Ever run into situations where you have lots of tabs open and you realize you have some of them open multiple times? If then you felt the need to close duplicate instances of that tab, help is at hand!
Close Duplicate Tab does exactly what its name says - it identifies URLs which are open in multiple tabs, and closes all instances retaining one. It also is smart enough to detect if you are on one of those duplicate tabs, and closes the other ones so you can continue doing what you are.
Coming soon: keyboard shortcut, auto close, limit to current window, group top domains in single window etc. Suggest more features!

- (2024-02-05) Kamina Jiha: Light, practical, almost perfect. The only suggestion I make is to implement the functionality to manually close duplicate tabs, by displaying a list, simmilar to "Duplicate tabs closer" and "Clutter free".

- (2023-05-31) Delta Squared: I like the simplicity of this. I have made a key binding in chrome settings to activate the extension with ctrl-alt-x. I just wish there was an option for it to only work with the current window instead of globally.

Ay: The only problem is the badge is broken because it uses the function "chrome.runtime.onInstalled.addListener" which means it will only work properly after the first install or after an update. It will stop working once you close the browser and open it back up again. For that you need "chrome.runtime.onStartup.addListener".

- (2018-09-20) Saroj Khatiwada: In the latest google chrome (v 69.xxx) with material theme, the icon looks bland with no coloring at all; just plain gray. There is no indication of duplicate tabs whatsoever. Please test and adjust. Thanks.

- (2018-06-25) Michael Ryan: The badge color is absolutely horrible. White text on a bright lime green background?!? You might as well make it white-on-yellow or white-on-white, and it would be as useful. Also, the duplicate count seems to be wrong most of the time. And the badge shows the same number in all windows, even those without duplicates. Clicking the button in a window with duplicates will remove duplicates in that window and clear the badge count in all windows, even though other windows still have duplicates. This extension needs to be tested more.

- (2015-12-13) Francesco Servilio: Very useful. However, sometimes it states there are duplicate tabs (the counter tells 1 or 2), but there are not; and if I click the button to close those tabs, it doesn't close anything (as there is nothing to close) and the counter does not reset.
