Image from store Bookmark Search
Description from store Search for bookmarks and quickly navigate to them using the omnibox (the address bar) easily! Type the keyword "bm", which is shortened from the word "bookmark", tab/space and start typing! It can support JavaScript bookmarklets by enabling the corresponding option in the options page. This extension is open-sourced, available at GitHub: https://github.com/alvinhochun/chrome-bookmark-search Changelog ======== == 2.0.0 (2025-03-03) == - Migrate to Manifest V3, since Manifest V2 is being obsoleted. Otherwise, the Chrome Web Store would have disabled and removed this extension. (Thanks sfllaw for the patch.) - Remove support for JavaScript bookmarklets, because Chrome and other browsers enforce Content Security Policy on bookmarklets. (Thanks sfllaw for the patch.) - Fix the built-in search so it doesn't break on bookmark folders. (Thanks sfllaw for the patch.) - Modify small icon to make it look better in dark mode. == 1.4.3 (2018-08-19) == - Fix the bookmark page search link on more recent Chrome versions. (Thanks nbegley for the patch.) - Fix a typo. (Thanks nbegley for the patch.) == 1.4.2.1 (2013-08-09) == - Pressing arrow keys or switching windows could cause automatic matches (first match item) to be forgotten. Some code has been modified to prevent this from happening. (Thanks northtea for pointing it out) == 1.4.2 (2013-07-11) == - JavaScript bookmarklets now requires a lesser permission. If you had enabled JavaScript bookmarklets before, you'll need to re-enable it. - You may now choose where bookmarks are opened with the keyboard. The option is available in the options page. With this option, you can open bookmarks on a new foreground tab by pressing Alt + Enter, or on a new background tab by clicking on an item with the middle mouse button. - Fixed a minor bug which sometimes causes the wrong page to be opened. == 1.4.1 (2013-03-07) == - Made the searching algorithm selection option more clearer. - Added a page to test different searching algorithm. == 1.4 (2013-02-27) == - Implemented a new searching and sorting algorithm which should give better and more useful results in general. == 1.3.4 (2013-02-20) == - Removed an optional permission which is no longer needed. - Changed the way of informing version updated. == 1.3.3 (2013-02-19) == - Changed the bookmark manager's page back to chrome://bookmarks/ (which I forgot to change in 1.3.2). - Changed the way of invoking JavaScript bookmarklet due to some security concern. == 1.3.2 (2013-02-19) == - Slightly improved the options page. - The extension will now ask you to enable JavaScript bookmarklet support when attempt to use one. - Minor code changes produces slight unnoticeable performance increase. - Chrome will now unload this extension when not being used, so it will not consume any system resources when idle. == 1.3 (2012-07-12) == - (internal) Switched to manifest version 2. - The persist permission to "your data on all websites" and "your tabs and browsing activity" is removed. Instead an option is added for enabling support for JavaScript bookmarklet. The related permissions will be requested only when the option is enabled. - A bug that prevents automatically navigating to the only match when the option "Automatically selects full match on name" is disabled is fixed. == 1.2.2 (2011-09-14) == - Javascript bookmarks had never worked before due to lack of permission. This version should have fixed it. == 1.2.1 (2011-09-13) == - Due to my carelessness, a full match will pops out both the selected page and the bookmark search page. This is likely fixed. - Automatically selects if there is only one search result. - Allow setting the maximum items to show. - The option page should work fine. - Some minor improvements. == 1.2 (2011-09-12) == - Bookmark Search can now automatically select the full match. (see Options) - Display is improved. It now shows both name and address. - Some minor improvements. - The icons are updated, although they are still... == 1.1 (2011-03-05) == - Changed the keyword from "bookmark" to "bm"! == 1.0 (2011-02-28) == - First release!

