Monitor chrome web browsing for inappropriate content.

Image from store Bark for Chrome
Description from store Bark for Chrome is installed on the child's Chrome browser to help protect the child against inappropriate content. Bark detects messages containing cyberbullying, sexting, signs of depression or suicidal thoughts, and many others -- without you having to spend hours reading your child's messages. Bark supports dozens of popular social media platforms, along with email, and text messaging. Children spend an increasing amount of time socializing online. Unfortunately, new technology creates new risks. Parents need a smarter solution to help keep their children safe online without sifting through their social media feed or randomly grabbing their child's phone and scrolling through their messages. You connect your children's accounts and we notify you if and when there's a potential issue. This approach helps to build trust and an open dialog with your family around internet safety. Testimonials: "My wife and i LOVE Bark - we’ve had some tough, but productive conversations with our 13 year old son. It’s proving to be extremely valuable." - Josh L. "Bark alerted us to a social media post my daughter sent that implied she was not where she had said she was, and that she and her friends had illegal drugs in our vehicle that she drives. With this information we were able to ask her about the activities that night and to talk to her about the risks of having illegal drugs in the car even if the drugs belonged to a friend. Although it was a difficult conversation and there are issues still to address, I'm grateful Bark alerted us to the messages so we could take action." - Trent "Bark notified me that my young daughter had unknowingly revealed her phone number to strangers on Twitter. The fact that bark.us notified me in realtime was impressive and led to an informative discussion with her the same day." - Jon B. "We had a couple notifications come through and we were thankful for those. It opened up a dialog with our son which was great." - Nicci C. "I wanted to say thank you. Bark is really providing me some peace of mind as a parent, and my kids appreciate the extra privacy I'm giving them." - Ray F.

  • (2023-12-02) Looking4Magic: I hate this. My bond with my parents is going lower by each step because of this stupid thing. I can't have any privacy, and this app puts you in a position where you are worried about hackers and other things like that. I feel uncomfortable asking my friends to text me when they have problems, because their personal lives can be read by my parents. They keep telling me they don't look at the alerts, and yet I can feel our relationship severing. This app is a complete joke, and I can't wait to get away from my overly-invasive parents, and this overly-invasive app. This is ruining my childhood.
  • (2023-08-05) Flash crashz (AMOGUS EHHEHE): super bad to be honest
  • (2023-07-05) pink cookies: this does not monitor really anything maybe bc norton family blocked it
  • (2023-06-23) Spider1i1y: I know I'm gonna sound like every other teenager on this app, but this sucks. I had this on my phone and after a week it was lagging. I kept restarting it, fixing my internet, it was just bark itself. It's basically a whole virus that takes over your device. Bark doesn't just monitor "sexual" material like p**n it also monitors what is considered "cyber bullying." Why should bark tell my mom that I told my bsf "Loser" or anything like that. The cyber bullying images that are shown on the Barks' website are just stupid. I have friends vent to me and I don't need some virus to notify my mother about it so she can read it too. They're my friends, not my mothers. I feel bad when I have to tell my friends that they can't vent to me because some app is going to send it to my nosy mother. This app made me lose all trust with my parents.
  • (2023-06-19) Vlad: (1. Go into your settings, and disable bark VPN (2. Use Opera GX, it's the only browser bark cant detect on all platforms (3. Always use incognito, it will help block account association tracking (4. Your welcome.
  • (2023-06-18) Sir-Freddy: Hey look at that! Another spyware extension with the exact same problems as Securly!
  • (2023-06-06) Seth Pyle: every time bark is on my phone it runs slower sometimes the internet doesnt even work and apps wont launch
  • (2023-05-04) Zaire Williams (Glitchy): An invasion of privacy, I am also extremally disappointed that my mom had to put this on here. this just shows their child that their parents don't trust them with google or any other website or app. I had found this extension because I had seen it, because I was trying to get some Roblox web extensions. The only thing this shows kids is that their parents don't trust them. this doesn't teach kids any lesson, or tell them to be safer, (okay just a little bit.) it shows them that their parents doesn't care about their privacy and if younger kids can comprehend this, then that means that they will think that they don't have to care for others privacy. This can also ruin relationships with kids and parents. 0/10 app, would NEVER recommend to anybody.
