Empty New Tab Page
With this extension, new tabs display a blank page instead of the usual new tab page with thumbnails.
For those who don't want to worry which recently visited pages show up on the new tab page, who prefer plain over noisy, simple over complex.
Version 1.2.0 adds dark mode support.
Version 1.3.0's only change is to use manifest_version 3. For this extension, this does not affect behavior at all. The change is required to keep the extension listed in Chrome Web Store.

I'm using this on M.S. Edge, and it's perfect. I cannot believe it took more than an year trying all other workarounds for this sh*ty browsers' behavior on new tabs, until I could finally try this extension. In fact I was refusing to accept that I had to install a extension to be able to do a freaking simple thing: display a blank page. Gosh! This is absolutely ridiculous. I tried customising the new tab, tweaking the browser folders and files, removing the most elements I could, blocking domains on hosts. Nothing could be as simple and fast as a plain blank page. This extension simply does it. EDIT: As os June 2025, it no longer works in Private Mode of M.S. Edge.
Ineffective in Edge's inPrivate mode which still shows a Bing search bar, and lots of instructions. "Allow in inPrivate" was enabled, but this extension has no effect. The "New Tab Redirect" extension does work in inPrivate mode. However, this extension will also blank out the address bar, and follows the color background versus the other extension populate about:blank into the address bar (because that is where it is configured to redirect), and the blank page is white instead of dark. This extension needs to address loading a blank doc in inPrivate mode to be complete.

This addon does work, BUT, the new blank tab does not display the proper icon in the upper left corner, instead a plain black square displays.

In a dark mode the color is different from the color of menus. Color is not customizable.

It messes up ALL tabs, not just the new one. You restart chrome; it loses all open tabs.

Great, just let us switch between dark mode & light mode. I have dark mode in Windows, but light mode in Google Chrome, yet it shows the dark mode background instead of the light mode background.
