Make permanent, private highlights on any web page.

Image from store Super Simple Highlighter
Description from store This extension lets you make highlights on any web page, and subsequently attempts to restore those highlights when you revisit the page. This process is completely private. The location and contents of your highlights never leave your browser. A variety of highlight styles are available, with built-in styles including basic colors, redaction, blurs etc. Highlights can be made via the mouse or a keyboard shortcut. The highlights on a single page can be navigated to from a single popup dialog, and a summary of the page's highlights are also available to view, print, or save. NOTE: - The extension does *NOT* sync across your devices. - There are many factors that may cause highlights not to be successfully restored on subsequent visits. For more details, see the help page.

  • (2025-02-07) Appu Uno: Great Highlighter, unfortunately quite unreliable. The highlighted text isn't permanent. Extension keeps the highlight for say 2-4 days and then auto-delete the highlights, beyond that period so if you visit the page after say a week most likely your highlights are gone. Tested on more than one site. Dev notes in FAQ that it could be due to change in sites markup but I can tell you tested on multiple sites with same issue. Highlights are gone after certain time-period.
  • (2025-01-16) Isabelle Davies: Has worked once in the last 2ish years I've had it... don't get it.

  • (2024-12-21) Sophie-Claire Hagan: This is probably the most helpful tool for studying. The fact that you can colour code highlights is so useful for reviewing and note making. I'm using this for my school speech. Research has never been easier!!!!

  • (2024-12-11) Olive Dargis: Works great for me! Super useful when researching for homework.

  • (2024-11-09) Sean Wilkinson: Is there any way to make this work with chatGPT conversations? It would be so helpful to be able to highlight different passages.
  • (2024-10-31) Hiroyoshi Ohama: great
  • (2024-10-28) Stanislav Kalashnik: It should highlight. Why it requests my history?

  • (2024-10-19) Matthew Preston: It isn't working well for me now, is anyone else having any issues? Before this it worked perfectly for years
  • (2024-10-18) S T: Doesn't work well in Gmail, whenever I highlight a few words it jumps back and only highlights one word instead.
  • (2024-10-17) update 10/16/2024 Suddenly stopped working with a recent upgrade in chrome. I like how it works and how it maintains the highlights when you re-open the pages. But found a problem. Opened it today 4/1 and all the previous months marks were gone from one page I do check offs on. Its a calendar page with events that are marked after completion.

  • (2024-10-01) Joshua Nunez: Been using it since before I graduated highschool in 21' its amazing and helps with whatever i'm doing regardless of the subject.
  • (2024-09-23) Javad: Super simple, yet full of options for user customization.
  • (2024-09-22) Trọng Nghĩa Đoàn: Work on dynamic content like AWS documentation sites. Which most other extensions for highlighting words are failed.
  • (2024-09-10) Frank: Seems to work on most pages except MSN news pages which, of course, has more to do with whatever crazy stuff MSN does to render their news story pages and not with the highliter tool. It would be nice but for free I'm not complaining.
  • (2024-08-27) barry udcoff: I can't get this to work consistently. I mark what I want to highlight...I go up to the marker icon...and sometimes it reveals all kinds of colors to mark with and sometimes, it just takes me back to the info or download page. When it's working...it's a PAC (Piece A Cake)...otherwise it's a piece a coal.
  • (2024-08-07) Private User: Have been using it for a long time and now does not work on ANY site. There was a recent update to Chrome so dont know if this has any reason for the loss of use. Can you please advise? Once again it does not work on ANY site. I have removed and reinstalled yet no change. Thank you.
  • (2024-07-23) Sijie Luo: It works well on most of the pages. Just hope it can create sidenote as well.
  • (2024-06-27) Jonas Little: seems like an awesome extension but not being able to highlight PDFs is definitely a huge draw back
  • (2024-06-24) Nurul: Not sure if it's just me but sometimes my hotkeys doesn't work.
  • (2024-06-13) Reza Sattary: Set your preferred keybinding and highlight without touching mouse. Its amazing, many thnks for doing this great job!
  • (2024-06-05) Tony Snark: This extension is AMAZING! How did I go so long without it?! It truly is super simple and easy to use, as well as very customizable. Just select some text, right-click, and set the highlight. There's a bunch of preloaded highlight styles and you can edit them or add new ones. You can also set overlapping highlights (so like a big block of yellow highlighter and then add underline to some portion of that and then bold to some portion of THAT). Lets you mark/organize any webpage however you desire. THIS IS SO HELPFUL! Seriously Idk how I never used this before. If you keep pages bookmarked to reference, this is a MUST HAVE extension.
  • (2024-05-13) Talal Abed Alfattah: Loved it
  • (2024-04-23) Sam: This is the best chrome extension of its kind. - customizable keyboard bindings - customizable highlight colors + customizable TEXT colors of what you highlight - in addition to highlighting, it can also bold and strikethrough - magnifies: this makes the text larger - quotes: creates what I call a 'callout' - redacts: hides the content, useful for quizzing yourself It does all of this WITHOUT interrupting/covering anything else on the website, it's like magic BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE - stores all your highlights in a very simple and convenient way, and can READ THEM TO YOU OUT LOUD - exports in markdown format The only thing this is missing is the ability to annotate, but frankly this extension does more than enough, it almost feels rude to ask for more Dev, I appreciate you so much, you've made learning (studying to be a dev / SWE myself) much faster for me
  • (2024-04-11) EYSYS: seamless and fabulous.. can you perhaps add other options though for color, texture, shadow, and a more realistic typical yellow highlighter option? thanks in advance
  • (2024-03-29) Zou Ee: Simple and Easy to use, saves all my highlighted notes in labeled websites, lots of colors to choose ( colour wheel ) Suggestion: - maybe add like annotation / notes would be super helpful and accessible - add like translation options?
  • (2024-03-27) Hayley Shearer: Great! Wish I downloaded sooner. You just highlight and right click and you press super simple highlighter with options of red, yellow, green, cyan, purple, grey, redact, bold, strikethrough, magnify and quotation. Make sure you press the puzzle icon, press the "Super Simple Highlighter" Extension and allow it, then reload the website after installing.
  • (2024-03-22) School: Doesnt work at all
  • (2024-03-02) А. Т.: Add hotkeys, please!🙏
  • (2024-02-29) auryn: I like it but needs the ability to also annotate. I find that I highlight things and then forget the signifigance of why I highlighted it or need to notate an additional comment about the highlighted sentence in relation to something else on the page or document. Syncing across devices would also be a plus
  • (2024-02-24) Cole Patterson: Great! There is not another one as great as this one, and there never will be.
  • (2024-02-07) Klawa Krokk: great tool, but once the paper is opened as PDF in the browser highlighted doesnt work. Could be great if that feature could be added as well :)
  • (2024-01-28) user19: this will be awesome if auto backup to google drive or other services be available i used very much extensions but this is the best one of them.
  • (2024-01-21) Bruce Nutting: I have been using this extension for years. Everything I read online I highlight. I have added many other colors, some with shortcuts.
  • (2024-01-17) Cara Salvaggio: this is honestly life changing. i was sitting here reading a school web assignment, thinking wow i would love to just highlight this rn. looked it up and here it was.
  • (2024-01-05) fatemeh azad: a pity it can't sync with google account :(
  • (2024-01-04) Hasan Talha Çelik: The best one no doubt!
