I'm not kidding when I say that I won't switch to Safari as my primary browser specifically because this extension isn't available on Safari. I created eleven custom searches of my most-used websites to the SearchBar. All I have to do is highlight the search word on the web page I'm reading and the selected text is automatically input into the SearchBar. From there, clicking on one of the eleven custom search icons in the search bar takes me directly to the custom search word web page I need. It's perfect.

• (2022-04-03) Poul Thomsen: A LIFESAVER! I have used SearchWP 3.0 in Firefox for many years and later in what has become Waterfox Classic. Waterfox Classic is sadly not usable anymore. This plugin does the same, even though it is not as nice as SearchWP. I am sure this is because of Chrome restrictions. Thank you for the plugin and keep up the good work :-)

• (2021-06-20) Phillip Ford: I've been using the extension Selection Search for years (highlight, right click, context menu has various search options) but this has won me over - it's faster to use, even easier to add custom searches to, and has all sorts of features you can tweak too. The only thing I would add is the option to have the search tab be next to the currently open one - selecting the new tab to be the foreground tab is almost as good, but what I'm asking for would be even handier. Great work!

To make it optional as to whether to use only one or multiple search engines on the bar at the same time. For instance let's say I have both Google search and Yahoo search on my SearchBar, then I think I should be able to click both Google and Yahoo search and put in my search say it's "where to go square dancing" then both results from both of those engines would both come up at the same time and I think I should be able to choose as many or as little search engines to use simultaneously as I want to. Or I can choose just one search engine if I want. All I suggest is to make that optional.

  Have been using this extension for a while in Edge, Chrome, and Opera GX. Recently, some of the search buttons quit working as they were in Chrome. I exported the settings to Opera GX and they same searches that were not working in Chrome were working just fine. I have unloaded and reloaded the extension, cleared cache and cookies and restarted the browser multiple times, deleted the searches and re-added them, and still nothing. No updates have been made to the websites (2 of them are sites owned and operated by a friend). I am not receiving any errors. Lastly, I will note that even though a new tab is not opening when clicking these searches, the keywords are appearing in the Search History. It seems like a couple of others are also experiencing this issue based on a couple recent comments made.

  I have used SearchBar with Brave for a very long time, and very happy with it. Recently I switched over to Vivaldi browser. In Vivaldi, I am facing a problem that I didn't have in Brave: SearchBar cannot pass the search string to a particular website: https://sci-hub.ru. SearchBar launches a blank new tab, but the sci-hub website is not loaded in it. The only difference in Vivaldi is that I have installed three extensions for safety: uBlock, Privacy Badger and ClearURL. I suspected that one of these extension is blocking the sci-hub website. But none of them give a notification that they have blocked it. Also, I can launch the sci-hub website by typing its URL in the Address Bar of Vivaldi. The aforesaid three extensions do not block it. So what could be the problem?

  Been dealing with this problem for quite a while now. At different times, seemingly at random the search bar will become unresponsive. None of the buttons will work, and pressing the enter button does not search Google. It is worth mentioning that when the search bar is not working properly if I right-click the text in the box I do get the option to search Google that way. When the search bar is functioning I only get the standard undo cut copy paste delete options. In an effort to try to fix this problem I have disabled all of my other add-ons except for the search bar, I have also went into settings and change the options so that you search for does not automatically display when I open a new tab. This has resulted in not even being able to open the search bar by clicking on the icon when it decides it doesn't want to work. What usually fixes this problem is opening a new tab, after doing that the search for will work for a while before eventually stopping once again. As I write this message the search bar does not work on this page but if I open a new tab and go to this page in the new tab, it will work. Very strange problem, I am on the latest version of Chrome as well

  Recently, some favicons that had been working for years on my SearchBar stopped working. Usually, when this happens, it's because the website changed its favicon URL. My solution is to use Google's favicon retrieval system to generate a new URL for that website and replace the deprecated URL. However, this time, the favicons that have broken are precisely the ones that use Google's system. At first, I thought Google had changed something on their side, but, after experimenting with a few different websites, it seems Google's system still works fine for some of them (such as Vimeo), but not (several) others (e.g. TinEye, hunter.io, MetroLyrics and eHow). That got me thinking: is it possible Google did change something on their side, but the incompatibility is with SearchBar's code, instead of with the favicon URLs? I'm really grasping, TBH, as I don't know nearly enough about coding to make a more educated guess. But I decided it couldn't hurt to ask. Thanks in advance for the attention.

  Hi, I love the extension. I really like the degree of advanced options you've enabled and have configured it pretty extensively. This has been great - it's gotten me much further than anything else has. The issue I have is with hotkeys and key combinations. It seems like there are times when focus is grabbed, either in the location bar or another UI element in the web browser, and the hotkey I define within SearchBar is ignored. I know I can click the buttons but I'm a bit of a keyboard freak. For example, I pull up my chrome history with CTRL-H, add bookmarks with CTRL-D, open a new website with CTRL-L. It would be great if I could jump into the SearchBar input box with a key combination that kind of overrides other keystroke listeners. I know the operating system gets a bit finicky about keystroke listeners, for obvious reasons. But if there is anything you know of that can kind of force focus to move to SearchBar with a keystroke, I'd love to hear it.

  Yes, the button, but I can't do that in Opera because it downloads from the Chrome webstore, not the Opera store so it doesn't show up on the list of extensions I can pin to the address bar. I have the SearchBar next to the address bar in Chrome and it sits there all the time and works perfectly. Since Opera is also built on Chromium, I was hoping to do the same, but I can't find a way to do that. It sits within the open tab's window only. Do you know if there's a setting I can change in the background that would put SearchBar back up next to the address bar? Under Options, I have the box checked for "Clear SearchBar when I go to a new page" -- but it doesn't work as I expect.