  • (2025-04-30) Topher Reynolds: Was hoping this allowed for more fine-tuned searching (ie, search for bookmarks within a folder or path, instead of all bookmarks like Chrome does)... unfortunately it just searches the same way Chrome searches... all thousands of my bookmarks.
  • (2025-03-14) Mr. Lance E Sloan (UMich): This extension is redundant. It's unnecessary because this feature is built into Chrome already. If it's not set up already, you can configure it yourself with a couple of easy steps: In Chrome settings choose the item "Manage search engines and site search" (chrome://settings/searchEngines). Add a new "Site search". When creating the new search, name it "Bookmarks", use the shortcut "*", and the URL "chrome://bookmarks/?q=%s". Then save the new search. To use it, in the URL/search box of the browser window, type "*" (without quotes), followed by the spacebar or tab key. Chrome will prompt you to "Search Bookmarks". Then you can type the name of bookmark and Chrome will find it. If you don't like using "*" for the search shortcut, you could try "@bookmarks" or "bm" (to work exactly like this extension; or for "bowel movement").
  • (2024-06-13) ft ft: Concept is great and aims to perform fast. However the results are messed, making it hard to locate the items. Either directly type @bookmarks in the address bar (the built-in chrome feature which is good enough for most scenarios), or try mindecho which is a universal bookmark search extension supporting reading list as well.
  • (2024-04-20) LastManStandingUK: Wow I have literally billions of bookmarks, and this is a great addon
  • (2024-02-04) Bob Kilroy: This is a very nice tool. I've found this to be very helpful when I need to find a bookmark quickly (I have thousands of them). All you need to do is type BM in address bar, then hit <TAB>. You'll then be able to type in your search and the results will appear in a dropdown menu. All without needing to use your mouse. That's part of what makes the searches so quick. People have said there should be more results, but that's a limitation of Chrome. It's not perfect, but it does the job right, and does it quickly.
  • (2022-11-19) Very easy to use !!! Exactly what I wanted! Improved my life 2x
  • (2022-09-29) Prasannjeet Singh: It's a good idea, but there is a scope for improvement. 1. Search shows only a few suggestions, so the user might think these are the only search results. Please show more results if possible. 2. The search algorithm is very weak. For example, if my bookmark is saved as "Run Docker commands in Rancher", if I search for "Docker Rancher" it will still not show me the result. This effectively makes the extension very less useful, since no one remembers the exact phrase of their bookmarks, unless they just want to search using just one word.

  • (2021-03-08) Siavash Mortazavi: FEEDBACK: Thanks for the extension, it's supper useful. Currently the search has a 'starts with...' algorithm, please include a 'contains...' algorithm as well. It is a very common scenario when then user wants to look up a keyword or phrase among all bookmarks. Thanks a lot! :-)

  • (2020-12-31) Derrick Martin G.: Far superior search results as compared to a standard Chrome bookmarks search. Would be great to have the search string return results for names of folders in bookmarks.

  • (2020-02-01) Veeresh Devireddy: Hi, The sub-string search doesn't work in most cases, below are cases: 1. Search "free ssl" - It works 2. Search "ssl free" - It does NOT works 3. Search "free cert" - IT does NOT work, though the bookmark name is "free ssl cert" Can you fix these issues? I got 3000+ bookmarks, and this sub-string feature is very important. You just need to search based on multiple independent words, not just straight string.

  • (2019-12-16) Adrian Garza: I Love this extension because I can get to pdf's with shortcuts i've created in bookmarks way quicker than having to click my way through pages to get where I want, I think having an option without this line of code " (!jsMatch.test(n.url) || " under the function b.searchSubTrees in search_common.js would be very beneficial. I have bookmarks with similar url's but no where near the same bookmark title. that way i wouldnt have to type the entire bookmark title before i get the (only match) suggestion.

  • (2019-10-08) Aaron Brock: Very helpful, however, when searching the number one option in the drop down is "Search in Bookmarks" rather than the actual bookmark... It'd be great if there was a option to disable this. Also, the ability to change the keyword from "bm" would be nice.

  • (2019-07-04) Mike Maksim: Simple, effective, and functional! FINALLY a near-perfect implementation of searching and opening bookmarks directly from the omnibox! Prior to using this, I could enter part of a bookmark name, and maybe only one result from my bookmarks would actually be listed as a suggestion, despite having several bookmarks with matching names. Now I can see up to 5 results, and can simply choose to search in bookmarks if that isn't enough. My only suggestion would be to let the user specify the maximum results to show, or include a scrollbar so that all results can be found by hover-scrolling over the suggestion list. Thanks for this extension!
