It was free previously, and the description page doesn't appear to have the requirement for a subscription clearly communicated at the time of this review. For the time I had it while it was free, it worked okay enough for my personal use case despite a few bugs, such as adjusting the dimming level sometimes causing the screen to go back to normal brightness until I toggled it off and on again. So, this is a "I could recommend this as a free extension but not as a paid one" situation.
