It will help you optimize your video viewing by allowing you to make quick playback speed adjustments, as well as rewind the video to hear the last few second one more time. We don't read at a constant speed, and we talk much slower than we read - there is no reason why we have to listen at a constant speed and at a (very) slow rate.
Once the extension is installed simply navigate to any page that offers HTML5 video, and you'll see a speed indicator in top left corner of the video player. Hover over the indicator to reveal the controls to accelerate, slowdown, or rewind the video (10 seconds + lowers playback speed). Or, even better, use your keyboard:
- S - decrease playback speed.
- D - increase playback speed.
- R - reset playback speed.
- Z - rewind video by 10 seconds.
- X - advance video by 10 seconds.
- V - show/hide controller.
If you prefer other shortcuts, want to change the increment value, or want the player to remember your playback speed in the future, head into the settings page and customize it to your heart's content.

- I am back with a 1 star rating. The previous "fix" of removing the extension and re-adding it worked for a few weeks. However, in the last few days things started breaking again. Videos would start with random, different speeds (not the pre-configured ones). Hot keys to reset/change the speed would randomly stop working. Very frustrating experience. If this continues to happen I'll have to find an alternative.

- Great extension works on a lot of places and many unexpected ones as well. It kinda works on audio only sites likes music players as well but the controller is not visible in that, that maybe added optionally to have control there as well. The reset feature is best at times when something happens and speed changes to something random although rare, or when the speed of the video is not in sync due to the step value being different or some other reason. Great work! Some minor bugs like speed changing randomly on new tabs can be looked at but then again reset hotkey kind of helps there. Cheers!

- It works great on nearly every player but the "hide by default" button is broken and it shows regardless of if you check it to hide by default. Which is very inconvenient.

- For those that aren't able to save. Try uninstalling and reinstalling. If it's not doesn't work write the websites as 'youtube.com' rather than 'www.youtube.com' or anything else. Not sure which of these worked but one of them fixed the saving issue for me

- Before it was easy to speed up to max in ads inside a youtube video cause it returned to 1x after the ad finished, now the speed is recalled after ad (even if options are disabled in extension), so reset to 1x manually. It would be usefull to hace an option de set automatically restart speed on every video stream change like ads start and finish. Another idea is that speed step change could be exponential. That would be more natural and useful. For example: 1x to 2x: 0.1 step 2x to 3x: 0.2 step 4x to 5x: 0.4 step 5x to 6x: 0.8 step ... Also, when speed surpasses a custom value, when the streams ends, it could restore the speed of the previous stream, cause it considers the last stream (like some ad) is not useful. Or simply remember de stream speed by recognizing the unique identifier of stream. Regards.

- Great plugin. I think it would be helpful to allow users to set the position of the controls overlay - currently it can only be top left corner. Other than that it's perfect intuitive and extremely helpful. Saved me a lot of time.

- I have both increase speed and decrease speed set to 0.5 and preferred speed at 2, but for the past few days, videos have been starting at 1.4 and 1.8 randomly, don't know why. I don't even have a shortcut added to reduce or increase the speed to even make it 1.4 or 1.8, so I know it's a problem with the extension. Please fix this.

- There is an issue that has not been resolved: saved settings aren't saved. And the setting it keeps reverting back to is really annoying. I tried reinstalling this extension. It continues to be a problem. I don't want to stop using this extension because in the past it has been good.

- Sometimes when you start a video it changes randomly the video speed without being touched... and somethimes you can't even roll it back to 1.00 speed because it changes to numbers that don't match your settings of the + - buttons. You had ONE JOB. ONE SIMPLE JOB. And you just can't do it.

- Updated from 2 to 4 stars, because as recent commenters have correctly identified: if you remove the add-on _completely_ and then re-add it to Chrome, it works again as expected. Still 1 star off for not thinking about migrating legacy users (obviously I am not the only one affected by this), or at least communicating that this may be necessary. Kudos to the community though!

- IMPORTANT!!! Old users who have been facing problem because its not been working properly as earlier, you need to remove the extension and click "Add to chrome" again. After the new update it isn't working properly for old users but once you reinstall the extension, it works perfectly. This has been pointed out by many others in the reviews.

- Some people will think that this extension is broken because of a recent update. Actually, I scrolled down the reviews and read someone's comment that said to remove the extension and add it back again. I tried it, and it seems to be working now. My guess is that the Sep 09, 2025 update broke or corrupted our saved settings, so the fix is to generate a new settings file and then apply new settings to that fresh slate.

- for me just removing and readding the extension fixed the incorrect default speed problem that started happening with the new version, probably some preferences corruption or something. everything works fine again, been using this for years and years, perfection

- The new update breaks it. So annoying! whenever i try to return to 1x speed it returns to 2x or something. It didnt behave like this before. Please fix.

- It was working fine for 2 years but maybe with new update(i dont know) the reset buttons (R) speed is always returning to 1.20x (should be 1.0). When i check the settings i see its coming back to 1.20 even if i change to 1.0. I am having this trouble for couple days .

- I think that something is wrong with latest update. While increasing speed (via 'Increase speed' action by 0.1) after re-focusing the video, suddenly the speed seems to be reset, or rather decreased by 1 unit. I don't press any other button, only 'Increase speed' The same happens with 'Decrease speed' action (I have set it to 0.1). When I click couple of times the shortcut key to decrease the speed, it suddenly drops like by 1 unit or so.
