Description from extension meta

Timer to keep you focused while processing your inbox in Gmail.

Image from store Mail timer for GMail
Description from store This is a time-saving script I wrote to help me process my inbox faster. After 2 minutes spent on an email in your inbox, it pops up a reminder message to move on. (And when you have less than 30 seconds left, it shows a "30" icon in the browser bar to nudge you along.) Great for quickly clearing your inbox for things like Getting Things Done (GTD.) It's quite basic, but if you like it and use it, I'm happy to make improvements. Update: Now you can choose how much time per email you want to spend.

  • (2018-03-20) The "time's up" alert appears whenever I leave emails open, even if I'm not composing a reply. This is annoying enough that I removed the extension.

  • (2014-06-12) Florian Haas: Sadly, this pops up the timer when the GMail tab isn't in the foreground. That means I'm being reminded of my email when I'm not doing email, and that causes more disruption than benefit to my workflow.
  • (2013-11-07) Guy Ballantyne: couldn't cope with my dual display
  • (2013-10-31) Nathan Mackenzie Brown: When I first started using the plugin it didn't work until I restarted Chrome. It would have been nice to know I needed to restart Chrome. I love the functionality in my inbox, but I also have set up filters to segregate my work and my personal inboxes. The problem with this for the mail timer is that my inboxes that are labels don't work with the timer. I'd give this a 5 star if these two things got fixed.
  • (2013-08-29) Josh Eastburn: Just what I needed to keep me moving through my email. As others have said, it would be great if the time per email could be edited more easily, maybe through a tool bar icon.
  • (2013-04-02) I was thinking "This would be good if I could make it work. It is enabled but it has yet to appear. Where is it?" Nothing was happening. Now I know you have to set the options first. Like how much time you want waste writing an instant reply instead of planning a proper reply at a more suitable time.
  • (2013-01-05) Enyo Kumahor: Fabulous! This is exactly what I needed and exactly what is promised. Please keep it going and make a few improvements. A better message would be great.

  • (2019-12-13, v:0.1.4) David Laidlaw: timeout steals keyboard focus
When the timer goes off, the focus of the keyboard goes to the timer dialog box. Hitting "return" closes that box, which is great. But the keyboard focus does not return to the browser window. One has to click the mouse to be able to type again. I am running Brave v 1.0.1. Great extension! Thanks!

I'd like to help you make this thing awesome! I hate how email takes over my life. Would you be open to having someone else work in it with you? Not interested in any pay. I just want to make it work a little better.

  • (2013-10-31, v:0.1.4) Nathan Mackenzie Brown: Making gmail timer work for labels as well
I've been using your mail timer for gmail for a few weeks now, and I really love it. The problem I was having before seemed to resolve itself when I restarted chrome. Now that I've been using your plugin for a little while, I realize that it has a major shortcoming for the way I use gmail. I have a number of filters set up to act as different inboxes to make it easier for me to track my time doing different types of work. The problem with this, is that non of the labels that act as inboxes for me will work in conjunction with the mail timer. I'd love to have a setting that would allow me to specify labels that I want to have treated as inboxes, or it could just be set up so any label that has the word "inbox" in the label will still get the timer to activate. Any chance you could make this hack? Thanks!

I understand that the timer activates as soon as one enters into his/her inbox. I see in the update note that one can adjust the time. Could you kindly tell me how? Thank you. Ken kuhske at gmail dot com