  • (2023-05-04) Ona S.: pointless and ruined my relationship with my parents. seriously what is the purpose of this?
  • (2023-04-27) Cs: Bark is a virus. Straight as that. While is provides somewhat of an insider to what a child may be doing online its methods are to have unwanted access to accounts and devices. The safety features flaunted by Bark is all just a trojan horse for personal information, records, and much more to be put at risk from attackers or be maliciously extracted by those who authored Bark. Another issue to Bark is its flagging feature which flags common phrases that could be used in multiple contexts. This extension is invasive and does not do what it is advertised to do. It does not keep children safe. It does not guarantee a safer environment. All it is is a company nobody even in the tech world has heard of that is trying to market towards exploitable customers, parents/school administrators. Under no circumstances should this ever be used by businesses or even government entities/agencies.
  • (2023-04-25) Felix Sundwall: This may sound petty, but, I had full axes to everything on my chrome book, and I had full privacy, but now I can't even talk to my Bf because of it! on top of that I can't use my phone for the same damn reason. my computer is very slow now and takes forever to load; I wish that this app never existed. If I could, I'd give this a one star review. and to all parents, please just trust your child, if you think they are going to do something stupid, then let them! they need to make mistakes to grow up, but they also need there freedom and privacy. this app has made me grow distant from my mother and puts me in a state of Anxiety all the time fearing that she is going to fined something on my phone that she deems "inappropriate" so parents, please don't do this to your child, it's only going to make things worse....trust me...
  • (2023-03-14) Connor: You may think that this is a petty review from a teenager who thinks they know everything, and you might be right. However, you could also be wrong. I barely had this app for a day, and my phone already doesn't work. It broke my whole phone down to where I couldn't even talk to my friends or text anyone without having to wait about 1 to 3 hours before having my message either being or not delivered. I also couldn't use the majority of my apps because they were stuck loading forever. It got so bad to where I am having to go to my computer to do things I should be able to do on my phone. Before I got bark, my phone was very responsive and fast, however after it was significantly slow. Their website claims that their app "only slows down internet speeds in minor ways". This is not true whatsoever. I should also add that setting up bark is an over-excessive pain. Their customer service was also unresponsive. They should not charge the amount that they do for a shabby app.
  • (2023-03-04) Sofia Rolong: Ok so, my parents put Bark on my Chromebook and it really just made grow apart from my parents. I understand that this is just trying to keep me safe, but it will flag the stupidest little things ever! Also I can't go on any websites now like Amazon. It's so dumb! Now I'm just afraid to talk to my friends because my parents can see every little thing that is flagged. Also if I'm on a group chat with one person that I don't have saved in my contacts it flags it, I might have just not saved them, this app/extension is also making my Chromebook work way slower. This gives me ZERO PRIVACY with my parents, like some things I just DON'T want to share with them. I don't feel ok with my parents looking at everything I search/watch/post. It also can see what you search in incognito mode. I'm not so sure I'm right about this but... I don't think it matters what device you're on, as long as you linked the account you're using right then, it can flag what you see. Thank you for reading this, have a great day/night.
