Anonymous 2026-04-01: I previously used Better Canvas, loved it, and thought I'd update to this one, but unfortunately am not enjoying it so far. It's not very intuitive and is frustrating to set up. I want to find a way where I can just change the Canvas card images without changing all the other things like font, colors, etc. For instance, changing the header color also changes a bunch of other things (and not the ones you expect). When I implement a new theme, it changes everything on my Canvas as well and doesn't allow me to revert back to just the OG Canvas. This upgrade feels like it's making the simplest things so much harder to do.

Anonymous 2026-03-30: Was on the version and now I really wish I could go back to BetterCanvas this new "BetterCampus" is just so gimicky and convoluted, I miss when it was just a small extension without all this paywall junk and ai bs. The colour coding tabs also dont work anymore. 90% of the features I dont even use, they just made it worse and a cash grab. I only use this cause i cant stand the canvas lightmode. The developers have really ruined such a beautiful thing.
Anonymous 2026-03-30: the newest update (8.3.0) really bunked somethings up. I uninstalled and reinstalled the extension because some of the settings were not working and now a bunch more aren't working either, plus I lost access to a few features that are now behind a paywall. i really want to keep using the extension because it helps with organization but the extension isn't working properly anymore.
Anonymous 2026-03-29: Version 8.3 has lots of bugs! Cannot change position of GPA card, GPA card won't update, can't mark off tasks 1 and 2 to set-up GPA! Wish I could go back to 8.0.

Anonymous 2026-03-26: This is a must have for students, I am never saying that teams is better than canvas ever again with this extension. This alone makes stock canvas an actual suite of productivity for students of both high school and college. There are the occasional bugs but overall, this extension alone is so good you forget they even exist. However, I do have a few criticisms for this extension, one being that as much as this extension on its own is free, there's still some annoying paywalls, such as having to pay just to change a basic feature like the to-do progress bar appearance when it used to be free to change that. Another thing I've noticed is that sometimes, this extension makes the Canvas tab use a lot more memory than usual, sometimes as much as 1.1GB of RAM. If this extension had some backend optimizations like Electron builds or lighter/faster compilers for CSS/Java/JavaScript, this could help. And then the biggest annoying paywall is the theme customization, where you get more stress about customizing and swapping your themes than AP exam week, since you only get 3 theme swaps and 3-5 edits per week, so I kinda just gave up on customization and left my theme as is a while back. I'm not really impacted much by the other paywalled features though, since I use other apps for notes and AI outside of BetterCampus, so it's not much of an issue. Overall, it's really just the paywalls in places where it annoys you the most, and the slight resource tax, but can you really complain when the free version itself already does enough? Even with these issues, I think the extension does a great job with what its supposed to do. Besides the extension though, I adore the community and the team working on this extension, and I highly recommend joining the discord server too, the people there are amazing! If I could give this extension a 4.5/5 or even a 4.7/5, I would, but Google won't let me do that. Okay you know what I'll just round up, 5 stars because hey, at the end of the day, you're getting more features without paying for anything.
Anonymous 2026-03-26: Pleased with the Previous and Current Version of this Extension I have used both versions, and I liked the transition to the extension's current UI and tools. Offers a great way to customize the Canvas layout, but more importantly, I enjoy the additional tools that help organize and navigate the Canvas page more easily. Overall, great efforts are being made to build and enhance the extension!
Anonymous 2026-03-26: Pre revamp: 10/10 Post revamp: 2/10 Got the job done (past tense). this extension really went downhill. I try to give it time for redemption but it's not looking good. Things I like: dark theme, card grades, some other minor dashboard things Things I hate: Account required for most things, popup is in website only and uses more resources and takes up the entire page, a lot of features that are clogging up space and resources, themes are paid, everything is paid. The subscription is so expensive too coming in at 12-20$ per month. shoving AI into stuff won't fix it. This is trying to be more than what it needed to, so I will be forking this and making a better version since there are still remnants of open source from the better old version
Anonymous 2026-03-26: I accidentally signed up for a subscription on the wrong account and customer service (aka the CEO) was very kind and worked consistently to help me get my subscription on the right account so I could fully appreciate it. I've used the task list every day and love how customizable it is. Never once have I regretted downloading this or getting the subscription. I also appreciate that the extension is amazing also without the subscription!

