Jailbreak the Patriarchy genderswaps the world for you. When it's installed, everything you read in Chrome (except for gmail, so far) loads with pronouns and a reasonably thorough set of other gendered words swapped. For example: "he loved his mother very much" would read as "she loved her father very much", "the patriarchy also hurts men" would read as "the matriarchy also hurts women", that sort of thing.
This makes reading stuff on the internet a pretty fascinating and eye-opening experience, I must say. What would the world be like if we reversed the way we speak about women and men? Well, now you can find out!

Running this extension will not trap you outside the asylum. When you install Jailbreak the Patriarchy, you'll see that there's a new button in the top right corner of your browser. When you click that button, it basically toggles the patriarchy. If Jailbreak the Patriarchy is active when you click, it pauses the extension and reloads your current tab back into reality. If the extension is already paused when you click the button, it unpauses the extension and reloads your current tab back into genderswapped-land.
It's easy to tell when the extension is paused, because the button in the browser will get a big red OFF tag.
Just to be clear, only your current tab will reload automatically, but the pause/unpause is browser-wide and persists until you toggle the button again.

UPDATE: As of version 1.0.2, you can go into your extensions and click on 'Options' near Jailbreak if you want to set Jailbreak to turn itself on and off randomly once per day. This will only happen if you go out of your way to turn that option on - by default, you are in complete control and Jailbreak will never turn on unless you click the button. But for those of you who want more random confusion in your lives, the option is now there!

Ran 3 penetration tests on it and boy oh boy; not sure how Google even let this one slip through.

- (2014-01-21) Andrew Persaud: Very interesting extension. The occasional grammar bug slips through on occasion, but it's excellent anyways. It's very cool to read the new or fiction and see how things can seem so very different with a small tweak. Would like to see a few grammar rule adjustments and some additional changes (genital references and such, for additional immersion), but it's already great. Just be sure to turn it off when you're doing something important like research or professional communication; that can get confusing or awkward.

But the best gems I've gotten so far are when I forget it's on and I'm reading things that have nothing to do with gender, or people really. Shopping for computers: Fatherboard. Ubuntu documentation: woman pages ("man pages" short for user's manual). I downloaded it truly as an attempt to keep an open mind while reading news articles, but it's now a permanent quirky addition to my browser!
- (2013-03-16) Liz Fuller-Wright: This is great if you only passively receive text from the web, but if you're creating anything -- emails, blog entries, reviews like this one, etc -- it's a nightmare. Half my recent emails and blog entries put female pronouns with male names, change the gender of my spouse, or otherwise make me look like an idiot. I can't uninstall it soon enough!

- (2013-01-30) Jenny Zonka: BEWARE -- this app will genderswap your emails too! I installed this last night and found it entertaining and illuminating. Then, this morning, I sent an email to a college admissions officer that started with "Dear Ms..." Imagine my surprise (and horror) when I looked at the email on another computer and saw that it got sent out as "Dear Mr..." Seriously, WTF. This really needs to be fixed.

It can be very confusing if you forget about it (and shows like Girls become a lot harder to find on the internet...) but really makes you think about things differently - it makes gender equality a visible reality, thereby highlighting how ridiculous it is that we have yet to achieve it.
