RiddR, pronounced as /ˈ𝗿𝗶ː𝗱ə/ (reader) is a Google chrome extension that converts any selected text to speech. Powered by the legendary 𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗸𝗜𝘁! TTS engine and by using state of the art artificial intelligence technologies, RiddR offers the most authentic human-like voices on the market for 𝗙𝗥𝗘𝗘. Combined with its easy to use interface you’re one click away of converting your favorite e-books, online news, documents and any other form of text into speech in more than 50 languages, so you no longer need to read.

Built-in into RiddR core is 𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗸𝗜𝘁!, an TTS engine which offers 50+ languages with built- in automatic language detection (https://riddr.com/faq/supported-languages), which allows you to switch between multiple languages without any hassle. Riddr also has deep integration with your favorite browser which will allow you to interact with native, remote or 3rd party TTS engines, that are already available on your PC or Mac.

Riddr can read text from everywhere on the web. Read your emails, Google Drive or PDF documents before you send them. You can use Riddr to read your favorite news websites, blogs like Medium or perhaps e-books, on a daily basis, unlimited, for free. If you can see it, Riddr probably can read it, so how you use it it’s up to your imagination.

Read all the time, even if you have connectivity issues or you’re in a remote rural area. Riddr’s offline mode makes it the ideal language learning tool for schools and teachers in developing countries.

One of Riddr’s unique features besides predefined control shortcuts like: Read (𝗔𝗹𝘁+𝗥), Pause (𝗔𝗹𝘁+𝗣), Stop (𝗔𝗹𝘁+𝗦) is the ability to have multiple keyboard shortcuts linked to different TTS Engines / voices in different languages, which makes Riddr not only easy to use but also very fun. New shortcuts can be added and configured very easily via the options panel.

The easy to use options panel gives you huge control over your Riddr extension and gives you the ability to add your personal touch to it. Here is a list of some of the options available:
- Customise your volume level, speaking rate & voice pitch;
- Predefine your preferred language;
- Transcribe a list of words and how you want them to be pronounced (ideal for teachers and students safety);
- Enable auto selection mode, when turned on automatically extracts the readable text from the website and reads it for you;
- Automatic read option, which allows website owners to define which content to be read when someone enters their website, with this feature turned on. Very helpful for people with visual difficulties.

- (2025-03-07) 2025 update: At first I had trouble finding the extension, as the developer decided to rebrand it. Instead of SpeakIt it is called Riddr now, I liked Speakit better (just the name). SpeakIt was buggy occasionally, but I got used to it and worked just fine for me. However Riddr is 10x improvement over the old extension, the speaking dont interupts as before, simplified UI, I love the ability pick paragraph to be read by clicking on it <3 And the options page, oh god, custom shortcuts is that I waited for! P.S. the controls pause/start work from my airpods

- (2023-09-18) Gladys Otero Santamarina: I highlighted a three line parragraph and it only converted to speech a single sentence. It even stopped after finishing it. Tried highlighting other pieces of text but the same happened. Very cool idea and nice speech voice, but this issue makes it unusable.

The Google UK English Male voice was very clear and had high quality, but ever since last night, this voice has been very unclear and has low quality. I liked it when it was clear with high quality.