Anonymous 2026-03-25: this is great except there mine randomly started to not allow me to open new notes, which is angering me as it is the only platform I have been using to keep track of my lecture notes. I need this to be fixed but cannot get in contact with anyone who is able to help, not even a chat bot. I have done everything the troubleshooting tells me to do but it still hasn't fixed it. What do I do? The communication and help centre needs to be drastically improved.

Anonymous 2026-03-23: Leaving a review because I, like a lot of other commenters here, was confused by the new update and nearly uninstalled. There IS a way to make it like the "old" better campus. By going into preferences/appearance, you can hide alot of the new features the new update introduces (bettercampus button, enable classic sidebar etc). You can also turn off the AI notes in the settings. To all those who prefer the old update, it takes a bit of finagling but it is possible.
Anonymous 2026-03-23: Updating the entire thing in the middle of the semester for students was a horrible choice. Not only is the new update incredibly bad but no student wants to have to redo their entire Canvas setup in the middle of a semester.

Anonymous 2026-03-19: MAIN REASON: Somehow changed all my websites to a terrible darkmode?? and i couldn't read text on any websites for a while because it was just black background against gray text I can't believe the extension was the issue. It took forever to figure out, I didn't think an extension for just canvas could mess up every other site. Be careful!! OTHER REASONS: Used to be really good but then they added a bunch of UI that's weird to navigate like the window looks like it's movable but it's not so if you open it over your classes you can't see what theme you chose. You now have to make an account?! That wasn't there before and they limited it so you can't use a bunch of themes. Honestly sucks because it used to be good and have no issues.
Anonymous 2026-03-19: I really like it! It makes organizing my assignments and keeping track of it so much easier. The only thing is, I was also using the previous version, Better Canvas, and the one thing I liked better about that version was the fact that I could use it on my two Canvas accounts. Because of my Dual Enrollment program, I have a Canvas for both high school and college, and I would like to continue using it for both, but it isn't possible. I have to figure out another system to use now for high school since I have my college Canvas logged in for BetterCampus. It's a bit disappointing because the themes and organization topics have helped me send work in on time and know what was upcoming, but I can't use it for both classes, which will make everything a lot more difficult.
Anonymous 2026-03-18: I've been using BetterCampus for around 6 months now and I can 100% say its improved my Canvas experience. The regular feels so lack-luster and old and I love what BetterCampus has done to make it look modern and fresh. Additionally, the planning and notes features are game changers. Syncing assignments straight to my google calendar makes planning things so easy and being able to transcribe lecture videos too is really helpful. Overall definitely worth checking out for anyone hesitant!
Anonymous 2026-03-18: Very helpful! I only use this for mainly to show card assignments and grades, (using a different extension called "Tasks for Canvas" for the to-do list). I did notice an issues with a recent update (the fonts option was choosing a certain font for me even after I turned this feature off) but this issue didn't persist. Overall pretty helpful for getting a summary of all of my classes without having to click on each course. I haven't really used the customization options, so maybe I have avoided what many are talking about with the new update.
Anonymous 2026-03-18: I loved BetterCanvas but the update makes things so difficult to use T-T I do appreciate all the helpful features and I'm sure other students may benefit from them.... but I wish there was an option to use the prior version. I was able to quickly customize my cards, have a functional and eye-pleasing layout, and effectively access all my courses. Now it seems like a feature overhaul. Please give us the option to revert!
Anonymous 2026-03-16: This recent update is a massive disappointment. Part of what I enjoyed about BetterCanvas was its simplicity, and this overhaul completely does away with that. This extension is now full of bloat, as well as a tacky paid subscription. Not only is this update mostly a downgrade, but it also makes Canvas nearly unusable in smaller windows, leading me to disable this extension completely. I wish this update would either be reverted, or we were given an option to use the old BetterCanvas. This is very unfortunate.
Anonymous 2026-03-15: Used to be free and good but now you get a limited number of creations and remixes for themes then you have to pay a subscription and is beginning to use AI. Everything ends up a cash grab at the end of the day.
Anonymous 2026-03-13: alright program, however the recent updates have made it even bugger than it was previously. Canvas thinks assignments that aren't due for a week are late, wont show my grades for certain classes no matter what, and doesn't show activities for other classes. Some work fine, however my most used class icons do not work and it has been very frustrating to navigate. I wish there was a way to revert to the previous update as it had a more intuitive design.
Anonymous 2026-03-13: I love better canvas! However, I am not a fan of the new update. The planner is awful in my opinion. The old assignments section was amazing! I used it daily and it was a great help in planning my day. Please bring this back! I see that other users are also discontent with it.

