• (2023-04-19) Piper Mcleod: Ecosia is a great search engine i use in my everyday life to indirectly help the planet while i work. However there are many ways Ecosia can improve. 1. When you search a direct question on google it answers it in bold letter immediately without you having to look through websites yourself, if not asking a direct question, google will offer the "frequently asked questions" section which can be very helpful for gaining answers. Ecosia does not have these options, and it makes it difficult to find answers to research questions fast. 2. I wish Ecosia was customisable as when I used the google search engine I was able to add my own background of my family, which I can no longer do anymore. Other then this Ecosia is great and since it's fairly new I can definitely see these search engine updates in the future. However I have one more question: It says 170,000,000 Million trees have been planted by the ecosia community, I don't believe this many trees have been planted and this is just how many are going to be planted from the users searches, I'm worried Ecosia will not be able to planet this many trees with the number continuing to rise.

This isn't a huge problem for me personally though so I would recommend this as it works the same as a normal browser with added benefits like grading websites on their environmental impact and sustainability. Love this extension personally

Aproximadamente el 80% de los beneficios los utilizan para plantar árboles y el resto se reinvierten en la empresa. El buscador es muy bueno y no echo de menos usar Google. Aparte de esto, la empresa es europea, por lo que al utilizar la app estarás creando empleo en Europa y ayudando al mundo a plantar árboles. Algunos de los lugares dónde Ecosia ha donado dinero para plantar árboles es Sudamérica y también en España :) Te recomiendo encarecidamente que aunque sea pruebes el buscador!

  I hate the Bing search Engine, it never shows me what I want and it looks awful. I'd like to use Google search instead which is much better. However I want it to pass through Ecosia first so I can plant some trees! Is there a method or plugin to take the Bing results page and re-search through Google, thereby increasing my tree count but showing me Google results? It's a bit of a cheat, but I'm happy if it plants trees and shows me the results I want.

  When I first started using Ecosia (which I promote like mad), I was able to set it up so that when I carried out a search, the page automatically came up and I just carried out my search via Ecosia. Now I have to "search" for Ecosia and then carry out the search I'm after. Very annoying.

  I've had the Ecosia chrome extension for a pretty long time now but starting just today, whenever I go on a new tab, instead of it being the Ecosia tab, it just goes to a regular google new tab. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling but it isn't working. Can anyone help me? I've also seen other people are having the same problem so it'd be useful if this got fixed. My guess is that this has to either do with Ecosia itself or Google. Regardless, if it DOES have something to do with Ecosia, could you guys fix it or tell me what to do so I can fix it? Thanks!

  When I open Chrome or a new tab in Chrome Ecosia doen't work, basically it only shows a grey screen, with no backround and a search bar. I tried to re-enable the extension, I even tried to reinstall my browser but nothing has solved the issue. When I search something on the internet the Ecosia logo still shows up in the corner and if I press it it takes me to the Ecosia website, but if I open a new tab Ecosia still doesn't work properly.

  An extra scrollbar has recently appeared in chrome on PC alongside search results, like in the results pane. It is incredibly annoying because mouse wheel will operate this scrollbar rather than the browser's one, meaning to scroll results you need to click outside the results pane. If this is not fixed within 24 hours I am removing the extension.

  Much like others, I think the ability to retain use of the preinstalled custom Chrome themes would be exceptionally useful - the 'plaanted trees' counter is lovely, leave that in! I have actively uninstalled Ecosia on my new device because the themes aren't carried over with the ecosia extension.

  Every time I run Malwarebytes with Ecosia installed, MB finds Ecosia's files as malware. I determined that every file it found was in fact just Ecosia giving it false positives. There is no way to tell MB that those files are fine, so it's kind of a pain to have to scrutinize every file it finds in its system scans to determine if they are OK, or legit malware. I doubt I'm the only one with this issue, since it happens every time, even after I totally reinstalled Windows 10.
