Description from extension meta

Shows country flag for the website near the location bar.

Image from store Yet Another Flags
Description from store ✨ If you want to see a precise location for a domain — country, city, state — displayed with a pixel-perfect country flag icon, try this one! 📝 Extension shows a country flag for the site opened in the current tab. It also indicates the precise IP address, city, region, and country name in the icon hint and in the popup. 📍 Precision is achieved with Google's free DNS-over-HTTPS service. Country, city, region and post code data is served by the backend that I run at 🔐 https://geoip.furman.im. 🥬 GeoLite2 database created by MaxMind available from maxmind.com is updated twice a week – on Tuesdays and Fridays, so backend always returns fresh locations. 💻 Geographical data is cached locally for a week, so minimal additional requests are made. You can always refresh the data in the popup. 🙅‍♀️ Extension does not collect any user data, nor does it track or identify users in any way. And never will. The same applies to the backend service. 🚩 Extension uses excellent "Flags of the World" icons by Mark James (of famfamfam.com fame). Flags are ISO 3166 compliant, so please let me know if some country has the wrong flag displayed. 🟢 May 3, 2023 🌚 Dark mode support. 🟢 April 20, 2023 🆕 Display resolution 🕙 timestamp in the IP address hint in the popup. Hover the mouse cursor over the IP address and wait for the hint to appear. 🟢 April 17, 2023 🆕 Display loading and error states in the page action icon — no more guessing if the data is being loaded or resolution has failed — the icon provides visual feedback right away. 🟢 April 2, 2023 🆕 Support local DNS resolutions — flags are displayed much more accurately, considering user region. 🟢 February 3, 2023 🎉 Extension is back into active maintenance mode. 🟡 May 21–June 1, 2022 🚚 Hosting provider migrating to new cloud, backend downtime 🇺🇦 The extension includes a link to the Ukrainian non-profit SaveLife https://savelife.in.ua, they provide help with the war effort. The link is not featured prominently, so it's not distracting — see if you can find it!

  • (2024-01-26) Illia Furman: 👾👾👾 Update Jan 31 2023 For all of you who are still here – thank you for your patience and support, I'm glad to inform y'all — extension is back 🎉 This brings daily geoip db updates (working already), better icons (working already, hope you noticed 😅), regular release cycle (if only not for long store reviews). Please excuse my clumsiness with `localhost/*` permissions request, entirely unnecessary 🙏🏼 Next update 1.0.8 solves this problem forever, now extension doesn't need host permissions at all, thanks to a bit smarter server side. And 1.0.9, current pending update switches 🔐 HTTPS between the extension and it's back end. 👉 https://geoip.furman.im/ check this out, now it shows most recent database information I reviewed the feedback and answered what needed answering. Everything else now basically should be fixed, or will be fixed automatically when maxmind fixes this or that range info. People asked about > IPv6 support Technically it could be added, maxmind and dns can do it. Can't imagine how to test this sensibly tho, I barely have seen ipv6 addresses in the wild in all those years. > HTTPS for extension ↔ server And done! Since 1.0.9 all communication happens securely 🔐. Really glad that this thingy works for someone but myself, thank you all again 🙇🏻‍♂️

