Lee: nice!
  • (2021-12-08) joel broström: As a iOS developer almost all setup is done via the GUI instead of coding it directly, which means most tutorials are filled with gifs showing how to do things. They can often be 1+ min and if you blink and miss something you would normally have to wait another minute until it looped around. This makes it so much easier!
  • (2021-11-12) GeowazM: Easy to use and very useful too!
  • (2021-07-29) Vadrif Draco: Working as of the time of this review on the latest Brave (chrome variant) version, may be a little finicky and hard to use at first but it does work and works great.
  • (2021-06-15) Ethan Brentson: I would give this full stars, however upon writing this review. This extension no longer works properly. When you right click a GIF, the window that pops up is only showing "download" & "render" which do nothing. RIP to a marvelous add-on
  • (2021-05-15) Jack Hu: Works great in the latest version of Chrome and Chromium variants (I'm using Vivaldi)... I think the confusion is about how it works... The extension doesn't alter the GIF's in situ (that is to say, on the page you're viewing them), instead, right-click anywhere over the GIF, and select "GIF Scrubber" from the context menu. A new window will popup with just the GIF, and a load of controls and a timeline scrubber. There are also a few options that can be changed by either clicking "Options" at the top of the pop-up GIF Player, or, alternatively, by right-clicking on the GIF Scrubber icon next to the address bar, and selecting "Options". Hope this helps!
  • (2021-04-27) Zekk: Can't open in current tab and can't open in an incognito tab.
  • (2021-02-06) Eliza Winterwood: Writing this as of Feb 2021; for some reason this extention doesnt seem to work anymore? It used to work beautifully, but it now only displays "Download" and "Render" with two circles underneath. I have uninatalled and reinstalled and messed with the settings to no avail... This was such a useful app although niche, so I'd really appreciate any help.
  • (2020-10-26) Phillip Merriman: Every single gif I try to use this extension with gives me an error: not a valid gif file. Is there a setting I'm missing? I will update the review if I can ever get it to work.
  • (2020-07-17) Teager Eales: Doesnt work on any animaitons. Just says in red 'Not a valid GIF file.'
  • (2020-03-27) Khải Hoàng: Just what I need. Although, categorization of this extension (as "Fun") is not exactly accurate and may hurt discoverability.
  • (2020-03-04) Ron Au: Brilliant.
  • (2020-02-04) Russell: This is amazing. It would be perfect if it had webp support (these image animations are popping up everywhere these days), if I had more control over the playback speed, and maybe could zoom in without bur (ie allow image-rendering: pixelated), but other than that, it has been great.
  • (2019-12-24) Chester Southwood: Good extension. A easy to use application to view gifs in frames without downloading and converting to mp4.
  • (2019-10-21) Jack Richard: Perfect!
  • (2019-08-01) Cytosoul: It works exactly like I was hoping! Thank you, and I have been searching for one of these for a while now and this is just what I needed!
  • (2019-07-01) Hải Duy Châu: Not working at all. Checked auto load. But still not loading when the page contains GIF.
  • (2019-06-06) Charles Zimmerman: Doesn't work for me, all permissions given but there's no change in gif behavior. It won't even save its own options, all options remain permanently blank and the "save" button does nothing. This is the only extension I'm using which does this.
  • (2019-05-09) J R: Works OK, but opens GIF in new tab/window instead of showing controls in original window.
  • (2019-04-20) Carl Evison: Exactly what I needed! great work :)
  • (2019-03-28) CrazyPassion BHL: Usability very good!!!!
  • (2018-12-13) Seán Kelly: No change in .gif behavior; the plugin did exactly nothing. I tried this on both mac and windows to see if it would work on either platform. The player interface did not show in either platform.
  • (2018-08-25) Jason DeMorrow: Does exactly what I want; allows me to slow down animated gifs with text that are moving too fast to read. Would be a lot cooler if you could do this in-tab, instead of opening the gif in a new window.
  • (2018-06-30) Yuanhong Xia: Exactely What I need, extremely helpful. It saved my day to learn animation online
  • (2018-02-10) ahmed hassan: برنامج ممتاز لتحريك الصور والعمل عليه سهل وممتع
  • (2018-01-01) It gave me a .zip file instead of a GIF
  • (2017-11-28) Leonid: Please, add new feature: auto resizing of an image to the bounds of the window.
  • (2017-10-11) nice
  • (2017-08-26) Tim Osborn: Exactly as it says on the tin! Tx for the keyboard shortcuts :+1: (I experience no lag, btw)
  • (2017-01-27) Haran G: it wa okay.. maybe just built in have the player underneath any image opened in chrome gifs esp. but saves the right click hassle i just want that player for all animated PiCS!
  • (2017-01-17) Gorazd Kovačič: Great tool! Problem with 3MB gif though. Takes a long time to "Render" and at the end out-of-memory reported.
  • (2016-12-30) Hh Ss: Wonderful extension; only one gripe: It doesn't seem to work with gifs on cracked.com. I can see the animation on the web page; but when applying GIF Scrubber, it consistently tells me "Not a valid GIF file". Example file: http://s3.crackedcdn.com/phpimages/article/2/2/7/591227_v3.gif
  • (2016-11-13) Nigel Ellis: Worked perfectly!!
  • (2016-11-08) Nick Moore: Great tool. Clean and simple.
  • (2016-10-20) James Koval: All I got when I opened a local gif file with a proper file name extension of ".gif" was "Invalid gif file" and this extension did not work.
  • (2016-10-15) Matt Bodner: Used to work. Does not work in its current state, and has been broken for half a year. Now it only shows black frames when I try to look at a gif.
  • (2016-08-06) Aviva Accipiter: It was working amazing. It was a great app, but after an update it suddenly stopped working, showing only the first frame and blackness for the rest.

  • (2023-04-05, v:4.1.1) Colin Tucker: Nothing happens
The extension lights up when I open a page with just a .gif in it but I don't see any player controls, the keyboard shotcuts (ie space to pause) don't work, and generally it just doesn't seem to do anything.
  • (2021-10-29, v:4.1.0) Laurits Rask: The extension has not worked for me for about a year
I just get two circles "Download" and "Render" that don't move or load anything. What am I doing wrong? If you need any other information I will be happy to give it.

  • (2019-07-14, v:4.1.0) Sean Osborn: gifscrubber
Doesn't work. I get a pop up screen, with two circles labeld "download" and "render" The "download" quickly circles up and shows 100% in the center. That's it. Nothing else happens. Is something supposed to happen?
  • (2018-12-01, v:4.1.0) Carlos Esteban “Luchillo17” Lopez Jaramillo: RAM usage is huge, app crashing
Seems with a gif with enough length it will eat up RAM, hit 4G usage at 75% render progress, then crahsed, specific gif is in this git repo readme: https://github.com/Koolstr/react-toolbox-themr
  • (2018-02-22, v:4.1.0) Nathalie Sandstad: Menu for GIF Scrubber not even appearing.
I'm using Chrome on a mac, and have installed the plugin, I recall it working in the past, but when I right-click on any GIFs atm, I don't get any option for the GIF Scrubber, please advice?
  • (2017-09-12, v:4.1.0) Felina Faerlaingal: Only in new window?
I thought from the description that this would show a little "gif player" on any gif I might find, on any webpage, right away. But instead I have to right click the gif and open it in a new tab all the time. Is this how this is supposed to work? If so, it's a bit tedious, an embedded player would be better...
