Websites like Foursquare and Yelp provide a wealth of information about restaurants, libraries, and everything in between. While this is great for trying out new places, most of the time we're just looking for answers to simple questions, such as:
- How late will X stay open today?
- How far away is X from my current location?
Open grabs only the most essential information needed for planning, without requiring users to navigate to external websites. Built in (but optional) geolocation provides users a extra convenient option for searching for local businesses.

- (2017-03-09) Rachel Petzinger: Such a cool idea! It's super convenient not to have to go through manually searching on Google to see if somewhere is open, and Open also lets you see how far multiple locations are to you - so much easier than needing to go through whatever locations come up.
- (2017-03-09) Connor Murphy: This extension is great! I like that I don't have to go all the way to a yelp page to find out if a place I am looking for is open. Plus, it has all the relevant info (address, phone number, hours for the week). I think the results should be ordered based on how close a place is to me, the geolocation takes a little longer than I would like, and when I put in a bad address it will continue to search forever, but I think with a few simple fixes this app will be perfect. Overall, I think the design is colorful, interesting, and excellent. The app is quite useful and saves me a few clicks, and ultimately time. It is easy to use and I highly recommend it.