  • (2023-02-18) Yuki Kart: once it was good! now revived again!
  • (2023-01-27) Andrey Klimov: С версии 1.0.4 (или чуть ранее) стал показывать политические лозунги
  • (2022-05-16) The Darkest Smurf: This extension is virtually useless now. It hasn't been updated in 5 years and for half the websites I visit, even popular ones, the extension doesn't display a flag at all. For the other half the flags are wrong quite often. Moving on to greener pastures.
  • (2022-05-14) Angel Martinez: Plugin abandoned by the author, requires a connection to a database located on his website that no longer exists.
  • (2022-05-14) Silicon World: Abandoned plugin, for correct operation it requires a connection to the creator's website, which has been abandoned and no longer works, so the plugin no longer works as it cannot connect to the geolocation database hosted on its website.
  • (2022-05-13) Akshay: its not working now
  • (2020-09-08) 牛较瘦: Awesome! Love it.
  • (2019-04-22) P N: The flag is a little too small for me, but it's a great extension. The flag sits in the addon bar, and clicking the flag tells you for instance, for chrome.google.com "United States, Mountain View, CA, their IP, and the source (WhoIs).
  • (2019-04-18) Mahesh Chavan: I love it. But Please update your whois database.
  • (2018-10-15) 地址感觉不太准确,也不能在地址栏显示 不过还是很好用的
  • (2018-03-08) EJ Smith: Not as useful as other flag extensions. The flag icon is too small to be easily visible (tcputils.com's "IP Domain Country Flag" is better), and it doesn't give as much information as myip.ms' "IP Whois & Flags Chrome & Websites Rating".
  • (2018-03-02) black wolf: cool
  • (2017-07-02) the popup info balloon it's what i really want, but the flags are really ugly and small :)

  • (2017-02-25) Felipe Sousa VoiceOver: Show! Em tempo real!
  • (2016-12-31) Robert Stevens: This particular extension sends every base URL you visit to 46.102.244.73 on tcp/8080. This is alarming as other extensions for other browsers, such as FlagFox on Firefox, do not send URLs you visit to 'home base'. The description of the application does not mention this little detail and the permissions warnings do not really tell you this is going to happen. The privacy implications are outrageous. Obviously, this is how the extension is designed, but the extension should have, at minimum, a local CIDR database that doesnt require a lookup for each URL you visit with the ability to opt in more targeted geolocation data if the user allows it.
  • (2016-12-18) Eric Yang: Awesome plug-in!! Love it.
  • (2016-12-13) Natasha Kineva: Good extention. But has been crashing a lot lately.
  • (2016-11-24) Wesley Haegens: It works fairly well but It seems that it is not using the local dns / hosts at all. If something in my hosts file is set to another ip, it still gives the one specified in whatever it is using. This makes it pretty useless to me, it took me a while to know that this was the case, wasting a lot of my time.

  • (2016-08-07) John C: Added for the very descriptive and reassuring overview description so far does its job well
  • (2016-06-29) don dolarson: Simple but useful in some cases. Works as described.
  • (2016-06-19) Hugo Ciss: After a Chrome update the flag icon shows up with the menu buttons rather than flush right on the URL bar itself, cluttering the menu bar unfortunately.

  • (2019-03-16, v:1.0.2) Andrei Felix: Country name changes
Hello, love your extension! I'd like to make sure you're aware that a few countries changed their names recently. Swaziland changed its name to Eswatini last year, whereas Macedonia changed its name to North Macedonia last month. Could you update your API so it returns the current names? vlada.mk and netcomm.co.sz are examples of websites hosted in those two countries.

  • (2017-10-29, v:1.0.2) Charles Junior: Wrong IP Location
Hello! Yet Another Flags is one of the most amazing Chrome Extensions. Congratulations for this amazing job. But, there's a lot of wrong informations about several IP locations. This range 213.183.40.XXX, is shown as "Russian Federation", but it belongs to "Frankfurt am Main, Hessen - Germany". This range 201.26.83.XXX, is shown as "Osasco - Brazil", but it belongs to "São Paulo, São Paulo - Brazil". Can you fix it, please? And if you have some link about "report wrong IP location", that would be awesome. Thanks!
  • (2017-07-02, v:1.0.2) IP shown is different with the IP in F12 developer tools
It seemed this extension is getting the site's IP via a remote service or some thing similar. This may affect sites with CDNs enabled, which users seeing different IPs. In my case, I visited www.baidu.com (widely-used search engine in China mainland), this extension shows me an IP located in Hongkong, but if you look at the F12 developer tools, the IP is not same. Because if you visit this site outside of China mainland, the DNS will use Hongkong IP address for a faster access. So it's better to get the IP address directly from the browser.
