Description from store Release Note: The issue with the latest update asking for access to your browsing history has been resolved. RPT didn't need or use your browser history. I had something enabled that I didn't need. Oops. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Reddit Pro Tools identifies trolls and propaganda on Reddit. How does it work? It analyzes the comments and overall karma for all users on the current page and tags offending users. Tags applied: Troll - User with -100 comment karma. Mouse over tag to see stats. Frank - User with a new, low karma account. (Fresh Reddit Account; No Karma) Sub Troll - User with less than -100 comment karma in the current subreddit. Mouse over tag to see stats. (yes, it downloads, stores, and caches the latest 1000 comments for each user) Deplorable - User who has too much comment karma from a deplorable subreddit. You can change which subreddits are on the deplorable list. Mouse over tag to see stats. (The_Donald, sjwhate, milliondollarextreme, greatawakening, etc) Propaganda - Thread linking to a domain on your propaganda list. You can edit this list of domains as well. (breitbart.com, dailycaller.com, foxnews.com, gop.com, etc) Other features: Adds a link to the user's SnoopSnoo page to the RES user mouseover window that pops up. No more copying and pasting to research a user. Adds a link to the Ceddit version of the current page. No more need to edit the URL so you can see deleted comments. FAQ: Does this track me? No. It doesn't even grab your username off the page. It doesn't know who you are and will flag you right along with everyone else if it applies. It doesn't send data to any other sites either. It only communicates with the Reddit API. How much bandwidth does this use? About a gig of data in a heavy day of Redditing. I wouldn't use this if you are on a data capped connection. It does cache the data though. It fully caches everything for 24 hours. And after 24 hours, it will only download their latest comments. The extension is fairly smart but there millions and millions of people on here every day. How much storage is this going to use on my computer? Chrome supports up to 16 gigs of data stored in its database. I have it set to delete users not seen in two weeks when it gets near the quota. So, less than 16gigs.

(2021-07-06) E Bunton: I've noticed in the recent past that sites which were labeled centrist have been reclassified "extreme left". Learned that the app sources their bias ratings come from "Media Bias Fact Check": These days, MBFC is generally used as a source when someone wants to add a veneer of respectability to the extremely tired claim that almost all trustworthy news outlets are liberal in nature. MBFC does not shield users from opinion journalism, it is opinion. Specifically, it is the opinion of a guy named Gus. - The Columbia Journalism Review describes Media Bias/Fact Check as an amateur attempt at categorizing media bias and Van Zandt as an "armchair media analyst". The Poynter Institute notes, "Media Bias/Fact Check is a widely cited source for news stories and even studies about misinformation, despite the fact that its method is in no way scientific." -(Wikipedia) If I do not already have information about a news outlet, having instant access to some random ideological placement that falsely calls it into question makes me less knowledgeable. If you point this out, they'll remind you that users can change their own ratings. But if I already have information about an outlet, repositioning it on a list for me alone to see is a meaningless placebo. MBFC actually does seem reliable in their factual/non factual ratings. Reddit Pro Tools could source those instead, but...I have a feeling they're getting exactly what they want out of it.
(2021-03-03) Henry Cornuelle: I don't really care about the political side, but it's nice setting custom tags for people who post in music subs I like so I can see other fans of GYBE in the wild and so on. I just wish adding subreddits wasn't case-sensitive.

(2020-11-12) Zachary Jensen: It works. But it also stores way too much data on my computer. I had been using it for a few months, and it stored over 60 GB in AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\IndexedDB. Took me a while to figure out what was taking up so much space on my computer. Wouldn't install unless you've got plenty of hard drive space to spare.
(2020-09-03) Chris B: My alt account has been tagged with "pol troll" for 80 or so comments on US politics based subs. I never post on these subs because I am not American, nor am I interested in US politics. It is very apparent that the developers are tagging accounts so certain users receive harassment.

(2019-11-14) George Spelvin: Awesome extension. It's like seeing MAGA hats in a crowd of people to see who is not worth talking to! It helps identify those who support a fascist regime so that I can ignore their often racist/xenophobic venom and discuss reasonably with those that don't fall into these categories. Someone who frequents The_Donald on Reddit is too deep into the kool aid to be rational. Edit: had to adjust my vote -- no update in months and I now have to run another version of this put out by another user after RPT stopped working.
(2019-11-14) X W: Was great but is pretty much abandoned by the author now. The support sub on Reddit goes completely unanswered (until someone asks about taking it over and doing fixes.)

(2019-08-05) Rich De Luca: Great extension. Highly customizable - Only thing missing is tracking User/subs that is the user-"subreddits" based off of userpages.
(2019-07-08) John Reel: An extension that will further divide and isolate any who are not with the majority. The most devious part of tools like this is that it discourages any discussion from two or more dissenting parties. What a shame that tools like this are the inevitable end game of political discussion.

(2019-06-19) Kyle Telechan: Incredible useful to identify people pretending to be something they're not in order to make bad-faith arguments. I'm also a huge fan of the "bias" meter on sources. It's incredibly helpful to get a quick overview of a source before reading so that I can look for other sources of the same story before taking it as verified. This goes for both leanings, politically. The database file is a bit much, but understandable considering the way the tool works.
(2019-06-05) Daddy Finger: Tags T_D posters but does nothing to tag radical left/tankie/communist posters, which are a much, much larger problem on reddit. Tags libertarian stuff as "far right", which is laughable.

(2019-04-08) Jurij Fedorov: There are a few things that make me dislike this app even though it is useful if you put a lot of time into adjusting it. The new update in 2019 deleted all my settings. I had a lot of far left subs set to a flair and that flair changed to other subs because of the update. The maker of the app is most likely far left/socialist. He calls police "oink oink" and has set media like "Reason" into the Extreme Right category even though they are not even right at all. They are libertarian. So, this app is useful. But the settings that come with the app are just mean and far left. I don't hate cops. I don't think libertarians are far right.
(2019-03-31) Andrew Patterson: Perfect app - Thanks. I just deleted the rest of the propaganda that was automatically put on. Allows me to see who see the far left loonies are and where they post. Grouped by socialism, politics, worldnews, the_mueller, chapo etc. Thanks guys!

(2019-03-07) David Stutzman: Just a warning... In order to cut down on the amount of requests it makes to reddit's servers, this extension will save the results it fetches to a local database. Over time, this database can grow to be quite large -- at one point for me it was over 20 GB! You can clear this out by doing the following: 1. Navigate to reddit.com 2. Open the Chrome Developer Tools panel 3. Select the Application tab 4. Expand "IndexedDB" in the left menu 5. Select "rpt - https://www.reddit.com" 6. Click the "Delete database" button 7. Click OK to confirm deletion You might want to do this every couple of months just to free up space again, depending on how much you use reddit on your computer.

This sort of quick review of a user's negative impact in communities and controversial subreddit affiliations should be a core part of Reddit if they truly want to curtail these detrimental activities.
