This extension allows you to translate the text selection using Google Translate whenever you want.
When the extension is installed select some text from a website, right click and select to which language you want to translate the selected text.

Q: Why choose this extension and not another one?
A: I designed this extension so that it didn't prompt the user for permissions. This way the final user knows that the extension doesn't have the permission to access the content of web pages and monitor the user activity on the Internet (other extensions of this type prompt for this permission). This extension has access only to the content of the selected text when the user clicks the extension context menu and it is used to create a Google Translate app with the text autocompleted.
You can configure from the options page which languages you want to show in the context menu.

** Beta version**
As this extension has so many users I've decided to upload a Beta version of the extension to the Chrome Web Store so I can test it before uploading any update to the stable version! This way I can make sure the stable version of the extension is 100% bug-free.

It works great and I wish more of the negative reviewers here understood that compromises were made deliberately to achieve the goal of requiring the minimum amount of permissions, which I really appreciate!
- (2021-07-28) Petter Nerman: Desperately needs a "translate text" option to be used in conjunction with the extension shortcuts at chrome://extensions/shortcuts, because as it stands now, you're forced to right click and scroll down to the translate option via the pop-up menu every time you want to translate something which simply isn't practical at all. With the addition I am suggesting you'd be able to translate at the press of a button. Not sure why this hasn't been added as it's an obvious improvement.

- (2020-12-14) Felice: Does exactly what I want. Copies the text and opens a google auto-translate tab with it. Some people want it to happen on the page itself, but that requires letting an extension read and modify any page you read, which is a scary thing to ask me for. Great compromise.

I right click on one of the lines of foreign text and a pop-up will appear saying that the page could not be translated. This extension name is 'translate selected text'. It automatically wants to translate the whole page, but that is not what I am wanting. This extension is not useful nor helpful. I have disabled it and now leaving this review and rating of one star and when I click 'PUBLISH', my next action will be to 'REMOVE' this extension.
