Obsidian Web Clipper
Extension Actions
- Extension status: Featured
Save and highlight web pages in a private and durable format that you can access offline. The official extension for Obsidian.
Bring the web to your personal knowledge base. Save content to your Obsidian vault so you always have access to it, even offline. Obsidian is secure, private, and designed around durable open formats that allows you to preserve your data for the long term.
- Clip anything: From news articles and blog posts to recipes, product pages, and research papers — if it's on the web, you can save it.
- Select page content: Clip entire pages, selected text, or automatically extract just the main content.
- Highlight the web: Easily highlight important passages, and select the elements you want to save to Obsidian. Your highlights are saved, so you can revisit them when you return to a page.
- Customizable templates: Create templates to automatically extract structured metadata from web pages.
- Smart triggers: Set up rules to automatically apply the right template based on the website you're clipping from.
- Seamless integration: all your clips flow directly into Obsidian, in the vault and folder of your choice.
As with everything Obsidian, Web Clipper is designed to protect your privacy, and give you control over your data.
- No lock-in: All your clips are saved in clean, durable, portable Markdown files. No proprietary formats.
- Offline access: your saved clips are saved locally, and always at your fingertips, with or without an internet connection.
- 100% private: all your clipped content is stored locally in your Obsidian vault. Your thoughts are yours.
Obsidian helps you create connections and links between your notes so you can organize your thoughts. You can create links between everything — ideas, articles, lists, locations, books — anything you can put in a note, you can link to other notes.

- Works as advertised but to get max value you need to understand how to create custom templates for each type of note. If you just use the default template you are missing half the power of this plugin.

- this makes my life so much easier. would find it much harder to keep track of life without it. the templates take a little bit to learn but that's mostly me, not the product.
- Autin
- Works amazingly and helps my workflow ~90% of the time. Occasionally it will refuse to "save" an article after it just saved one a minute previously, with seemingly no reason for the bug.

- works fantastically

- The UI does a great job of mirroring what I'm used to when I'm working in Obsidian. This made it a breeze to just start using without RTFM. After RTFM, I was pleasantly surprised at the customization and automation options (e.g. templates) this extions offers. It's fast, offers plenty of customizations (which aren't required but handy), has a nearly flat learning curve, and amazingly FREE! This covers most of my favorite things. Thanks to the devs for creating this great extension and offering it to everyone for free.

- Robust and flexible. Outstanding plugin, especially considering how "young" it is.
- Caio Carvalho
- Works great! A few things missing: 1. Download/clip without opening the website - something like right click a link, "Clip website" and it works in the background 2. Ability to clip multiple tabs - selecting a few tabs, and clipping them all 3. Option to download the assets (eg. images, video, gif) rather then using the online reference (eg. s3 asset).

- 👋, seems promising stuff but pls enable actual text highlights and not moving iframe or so on chatgpt.com (do check) p.s. one extra star for young and lean initiative

- Phenomenal. Only wish it enabled bidirectional syncing with the obsidian vault to enable vault context for interpreter prompts for things like tags, existing notes, schema etc.

- By and large, I've been enjoying my experience with the Obsidian Web Clipper; it works well enough for most sites, the Markdown conversion is decent enough, and I can (almost) get the subject format I want out of it to keep notes organized to my liking. Some caveats: It doesn't work on all sites; Facebook is a particularly egregious failure most of the time. About the best I can do 70% of the time is to clip a blank note to preserve the URL, and then copy and paste the text or images I intended to clip. Markdown isn't particularly rich, but for the most part, it will kind of do. Capturing comments from various sites (like Facebook, LinkedIn, and other such places) can be pretty frustrating, and often has to be done piecemeal with copy-and-paste. But for the bulk of my webclipping needs, it works pretty well. Now I just need to find out if there's an API for Obsidian so that I can start accessing content programmatically.

- Doesn't save to obsidian on mises android , just copys to clipboard
- Mark M
- This is VERY POWERFUL and is now doing the work of other plugins (Movie Grabber, Book Lookups, etc.) Just configure the template for each site type to suit your needs and capture the info needed. Does require some understanding of markup and fields used
- FAHM
- It's one of my must extensions! I can easily update my PKM with properties and the help of Interpreter to create my templates. Recommended. My appreciation to the creative team!

- Awesome extension, made capture faster and life easier. At times templater fields don't get filled while clipping the page. But hopefully those problems will get removed soon with subsequent updates. As of now it works beautifully.
- Yu Yuphoria
- Highlights are gone when the extension updated the previous day. Data is much more important than the tool. Had about 100 odd pages worth of highlights gone. Now need to re-invest more time to highlight those again. Dev shouldn't be this careless. Find a way to preserve the data when pushing updates or just don't push updates.
- Kathleen Hall
- Amazing. Life changing. Heads up: if using the "add to note" function, you need to make the "Note Name" the name of the existing note you want to append to.
- Christophe Pele
- Simple and works well. Doesn't require a plugin in the app. I use it to keep access to important pages in Obsidian when I'm offline
- chandler