  • (2023-01-12) Awesomdood: To be honest, this app isn't as horrible as people in the reviews say. I've never experienced any kind of hack or glitch that was caused by this, and i've had this for about 6-7 years tops. I do believe that this app isn't the best, though. It's good when you write down the idea on a sheet of paper, but the app is not a very good program in general. The app is trigger happy, and most people feel like they don't have privacy from using it on personal devices. I do want to say, I've never felt any disruption in my privacy, since this was never used on any of my personal devices. I do think that some problems with this app could be fixed easily, though, but I'm not absolutely sure they can work or be coded easily. But one big thing about this app that I despise... THE REVIEWS. I do think that a couple of 1 star reviews are actually reliable, but any other reviews don't feel helpful in any kind of way. Some of these reviews are kids whining about "ME PARENTS WATCH AND ME NO LIKE THAT' or "APP GAVE ME VIRUS DON'T DOWNLOAD," but to be honest, those reviews are getting annoying, since I have gotten no kind of virus out of using this program, and I haven't made my parents breathe down my neck just to see what I'm looking up. (I'm not a saint, btw.) If people did get a virus, It might have not been bark that's been the source of the virus. I've also seen people complain about "SCHOOL DOWNLOAD THIS AND ME NO LIKE" I mean, the school devices are still school property... They don't want you to look up anything that's suggestive. Overall, I think this app is survivable, but could use some changes.
  • (2023-01-06) dominic: CRINGE It does nothing
  • (2022-12-16) Lucas Wing: its terrible schools should not use it
  • (2022-12-08) Trixx: it not good
  • (2022-10-27) Elijah Quiles: IT IS TRASH
  • (2022-09-16) Baradeva Raditya: No bugs, No Lagging, No Virus And My Chromebook Its Okay.
  • (2022-06-08) ash von: this is the worst app tha tcould exist on the market along with life 360, its horrible most teens cant even have a conversation with their friends without it being marked as violence and such it wont even let you swear which is pretty terrible for an app designed for pre-teens and actual teenagers. parents if you want a good relationship with your kid do NOT GET THIS APP!!!! IT WILL ONLY WORSEN YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH THEM
  • (2022-02-17) Mahit Setty: Nobody likes bark, whoever made it should go expose their search history and I bet it's worse than ours
  • (2022-01-05) Dani P: Very buggy and took up a lot of space. Gave my computer a virus and it loaded slower.
  • (2021-12-29) Chloe Ashley: This is the worst possible extension to exist. This should be removed. I understand schools using this but the thing is that you get ZERO PRIVACY. Parents also use this. This can be helpful BUT you should be able to trust your child. Using this extension as a parent to secretly watch your child is a VERY bad idea. I say this because it make your child try to hide things from you. They will end up not trusting you. I swear that some people need to respect their children's privacy. Like I said earlier, this should be DELETED IMMEADENTLY, along with any other Bark extensions.
  • (2021-12-12) Owen Early: cringe beta app 0 stars would not recommend
  • (2021-11-09) Robbie Stracham: This is not a safe extension, gave me a virus. Do not install on your chromebook.
  • (2021-09-10) Marco Favuzza: This app gave me and my whole school a virus!!! *DON'T* download it because you'll regret it very soon after...
  • (2021-08-17) Kazoo Kid: Personally I didn't like it when it was mentioned to me in the beginning. I have a series of online friends who also agree with me that this extension is suspect, because it has been messing with my devices. I was using discord, talking to someone on the phone when Bark forcibly shut down Discord, and it wouldn't let me send / receive messages from anyone. Same thing with just normal messaging. I happened to be on the phone with someone when I opened the Bark app and it said it would start "screen casting" my information, and it even specified "passwords, bank information, social media, emails, account info" etc or whatever it was. But it's not safe, and I'm pretty sure it's wired with some sort of virus intentions.
  • (2021-08-01) Tamie Naranjo: So... Back when I was a fifth grader, my school decided to put this on my school account, which I was like, "Oh, just a harmless little extension to monitor me," but I was wrong. I was watching some Apex Legends videos on Youtube, and ended up getting flagged for violence.Nothing is personal for me anymore, and I feel like I always have a bootleg developer watching me. I am so insecure, I have even put tape over my webcam. I do, in fact understand that the school wants to make sure I'm not doing anything wrong, and I was fine with that, up until it glue itself to my personal email. I don't know how it got there, but now I can't do anything anymore because I can't research stuff due to restrictions, can't play games, watch videos on Youtube, or even send texts or messages without getting flagged. My PC AND LAPTOP got bricked because of viruses caused by this retarded program. - A Boiling 6th Grader
  • (2021-07-05) Nia Wright-Cason: This is garbage. I am an 8 yr old and bark gave a whole school a virus. No privacy!!!
