Description from store Highlight & organize your research with Weava online Web & PDF highlighter. Simplify your research process. Focus on Productivity. Don't waste time on keeping track of sources, copying & pasting, or making citations. On average, our users report that the Chrome extension helps them save 3.8+ hours each week. That's a lot of hours that you instead can spend on the things that really matters to you. WITH WEAVA YOU CAN: ➤ Highlight websites and PDFs with multiple colors, and make annotations. Revisit them with a single click. ➤ Organise your highlights into folders and sub-folders. ➤ Create citations automatically for your highlights. ➤ Access your highlights anywhere. Your highlights and notes are saved in the cloud. ★ TRUSTED BY 2,000,000+ USERS: Weava is trusted by students, researchers, business professionals, and people who simply just want to do better and more efficient work. The tool adapts to your needs and research style, giving you the flexibility to review your articles & sources every time you research online. ★ WEAVA PREMIUM: If you want to supercharge your research and maximize efficiency, Weava Premium is your answer. Here are some of the things that you can do with Premium: ➤ Customize any color you want ➤ Create unlimited sub-folders to organize highlights ➤ Unlimited storage in the cloud to store your files ➤ Clip images and save them in the workspace ➤ Collaborate with your friends or team in real-time ★ FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS & CUSTOMER SUPPORT: For frequently asked questions (FAQs) and customer support, please see: https://weavatools.atlassian.net/servicedesk/customer/portals ★ IMPORTANT THINGS TO NOTE: ➤ Please note that Weava only visually renders the highlights from your current active folder. ➤ You can enable/disable the highlighter pop-up with the keyboard shortcut Alt+S (Option+S on Mac). And you can customize your keyboard shortcuts in your Google Chrome settings (chrome://extensions/shortcuts) ➤ While the tool works on most websites, please note that some websites have conflicting code that results in the Weava highlighter not functioning properly. ➤ Weava fetches and visually renders your color highlights based on the respective URL you first made the highlight on (for websites and online PDFs). Please note that, while your highlights and annotations are always saved in the sidebar and dashboard, if the website URL for some reason changes, then the visual rendering of your highlights are not visible unless you update the URL in the "Edit Source" functionality on the dashboard. ➤ You can 1) highlight local PDFs directly from your computer. 2) Online PDFs, and 3) upload PDFs directly to Weava. Uploading PDFs will ensure you the smoothest experience. ➤ You are currently unable to directly highlight on PDFs inside certain 3rd party software, such as in Google Classroom, Blackboard and Canvas. Instead you would need to first download the PDF and then use it with Weava. We hope to have better solutions towards this in the future. ★ CHROME EXTENSION PERMISSIONS EXPLAINED: Weava's requested permissions are needed for the tool to function properly. However, the exact phrases provided by Chrome for these permissions are misleading and make them sound more invasive than they actually are — and you will generally see the same exact warnings on practically all Chrome extensions. Here's a further breakdown of the required permissions to run Weava: ① "Read and change all your data on the website you visit" ➤ "Read": The Weava Chrome extension has passed all of Google’s automated and manual security checks and is safe to use. The extension reads the current URL of the page you make highlights on - and is also checking if you have existing highlights on this URL so that it can visually show these to you. That's it. ➤"Change": Weava needs to modify the website you are visiting in order to show you the Chrome extension highlighter pop-up on top of it. Weava also needs this permission to be able to change the text background color accordingly whenever you make a highlight. ② "Modify data you copy and paste." ➤ Weava needs this permission simply to create and save the highlights you are making. Without it we would just be a nice color tool but without the capabilities to save the exact content you highlighted and show this to you in the sidebar and dashboard. ③ Separately, in the Weava Chrome extension settings, you can enable "Allow access to file URLs" which gives Weava permission to read PDF local file paths so that you can highlight PDFs directly from local files on your computer. Similarly to highlights on websites, it ONLY reads the file path of the file you are highlighting on and it is only doing this in order to be able to save the highlight and to fetch and visually render these highlights on subsequent visits. By installing the extension, you agree to Weava's Terms and and Privacy Policy (https://weavatools.com/terms-and-privacy).