Anonymous 2026-03-07: I really really liked the old BetterCanvas but this update left a lot to be desired for me. The new To-Do list is a good idea in concept but theres just some design choices that make it harder to use in my opinion. For example, the To-Do list being broken into drop down menus based on assignment due date. I appreciate that they are sorted by due date like in the old To-Do list, but I absolutely despise that they are all collapsed by default except for what is due soonest. Even if you expand all of the dropdowns, they'll all close again when you reload Canvas. I could easily see myself not recognizing that an assignment exists until the day it is due because of this. The old To-Do list was nice because you could easily see, at a glace, upcoming assignments even if they ranged across multiple days/weeks. To solve this, I'd love an option to have dropdowns open by default, or an option to have a simple assignment list (no dropdowns) like the old To-Do list had. I also don't love that the To-Do list is now broken into displaying only chunks of assignments based on the timeframe you set (ex. 1 week, 2 week). The old To-Do list didn't work like this. If you had an assignment due 2 months from now, you'd see it there, given there weren't too many sooner assignments such that that assignment was outside of your "maximum number of assignments to display" preference. I'd love to see that come back. I also wish that if you had enabled the BetterCanvas To-Do list, the built in To-Do list, "Coming up" list, and "Recent feedback" were hidden. There are a couple of settings that seem to be broken at the moment, like "hide the BetterCampus logo". I don't mind the developers creating some premium features, I understand wanting to make some money off of a successful service, but putting features that were originally free behind an account-wall or pay-wall is seriously lame. (I just want to set a sidebar picture like I was able to before, why do I now need an account?? :/ ). I have no problem with new features having these restrictions, but punishing legacy users by taking away things they used to be able to have free access to just isn't fair. Finally, with all due respect, STOP with the "You're missing out!" page everytime you click back on an account-wall'd feature. I understand it like once or twice, but every single time is excessive and really annoying for someone whose still trying to interact with different new things they see, not knowing they're locked behind an account. Other than those complaints, I still enjoy BetterCanvas and I hope the developers will continue to make improvements in the future.
Anonymous 2026-03-06: I liked the old one, and I had SEVERAL themes that I had personally made for myself that are all gone now. I am a student in undergrad with an undergrad budget -- there is nothing on BetterCampus that I think is worth spending my already limited money on. Upgrading the UI might have been worth it for me if it didn't get rid of themes that I had made for my own personal use. And before someone says that I should have send them to be evaluated and published, they left me stalled for MONTHS on one that I did try to do that with (for a popular media that I had not even seen a theme for that character of). Very disappointed because I had over a years worth of my own themes saved on there for holidays, games that I enjoy and no one else has published, and ones that I even put together for my friends. ETA: And only having so many free swaps a week and creations a month? I won't even be in school long enough to recreate all of the themes I had and liked. Seriously? Not everything needs to be a cash grab or a side hustle.

Anonymous 2026-03-05: I thought this would be really cool and fun to do. I have tried to reach out to support but emails will not go through. When you try to upload or link any image for your class cards, it will not work. I was most excited for this part. I tried everything. I went into my settings. Turned the extension off then back on, refreshed. Nothing will work. I made sure that the size and type or image was correct as well. Super bummed.

Anonymous 2026-02-19: Was using BetterCanvas for years and absolutely loved it! I now love what they've done with BetterCampus, but I am struggling with actually being able to use it. I am not sure if my university blocked the extension (because I was able to use it before) or if it's a different problem. It won't let me log in with my school email but I can with my regular gmail (yet it still doesn't work when I do that and constantly logs out). Very upset that this is happening cause this really helped me be on top of my assignments :( Edit: Jakes input fixed my problem! still can't use my school email to log in (most likely a problem on my schools end) however it works with my personal email! Thank you! Love the new update :)