  • (2021-05-24) Kai Fishburn: It works to monitor me and my sister, and even though it's not my favorite thing I still respect Bark's developers for keeping me safe.
  • (2021-05-21) Daniel Grant: ITS HAKING ME
  • (2021-05-19) WandaBro5: THE worst app you can ever get it got me in trouble at school for the dumbest stuff AND it blocks stuff that is not even bad
  • (2021-05-17) Moeve: This App is the worse thing to happen to me in a long time. My parents put this on my device & linked all my stuff. This has absolutely ruined my social life.I had friends that I can't even talk to anymore because of this apps stupid restrictions. My parents treat me like a five year old who doesn't know how to make his own decisions. I'm 15 nearly 16 and they're just now deciding to get this app right as I have an actual social life. God, I've never hated my parents more. If any parents are reading this. Find a better way. No kid or teenager is gonna be okay with you just accessing everything they have. Don't treat your kids like belongings. They aren't just people that live in your house for you to tell what to do. This app will ruin any relationship you may have with your kids. I hate my parents now and can just never work up the gut to say it to their face. The only reason I haven't just left the house is because I can't drive yet. Screw this app. It's an invasion of privacy and any parent who gets this is a terrible parent who would rather know everything their kid is doing than just teaching them better.
  • (2021-05-01) McSnoodelz Boodles: poo
  • (2021-04-08) YES YES NO NO NO fine: this app sucks
  • (2021-03-30) Sara m: ok so i don't have bark, but my parents got it for my phone and i HATE what it's done. like literally anything REMOTELY questionable gets "flagged". and even if it's not questionable. like it flagged like ABREVIATIONS for cuss words or phrases. like wt... and Lm... like honestly. Now i guess in some senses it's made me smarter, but im not really sure that's a good thing. like i still talk about the same stuff, its just iv'e taken those conversations off screen/devices/the internet. it's annoying because there are a ton of funny things, nonharmful, not offensive, not necessarily pg or clean things that i can't say/pin/post/look up anymore. at best bark is annoying, and at worst, it...its even more annoying is the most i can say without gettting "flagged"
  • (2021-03-30) Amelia Hawthorne: people are upset about this app but all its really trying to do is keep you safe i just wish that it would give me more privacy! i understand that its trying to keep me safe but sometimes it freaks over the littlest of things! other then that i understand that the app wants to help us and that okay but i just wanna do my own thing! i'm not going on bad website or anything so can bark CHILL? i feel like everything i do is being watched thats all im trying to say
  • (2021-03-22) Peashu Fatso: it says it only alerts ur parents if u do something "bad". that means its actually watching u and ur privacy is out the window. it doesn't even deserve 1 star, it deserves 0! ur parents wanna keep you safe but reading emails and search history, even what u watch on youtube is a horrible invasion of privacy. i mean, what do ur parents thing ur gonna do, watch pc0r4n?? ur probably gonna watch a Minecraft video or something. this makes me feel like my parents don't trust me and think im dumb. pls remove it from the chrome web store. thx :D
  • (2021-03-16) Maya: This app is absolutely horrible! Do I really need to say what is wrong with this? Look at all the other comments! SHUT THIS EXTENSION DOWN!
  • (2021-03-16) outdoor people: this has actually broken my phone I don't have any mobile data even when the settings were flipped to give it back to me through bark. Im 14 and my stepdad installed it on my phone to see if im doing anything ileagle outside of the house aside from it doing its job it has broken the devices that it has been put on dont use
  • (2021-03-08) Jotaro Kujo: If I do anything it goes off for everything I do. I was watching a video about a Roblox fighting game and it went off saying it was violent. It reported a video as "Sexual Content" for a joke. I said the word depressing to my friend and it went off for "Suicidal thoughts".
