Description from store Peek is a browser extension that lets you preview dozens of types of documents before you download them. Just hover over a file's link, and Peek will display an interactive preview of the file instantly. Peek can create previews for the following file formats: * PDF, TXT, RTF documents * Word Documents (.doc, .docx) * Excel Documents (.xls, .xlsx) * PowerPoint Presentations (.ppt, .pptx) * WebM, MP4, GIFV, and OGG/OGV Video * MP3 and WAV Audio * JPEG, PNG, GIF, SVG, PNG, APNG, ICO, and BMP images Peek can also show documents hosted on Google Docs and Apple iCloud. However, iCloud support is limited to Keynote files, as Apple doesn't allow other documents to be embedded. Peek is open source under the GPL license. • (2023-11-08) Nicole Ahmed: Excellent extension and a very responsive developer. I've tried lots of the office extensions on chrome and most are rubbish, some are malicious. This extension is innovative and so useful. The peek window to preview files before fully opening them is excellent, The pop out window is great because you resize the window and have it open alongside your other work. This doesn't have editing capabilities, just viewing. But is very useful for viewing documents conveniently. Highly recommend

  • (2021-11-19) Roadrunners Garage Doors: I really liked this extension when it worked but now it seems like it doesn't work at all regardless of what website I am on and what link it is.
  • (2021-02-18) Aatif Iqbal: Fantastic extension, works perfectly
  • (2019-11-16) 黒坂文武(Fishmanzero): Useful tool! Looking forward to an option for preview size.
  • (2019-03-26) Santiago Galán: Very usefull!
  • (2019-01-11) Mojtaba Vahdati: Very interesting idea, but it works for none of the YouTube videos neither from inside YouTube nor from the Google video search page (Google.com/Videos) results which is a real drawback. But I gave 5 stars because I really love the extension purpose and because it's open sourced. Great job Mr Daven Port.
  • (2017-05-21) Anton K: A very useful extension for all those docs you'd rather preview before downloading. Some minor issues, still worth using.
  • (2017-05-02) I discovered this extension thanks to Corbin's Android Police post, and it's really helpful.
  • (2016-09-15) Donavon Lasseter: Worked for about half a second. Chrome freezes when in use. Have to restart my computer.
  • (2016-01-08) Hannah Katagi: Great extension! This should get more exposure!
  • (2015-12-08) Matthew K: Really neat idea. Can be a little intrusive (pops up quick and often), so an option to only pop up when holding a hotkey would be ideal.

  • (2021-10-04, v:4.0) B Thorn Howe II: Please, please keep developing this
Out of all the mouse-hover link-previewing extensions, this is one of the most visually clean and potentially intuitive ones. It delivers the intended results when it is able to work in the right environment, but it still has a lot of room to grow into the finely-tuned and absurdly versatile tool it deserves to be. The post previously submitted by Faizi Crofts, (Aug 11, 2019,) absolutely hit the proverbial nail on the head. If users were able to use an optional hotkey (or something like a variably-timed link-hover trigger) to confidently activate/wake the extension, then it could be well on its way to becoming a household name. (As much as a browser extension really can be at least) If you were able to overcome that hurdle, then Peek would be working well enough that even if it's still missing functionality to load previews of links universally, it will be delivering a service that's appealing enough to attract new people to an inevitably growing user base, stable enough to keep people emotionally-invested while the app keeps being developed, and most importantly; provides a much-needed tool to all the people who have been trying all other available link-peeking extensions, just to be repeatedly disappointed by lackluster and clunky imitations... There's already an established interest in this type of utility within the community. Fortunately, you've got a great head-start in providing that service to users of the community. Peek could undeniably corner the market on an extension like this. Also, if you reach out to the community, I'm positive that there will be people who will leap at the chance to provide feedback, troubleshoot, and even brainstorm with you. You'll get as much from the community, as you open yourself to receive. You're efforts so far are very appreciated. I know developing things can be a thankless and tedious task, but still.. thank you for what you've done. So please, please... don't give up on this project. You are amazing. Never change.
  • (2021-09-13, v:4.0) Jeffery Decker: preview web pages also, please
    Thanks for your consideration.
  • (2020-10-07, v:3.0) son nguyen: how to use it?
    it dont work?
  • (2019-08-11, v:3.0) Faizi Crofts: Add Hot Key option, also add preview web page option
Add a Hotkey option. Additionally, add an option to preview not just docs but web pages. (helps me decide if I want to proceed). 1st: hotkey: my preference and I think that of many of your users - is that we be able to use the extension only when invoked via hotkey so that the normal function of web documents doesn't change. This is a way to add a feature without breaking intentionality of page developers. 2nd: preview web page - For some of us it would be a real boon to be able to "peek" at a page before visiting it. If you DID add this, perhaps it's best to leave it "off" by default for those who just want to peek at media and such with this extension but it would be a really great feature. I think there are probably web browsers out there that do this natively but I am not sure (vague and uncertain memory about that). If you implement at least the first feature request I hope I find out about it because I will install the extension. :)