  • (2025-07-01) Cheryl: Horrendous. I used this for about a month before it went downhill. At first I was able to open pdfs and highlight normally, but after a while I noticed that my highlights would disappear from my pdfs. Don't even get me started on the UI of it. It's so glitchy trying to highlight pdfs and scroll up and down when using the website. Like, constantly scrolling me back to the top of the page when I'm trying to go to the next page or even highlight text. It's ridiculous. Now I can't even open my pdfs anymore. Something about "pdf not accessible". The documents show up in my folder for like a second, then they completely disappear and I'm unable to do anything. Can't access any pdfs or highlights that I uploaded, can't upload new documents, can't delete documents, can't even change or delete folders. Honestly, there's too many bugs to even cover, and it's very frustrating trying to use the extension.
  • (2025-07-01) give catgirls: Can't even make an account. I want to use it but I'm stuck in this infinite "complete the questionnaire" page where every time I click, signup/login it leads me back to it and it never goes anywhere. Also customer support is EXCLUSIVE to paying customers, pisses me off so badly. There's nothing on their website that can help you either. I've tried to make an account on 3 devices already, don't know why it has such high ratings.
  • (2025-07-01) c w: Why does it keep sending me to the questionnaire page? Uninstalling...
  • (2025-06-29) Vasundhara Hukkeri: I had such a bad experience with this extension. The day i added this to chrome, it worked as advertised but after a few days the pdfs are not uploading, i can't highlight them. online i can, but download things i can't which are more important for my work. i had high hopes truly disappointed. Please fix it.
  • (2025-06-14) Ahsan Nabi Khan: Not bad. Must have kept my Amanah Safe!
  • (2025-05-17) Rianna Lyons: does not work at all
  • (2025-04-23) kevät sova: works sometimes okay but really annoying to use. the highlighter panel moves too quickly when trying to highlight a text segment. sometimes instead of highlighting, the text is zoomed in. also, the highlights are not visible when zooming in or out. also does not allow to highlight some segments of text.
  • (2025-04-13) time linux: I also use the Google Translate plugin when I select text, and it would be better if your plugin syncs with the Google Translate plugin, which has a better user interface.
  • (2025-04-02) John: Not working at all!
  • (2025-03-13) Saransh Mittal: Too many bugs Very unresponsive UI the highlights disappear on zooming in and out Worked fine for first two or three pdfs but useless after that
  • (2025-02-05) Extropian Transhumanism Transcend: you can highlight multiple words on the page if you separate it with a space, click 'highlight all', and 'multiple search terms'. You just can't separate each search term if they're phrases. It creates its own online file editor. Each search term in a different color, but you can't edit which colors are which. It's the closest I could find for a multi search and highlight on pdf of any! Doesn't work on a regular webpage - wants you to sign up for that.
  • (2025-02-05) Man Castle: not really functioning
  • (2025-01-23) Kim Hyung: I started using Weava since 2017, but since a couple years ago, the extension and app has really gone downhill! It's really been frustrating to use, with random glitches, disappearing highlights, lagginess, and even trouble logging in. All of this have made this tool really unreliable for my daily use. For those who are as frustrated as I am, I really recommend Reader Mode as an amazing alternative: https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/reader-mode/llimhhconnjiflfimocjggfjdlmlhblm It's really reliable, actively maintained, with a focus on reading, highlighting, bookmarking and even accessibility with the features like distraction-free reader, dyslexia fonts, reading ruler and Text-to-speech. It's really worth trying!
  • (2025-01-22) Mariana Farias Egues (Mari): Pretty buggy but good enough in regards to free version, wouldn't pay based on reviews and my initial experience.
  • (2024-12-17) Hamidreza Rahimi: Warning: Unreliable and Possibly a Scam! I initially used Weava as a free tool for a couple of months and decided to give the premium features a try. My intention was to subscribe for one month, but due to an issue during registration, I was charged for an entire year. I immediately contacted their support to correct this mistake and downgrade my subscription—but I never received any response. Over the past month, I’ve sent multiple support requests and follow-up emails. Not a single one has been answered. To make matters worse, I’ve also encountered serious issues with the software itself: Folders and highlights randomly disappear from the dashboard. The tool is unreliable for saving and organizing data, defeating its core purpose. For a free tool, Weava might be acceptable, but this is NOT a product ready to sell. A proper product starts with reliable customer support, and here, there is absolutely none. I will update this review with screenshots of multiple emails I have sent to their support team to show how unresponsive and unprofessional they have been. If you value your time, data, and money, stay away from Weava.
