Some websites have disallowed scrolling or other ways to work around this, but it really isn't the extension's fault so still a solid 5 stars.

• (2023-04-20) Mr. Lance E Sloan: I just installed this because I noticed anti-ad-block overlays on weather.com. So far, I like it. Using AdblockPlus (ABP), I could easily block the overlays, but it doesn't handle the problem of re-enabling page scrolling. This extension does that. I ended up removing the element-hiding rules I'd created with ABP and I use this extension's shortcut key to activate it. The only thing that could be better would be for this extension to be called as part of a ABP rule, for this extension to automatically act on certain specified websites, or to prompt the user if overlays are detected.

• (2022-09-11) Eric Henson: Love it! Bound it to a hotkey to quick-close obnoxious overlays begging to sign up for their newsletters or whatever. The detection isn't perfect, but I'd say it works on 90% of the overlays I commonly come across, and it even fixes scrolling.

• (2021-10-14) Tim Brown: Used to work fantastically on news sites that ask you to sign up or pay to continue reading the article. It seems like most of them have caught on, as activating the extension now removes the popup but disables scrolling.
• (2021-09-28) visionthing03: I'd give it more stars if I could. I've been using BTO for years and it works. I don't bother with shortcuts. When I have an overlay I just click the puzzle icon on the right top corner of my browser, scroll to BTO and click and voila! The overlay is gone. This is a great extension that I couldn't live without.

• (2021-07-26) Gavin The Crafter: Works well on most sites, sometimes though the overlays will also disable scrolling so I can't actually view the whole webpage. Would be nice if it could enable that too.
• (2021-07-20) VISHU 296: Always helps removes annoying pop ups that want you to sign into the website or something. It obviously won't work 100% of the time because some websites disable scrolling, some don't even load the things behind the overlay and sometimes they make it hidden overlays which this doesn't work with. But this still saves me tons of time when working or just casually surfing the web. It can even take away those "Disable your adblock" overlays which is also useful. Overall, a very useful extension.

I have to keep clicking on it every thirty seconds or so. It's still better than the insane number of ads on these sites, but it doesn't work as I'd hoped and as advertised.

(Especially the super snarky ones "No thanks, I don't like saving money" or whatever they say.) I am legimitely depressed with the amount of popups on the internet and the fact that every website tries to slow you down as much as possible, I feel like it's already one step closer to an augmented reality hell. So thank you for this amazing tool!

It is a true shame that Google buries this, and many other, very good extensions. If you type "Behind the Overlay", Google's Chrome Store won't show this extension, but all kinds of other extensions. It was driving me crazy, trying to find this extension that I used on another computer. I knew it was "Behind the Overlay", but I didn't remember the name was without spaces. I had to search online, outside the Chrome Store to find the extension, and see it was the name just without spaces. You could never find this, and many others, unless you type the exact name. This is disgusting behavior, but not surprising because Google is a criminal organization, after all.

  Can it be that the extension has the keyboard shortcut cmd+shift+x hardcoded? I need this shortcut to strike through text in google docs and couldn't find any settings for the extension.

  I hate having to log in to Instagram, especially to view things that might mess up my account algorithm. I used to be able to use this extension to remove the login overlay on instagram but it's not working any longer.

  Hi there, The extension "Behind the Overlay" is very useful extension for me. Although, I would like to suggest something about its icon. It's very squary and doesn't look that professional. People when see this extension on my browser, their first impression is that it's related to something dirty (If you know what I mean). So, I would be glad if you re-design the icon of the extension. Again, it's up to you, and I'll always use it because of its usefulness.

  Hi, I am really a stanger to the terminology, so excuse me if the term is incorrect. I was wondering if this extension should not also work for sites with partial overlay, sticky banner that promps subscription paywalls. ie any article in https://www.elconfidencial.com/ )just load any article and scroll down until its prompted. Right now I have to inspect the banner thingy and in the console find the box and delete manually plus enable overflow manually. It would be great if this could remove these annoying content blocker stuff. Anyhow it works great on full overlays, Awesome and thanks a lot. Ramon
