I decided to try this out hoping that it would work, but instead of doing as shown it would just sit there uselessly. I am honestly disappointed.
not working as expected - 2019
Overall design simple and useful, but it counts double-dashes (my replacement for the em-dash while writing online) as "words," e.g. counting 503 for a document I know to be 500 even. Also, it says it "can read and change site data," and I have to wonder why a word-count utility would need access to CHANGE site data. I'm gonna keep looking.
Added word count everywhere I wanted it. Updates a little slow, but better than everything else.
Amazing! Literally all I have to do is highlight the text in question and it displays the word count in the extensions bar.

YES! Just what I was looking for; a non-intrusive extension to automatically give me an accurate word count when I need it. Love it!
