Description from extension meta

Delay is used to break habitual browsing, by having the moment to reflect you'll decide if you want to navigate to the website.

Image from store Delay
Description from store Identify and remove the habits that have you unintentionally opening websites. Create a list of URL's and they will have a delay before the websites displayed. The delay enables you to recognize you've opened a certain URL and gives you time to to acknowledge a typically unconscious decision. Each time you both navigate to a blacklisted URL and wait for the delay to resolve it will save an event. These can be viewed in a chart which will compare how many times you navigated vs how many times you let the delay load. This way you can visualise how many times you halted that habit and delay rescued some time! Updates 3.0 - Delay Page will show the Desired URL appended at the back of its own URL - You can enable Incrementing Delay Time. Each time you navigate to a Blacklisted page the Delay time will increase by 1 second. This resets every day. Bug Fixes: - Cursor behavior over buttons - Some navigation events were not triggering the delay - Depending on your timezone some events could be logged a day early or late - Graph has been reduced to a max of 6 months. 2.4 Bulk Block, add a list of comma seperated URLS 2.3 Right clicking and selecting 'Open in new Tab' will now delay the tab. You will have to select it for the delay to initiate. Theres no max delay time you can set it as high as you'd like. Y-Axis will be a whole number, no more decimals. 2.2 When you navigate to a page but don't let it load for the first time within a day, loaded is given a initial value of 0 so it shows on the graph 2.1 - Tab has to be in focus for the countdown to continue, stops you opening multiple tabs 2.0 - The recent release removes all existing navigation events. But what it allows going foward is a much smaller data set this means we have been able to enable: - synchronization across browsers once you login using your gmail - ability to work in incognito as well Feedback If you have any feedback, comment on the following thread: https://github.com/richardroy/delay/issues/48

  • (2023-02-24) Matas Skucas: This is doing exactly what I need it to, unfortunately I am weak willed, and sometimes go to turn it off if I have an hour to kill so I can watch YouTube, since I use this app to completely block me off from it. The only issue is that when I go to turn it off, if I go to extensions and click on delay to open the control window, it doesn't open. Not exactly sure what the issue is, may be user error, but I have to reinstall in order to be able to access it again. This is actually a positive since I am forced to not watch YouTube, but can be a hassle on certain occasions. Otherwise great app, works great, looks great, does what it needs to do!
  • (2022-07-06) Tyler Laprade: There are similar options that are less buggy. I love the functionality, but after the page load, there's a second reload that brings me back to the original page I was waiting for, even if I already navigated away. Very jarring and potentially dangerous, as it could end up marking a message as read and then sending me elsewhere without reading it.
  • (2022-05-09) Pavel Ermakov: Thank you! The must-have extension for calm mind and productivity!
  • (2021-04-19) Sybrand Noordzij: Delay only works on going to site. Not when navigating through site. When you go to youtube it delays, but then if you click a video, there is no delay anymore. That is annoying as I want a tool to prevent binge-watching
  • (2021-03-17) Regis Lux: Thank you! Exactly what I needed, perfectly executed
  • (2021-01-05) Vineet: Great extension helped me a lot . It would have been better if you could see a message which you wanted to see when you opened a website that you had added to the delay list for example if while adding www.youtube.com to the delay list i could write a message like " don't waste time here " and next time i visited youtube.com i could see the message that i typed . Anyway Thanks for making this
  • (2020-11-27) Space Clottey: really good but would be better if it reset the timer if you leave the tab during the delay, like this extension does :) https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/crackbook-revival/fakedinbmdjifniaepnfbplcheaecebc
  • (2020-11-18) sujith padaru: This has really helped me stay away from few websites, It would be a great feature, if I could have custom message for each site as I am waiting to open the site.
  • (2020-11-15) Sander Visser: I removed it and went for a different extension. Initially, I thought it did the trick for me, but unfortunately I was able to circumvent the block by going to previously watched videos, and I could wait for multiple tabs to load through the waiting time. I found a different extension that really puts me in my place. I did like the metrics though, and miss that on other extensions
  • (2020-07-18) Arham Jain: Pretty good and well designed, but it doesn't work properly in incognito mode (even after enabling it in incognito). It would be perfect if it worked there as well!
  • (2020-03-01) Alexander Krylov: Great idea! But it needs some improvements 1) Button for toggle on/off extension quickly – when user don't work on a task he doesn't need to have his favorite sites being delayed, but always deleting/adding this sites to the list is a waste of time 2) Timer of the delay – it should be shown on the delaying page

  • (2022-07-01, v:0.3.0) Tyler Laprade: Double page load
Hi, I love this extension. However, after I am done waiting for a page to load, it reloads a few seconds later. If I already navigated within the page, it will send me back to the original page I was waiting for.
  • (2022-02-01, v:0.3.0) edwin: Not Working Anymore
Hi, your extension really helped my productivity. However, as of the last update, it doesn't work anymore. I have youtube.com on my delay list for 10 seconds, however after visiting the site and waiting >1 minute, I never get redirected to youtube and the delay background stays there. Same for reddit.com. To visit these sites, I have to disable the extension, which temps me to keep the extension disabled. I'd hate to leave a negative review when the extension been working perfectly for me up until this point.
  • (2021-09-05, v:0.2.3) Sir Dancealot: Google Search
Great Extension! A suggestion to improve it would be to also make it applicable for subsequent Google searches, so that every new search is delayed as well. The background is that this provides additional time to other applications like filtering
  • (2021-02-15, v:0.2.01) Luke Raskopf: Fix graph to plot zero, not extrapolate
Hi, huge fan of Delay--thank you for making this thing! It helps me quite a lot as I struggle with tech addiction. I'd really like to have the graph reflect the days on which I don't visit any of my blacklisted sites. Currently, it doesn't plot a "0" and instead just extrapolates the curve; so it looks like my habits are not changing, when in fact they are! I'd love for this to change; no idea how hard it is, but do you think you could make that fix? Thanks so much from a real fan, Luke
