This extension provides easy to use privacy options for managing referer headers.
This extension provides easy to use privacy options for managing referer headers.
Referer headers can be used to track which website originally led you to the current page. For example, if you click on a link on Google, the website it links to is able to see that you came from Google. Some website owners use this for statistics tracking or hotlinking protection. However, it could also be used to fingerprint users.
This extension allows you to scrub your referer headers so it appears as if you just opened that page by directly typing in the address into the address bar.
Features:
- Whitelisting options for every site
- Scrubs document.referer so the referer can't be obtained via Javascript.
- Workaround for websites that employ hotlinking protection that reveals the absolute minimum of information for content to load correctly.
- Option to only allow referers to be sent over a secure connection.
For more information on the referer header, see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTTP_referer