  • (2021-03-05) Caty S.: My mother installed this whole thing when I was 15, and I still have it installed on my devices despite the fact that I am almost a legal adult. I get the idea, I really do. But this app completely destroyed my trust in my mom for a while. She tried to install it secretly (one of the perks of being tech savvy is a know when something is up with my phone), and pretended not to know anything about it when I brought it up. I have friends with severe mental illnesses, and they come to me sometimes for support. Since I've had this installed it feels wrong to let my friends talk to me because I know that my mother will end up seeing it. I feel like I have to watch everything I do, because I don't know what gets "flagged". I talked with my therapist about it and even she thinks it's a bit excessive. I get parent's concern with safety online, but there are better ways to do it.
  • (2021-02-26) Tyler Durgy: My school downloaded this onto my computer without my consent (making it spyware btw) and now everything I do gets sent to my parents and I did not even notice until my parents got mad at me for "not doing my work" even though I did. Now I am afraid to talk to my friends online because this thing takes screen shots of my activity.
  • (2021-02-26) Patrick Tiger Wang: Really bad, doesn't allow kids to do anything.
  • (2021-02-16) FLAMING OCTO BLOB: I have read a ton of the comments and can understand what these people are coming from. they have every reason to be mad and disappointed in there parents. that does not make the app totally unless though. in my situation, my parents have a problem with trust regarding to being on the computer when i'm in school and i'm going through a difficult time with them. I think that monitoring my online activity will help resolve an otherwise unresolvable situation. you may continue to hate on this app, but only if you had a bad experience with it yourself. And Medziaga, please try to understand the situation from others point of view before judging them for thier need to share thier experiences and make it so no one has to go through it themselves. you are probably just some helicopter parent yourself and from now on you shall be known as Karen. THE E-KARENS HAVE RISEN. GRAB YOUR CHILDREN AND GET TO CANADA, WERE EVERYONE IS NICER
  • (2021-02-10) Itsumi {The Fourth Follower}: I read through a couple of the reviews, and my problem is simple: I have to go to the desktop to download/install it for it to work on mobile, and yet it still doesn't allow me to scroll Google without breaking itself every tap and swipe. I understand that these reviews are mainly from school-enforced downloads, but I just want it to work and not have a nervous breakdown every new pixel it generates.
  • (2021-02-03) Levi Hughes: App is broken and doesn't work well it mis represents itself and doesn't help me as a parent at all.
  • (2021-01-21) justin fiallo: The extension is invading our privacy. Isn't there a human right about this or something. As well as there's a virus that comes with it. Also it has reported to sell your information while using extension.
  • (2021-01-11) Snowy: Its super bad and should not exist all it does is take up your space and gives you a virus my school removed it because it gave all the computers a virus it should be removed from the web completely do not download this it gives away all your information
  • (2021-01-02) Kayleigh Brigola: To all the parents calling us immature children: Oh please, We all have our own opinions and so do you. Just as we are sharing ours, you are as well. Our feelings are still valid even though we are still kids. The Parental restrictions on this app are insane and are invading my privacy, causing my mental health to suffer. Parents just need to learn the word "privacy" and we would be golden. I don't want my mom reading all of my private convos because they are PRIVATE. Private convos should stay private. You just need to let your kid know that if they ever feel uncomfortable with something on the internet then they should come and tell you. You shouldn't rely on some (sorry to say) easily hackable app to tell you more than what your kid is comfortable with you knowing. And, To be honest, If they aren't uncomfortable with it why does it matter. We are WAY more tech savvy than you probably are and we do find ways around it. Chances are, if you talk to your kid about something that the app notified you about then i will probably drive a wedge in your relationship with your kid. If your kid's message is flagged as "depression" and their talking about their mental health to someone who is really listening then please leave it alone. They will only stop taking to the person that they were relying on and their mental health could get even worse by not having an outlet. Well, That concludes my rant I know that it was really long but I feel like it had to be said. I am speaking from my experience and my experience only so please don't tell me "Well my kid, bill, feels much safer now" or " My daughter, Emma, was really grateful". Thank you for your time. (I hope this message isn't going to be flagged... I tried really hard to use non-triggering words)
