An extension for easily comparing news stories by different news sites
The NewsCompare extension allows you to easily compare news stories from different news websites--as well as non-news websites--about the same news topic. For example, if you are reading an article on cnn.com and want to know how foxnews.com is reporting the same story, you can click on the NewsCompare icon. When clicked, you will see a popup screen with a search bar open up. The search bar will automatically be filled out with the relevant search words based on the CNN article you were reading. Also on the popup screen is a group of 10 buttons representing 10 different news websites, one of which is foxnews.com. By clicking on the foxnews.com button, a new tab will open up, and it will contain the foxnews.com search results page based on the keywords in the extension's search bar. You can then select the most relevant result (typically the first one) and read the article to compare it to the CNN article.
The extension also has another function, which is optional to use. After performing a comparison of two articles, you might want to let others know about any differences you noticed between them. A companion website has been created at www.newscompare.net. It is a social posting site (similar to reddit.com) which allows users to post their comparisons for others to view, comment on, and evaluate (upvote or downvote). The other function of the NewsCompare extension is that it enables the user to easily submit a news comparison post to newscompare.net. The extension keeps track of the most recent article that was the basis of a search, and the article which was found as a result of the search. When the “Submit to NewsCompare.net” button is clicked, it takes the user to the submit page on NewsCompare.net, and it automatically fills in the web addresses of the two articles into the appropriate form on the page.
