A Bandcamp search tool

Image from store Camp Explorer
Description from store (previously known as Bandcamp Tag Search) -- THE BIG 2.0 UPDATE! -- Massively improved number of results and time it takes to return them! Bandcamp is a great place to find new and fascinating music. But you probably have an idea of your type of music so actually finding new things matching that taste is a bit tough. This tool helps you out by letting you search for different tags/genres/locations and finds albums that match all those criterias. USAGE Type in a tag, genre or location and press add. Repeat for all criterias you want to find albums for. Click the x to the right of the added search criteria to remove it. When you find an interesting album, click on it to jump to its page. Note that search criterias that have not been cached previously might take a while for the server to cache up. KNOWN ISSUES - It isn't possible to get all albums from Bandcamp so some albums might be missing. WEBPAGE Also available as a webpage at www.campexplorer.io SOURCE Code is available at https://github.com/SvDvorak/CampExplorer RELEASE NOTES 2.0.0 - Improved number of results returned by up to 10x - Instantaneous results for previously searched tags - Changed app logo - Changed name from Bandcamp Tag Search to Camp Explorer - Added logo and title in popup - Added release notes in app - Added app review question 1.0.4 - Minor fix in preparation for larger update 1.0.3 - Fixed rare error when having multiple tags 1.0.2 - Changed Bandcamp throttling message. 1.0.1 - Fixed app not handling 503 (Service unavailable) errors which occurs when searching Bandcamp too often. App now retries multiple times with a longer timeout for each try. A graphical icon next to the search spinner indicates when this is happening. 1.0.0 - Initial release

  • (2021-03-19) Valentin Blanchard: Works perfectly in 2.0, at least with my tags. Thank you for your work!
  • (2018-03-02) Christoffer Brobäck: i'm experience the same thing as shawn stnicky, though i think i might give an example; to progress further development. i put in "mannheim" and "power electronics" only one ressult "https://tescogermany.bandcamp.com/album/position-parall-le" shows up, the label that's located in manheim germany has many more realeases with does two taggs. for example: "https://tescogermany.bandcamp.com/album/manifest-as-teeraal-r-um-pheynix" and "https://tescogermany.bandcamp.com/album/mardr-md-d-dsstr-m" to just mention a few. theory: could it be so, that when you parse each tag for correlation, that you only get say 500+ results of each and well not all, and therefore some times when you look for something specific, simply wont find it with this app?
  • (2018-02-08) Moloko Plus: Hi, Andreas! The extension is really helpful and easy to use. Five stars definitely. I'd love a feature to exclude certain tags. For example, if I put in "grunge" tag I'd like to have possibility to exclude bands which have "stoner" or "sludge" alongside "grunge" in their tag set. And a sort by date feature would be cool too.
  • (2018-01-19) Jackson Keating: This is awesome. Would love a feature to sort by date. I think bandcamp might support this already so it might not be difficult. i.e. https://bandcamp.com/tag/rock?sort_field=date
  • (2017-11-27) Chung King: Doesn't work. I put in 2 tags.. it returns one search result and it's not what I wanted.
  • (2017-09-30) Joss S: Didn't return results for very common tags. I was able to find items with both tags whereas the extension could not.
  • (2017-06-01) Lidia M: You write two obvious tags together, and it doesn't work. Usage explanation is really bad "just type the words you want to use". But it doesn't work. And if you add comma separated tags, it doesn't work either. So tags with several words on them doesn't work.
  • (2016-08-29) Marcin Gorka: Seems useful, but search results are unreliable. For example, search for 'creative commons' with 'electronic' yields no results, while I have many positions in my library tagged with these two tags, so I know for a fact that they exist :) Creator's approach is commendable (bandcamp cataloguing and search SUCKS and we know it - anything that lets us search easier is great), but probably it's impossible to implement a reliable multi-tag search while bandcamp doesn't support it. [Edit], okay, so I was wrong on this one. Your search works okay - I've written my search tool in python, ant the results are the same as yours. The problem is, Bandcamp doesn't return all possible hits, just first 400 albums (not even creators...) (5*8*10) by date or popularity. Another thing Bandcamp did wrong when it comes to search... Changing my review from 3 to 5 stars.
  • (2016-07-28) Orson Chandler: Thank you so much for this!! Seriously how long will Bandcamp go on without implementing something like this.
  • (2016-07-01) Andrew Scallon: Nice little work around. Appreciate it.
  • (2016-02-24) Karan Raju: The app is good but it does not show all albums that I want. I got no results for "krautrock" and "ambient". The website has many bands with these two tags. (Eg. Poly, Germania, All is One)
  • (2016-02-18) Kim Åke: Super useful idea, but simply does not work, has trouble finding more than a few albums even when hundrerds are available with any given combination of tags.
  • (2016-01-21) Chris Vaughn: Isn't working. Just keeps showing {{ tagalbum.tag }} {{ album.name }} {{ album.artist }} Wont let me add any tags. Every time I try to add a tag it simply disappears when I hit enter
  • (2015-12-07) Daniel Brock: No idea why bandcamp doesn't already have this feature but I appreciate this extension so much. A few issues but it's cool, man.