  • (2024-12-08) Ava Raham: Really useful but constantly buggy. Im able to work through it though
  • (2024-11-29) YOUSSEF KHAIRY: trash dont use it
  • (2024-11-23) Chen Markson: It is my first minute using the app and I haven't placed my first highlight, and I already encountered a bug that when you select texts in the PDF viewer, the zoom magnification jumps between page width to the previous magnification repeatedly. This is unusable. I will change my review when the bug is fixed
  • (2024-10-28) Stanislav Kalashnik: 8 Mb! Are you serious? Have you put there a whole operation system?
  • (2024-09-29) Kaci Switzer: I used to love and hype up Weava to anyone I met, but now it just straight up won't work. Literally will not open any PDFs...that's like its whole point...brutal.

  • (2024-06-28) Victoria Oly: too slow and buggy
  • (2024-06-13) Shubham Thakkar: Awesome extension. One issue I noticed - It is not working on github page properly, can someone check if this is an issue or requires some feature request. Sample page - https://github.com/fastai/fastbook/blob/master/10_nlp.ipynb
  • (2024-05-16) Noah Wolcott: If you select text in your browser, the highlight tool appears and WILL NOT GO AWAY even after de-selecting or right-clicking away. Like other said, highlights also disappear randomly after shutting down your browser and editing highlights has a 50/50 shot of being saved. Can't wait 'till a competitor does it better.
  • (2024-05-06) maki: its working now :) just had to explore things here n there
  • (2024-04-21) Utku: TERRIBLE! Randomly deletes some of your highlights, very glitchy sometimes. Wastes your effort and energy....
  • (2024-04-18) Ka: Doesn't work at all. (windows 12)
  • (2024-04-15) Drakkon: dont work
  • (2024-04-05) Mechas Pelaez: Many thanks; Easy & Useful.

  • (2024-03-19) Diêgo Araújo: De ótima extensão para péssima.
  • (2024-03-09) mq mq: Useful & easy.
  • (2024-02-20) Raju Kunwar: Nice. Please add the option for style text copy.
  • (2024-02-04) Satriani Christi Garcia: doesnt work too well, a bit disappointed as when i last downloaded it, it worked just fine.
  • (2024-02-04) Hakan: the app has been abandoned for years and nearly become useless. Lagging, slow, and many essential updates never really came. It was promising but it costs more additional time than helping productivity. Shame
  • (2024-01-29) Marros Saldanha: Muito prático e ótima usabilidade
  • (2024-01-27) Miftahul Rezki: It's heavy, making my browser lagging
  • (2024-01-25) hagar maher: I suddenly experienced lagging of chrome, freezing, and alot of glitches switching from tab to tab, and my macbook air saying chrome is excessively using up power, my battery was draining before I even notice. Only to realize that Weava was the issue! I turned it off and voila! every thing is back to how it was, chrome is doing just fine and not sucking up the battery power! Why not fix it? It was working fine around a month ago.
  • (2024-01-20) K D: Haven't seen any feature updates for years. Looks like another abandoned software. Nowadays, people are more inclined to use bookmark/tab/window/session management software like Workona and others. Three years ago, I requested a simple feature: to treat a folder as a "bookmark" folder, allowing one to open all the links in it simultaneously. Such a straightforward enhancement would enable this software to double as a bookmark manager. However, it doesn't seem like that's going to happen.

  • (2024-01-16) Bob Loucks: Works as advertised on the tin ! Quite useful*
  • (2024-01-07) Shrijal Pradhan: Used to be very good. Now the highlight popup window will appear randomly on the screen completely covering parts of the text you were reading and being generally slow and annoying. I can't understand why software designers can't sit on a perfect product, instead moving things around all the time. I would hope something as small as an extension wouldn't have the same top-down corporate problems as big tech, but apparently not. So I copied this from a review a saw here and this perfectly describes it. The thing is I thought weave was amazing and I wrote to their tech support saying that I really enjoy using weave and I would like them to look into the issue so I could keep using it. They sent an automated "kinda" reply saying I should re-visit my issue or it will be closed. I then wrote a second mail saying I am interested in keeping the issue open. I sent the email twice to two sources. No reply :/. Regrading making an amazing product bad, why can't they just roll it back to the previous version?
  • (2024-01-06) Antonella Massaro: I use this app all the time while studying and researching, it's extremely helpful. The premium version adds some nice features but for a basic use the free version is more than enough. Absolutely try it if you're a student or a person who highlights their physical books!
