Reduce annoying 404 pages by automatically checking for an archived copy in the Wayback Machine.
The official Chrome extension of the Wayback Machine from the Internet Archive.
Detects dead pages, 404s, DNS failures and other Web breakdowns (HTTP error codes 408, 410, 451, 500, 502, 503, 504, 509, 520, 521, 523, 524, 525, and 526)
If we have a Wayback Machine archive of a URL that returns those error codes we will offer it to you.
In addition you can view a site map of Web sites based on archives of URLs from those sites archived in the Wayback Machine.

- (2024-06-07) Fyingfox Gaming: I do like the idea of having to archive webpages automatically with it whenever I visit any websites instead of having to visit the Wayback Machine page to do it manually every time.
- (2024-01-31) patrick healy: It used to work perfectly, but about a month ago, it suddenly said that I needed to sign in to use it. If I need to sign in to use it, then why doesn't it send me to the page to do so? it's useless without being able to be signed in.
- (2023-10-19) Trevor Hart: This is a good way to show what a website looked like in the late 90s to early 2000s. I like to look at what the old "MyFoxBoston" site for FOX 25 WFXT looked like back then, since that era of FOX TV is so nostalgic!
- (2023-10-08) Jai Cabryizky: Used to be an excellent and useful extension, five stars easily. But as of the last few weeks or perhaps month and a half it has been crashing my browser with increasing frequency. Now, it crashes my browser probably 3 out of four times that I try to use it. And that's just with trying to see if a page has been saved before and then access one of these saved pages, let alone when I actually try and save a page myself. Could just be my browser, since I've been using kiwi browser for Android mobile which has had varying of newfound & frustrating problems (where there were previously no problems) following the Kiwi Dev's brilliant idea to "update" the browser... Since then it's been having regular issues. However, in terms of extension use/compatibility this is the only extension which has been crashing my browser, so my layman's logic leads me to think it's this extension that's been the source of the crashing bug when I attempt to use it.

- (2023-08-03) Siddish Reddy Iragamreddy: life saver
- (2023-06-22) Adam Ahmed: very good app
- (2023-02-13) Ananstracated: For awhile, it didn't want to save pages, but it works now, but why am I getting an error for a 2GB file size limit, when it clearly says on their website this? "Is there a limit to the number of files or the size of the file that I can upload? Currently, there is no limit on the size of files nor the number of files. However, from a systems perspective, we do not recommend files larger than 50 GBs to be uploaded or more than 1000 files, per single page."
- (2023-02-01) ku amir: OMG thank you for this extension, I can basically go back in time and explore old articles on the web using this and feel what it is like to surf the web during those time, thank you!
- (2023-01-31) Mubariz Mahmood: now has got much better with auto saving. But must have option to exclude domains from saving as well (blacklisting)
- (2022-12-21) Arbër Lezi: Practically the most effortless extension ever. I love using it and it's been in the background ever since I installed it.
- (2022-11-28) Richard Getz: Great Extension Two things to consider: 1) always keep me logged in 2) ability to save more frequently if I am a member who donates
- (2022-11-22) I S: Now it breaks healthy sites just because of not very performant DNS server...
- (2022-10-21) Angelo Pizzulli: It has got so many features. I love it
- (2022-10-03) Marc Juhl: Works Great I Would Like For Settings To Sync In MY Brave Sync Chain Tho!
- (2022-09-27) CounterCultureWISE: I'm only going back to this archiver because my favorite one seems to have been hit with bots to the point that I can't archive anything anymore. I use an archiver for our blog and podcast, and typically I just want to use the archived link so that the original page doesn't disappear and so that when we're live, we don't get hit with ads and popups. Functionally, Wayback is OK - but it doesn't do the single thing I need it to do: archive the site and GIVE ME THE FREAKING LINK to the archived page on the spot. It takes me more time to go to the Wayback website (or my list on their website) and find the page I just archived than it takes me to find the original article and write the blog post around it.
- (2022-09-11) Claudio Angileri: Last update (?) makes Brave crash when clicking the extension Overall very great project and extension
- (2022-09-11) Matheus Rossi: Does not work for me. Create an account, tried to capture screenshot but can't log in even with valid credentials. Try to capture site and it says: "Save Failed" and above "Wayback Machine Unavailable". I'm currently using Opera GX, don't know what's wrong.
- (2022-07-26) A Pinterest: It is really good and has useful features
- (2022-07-19) Pat MySecret: Great Project/extension Updating and raising my Rating because it seems more reliable now than in May 21. I think the Dashboard has changed a lot to the better. Perhaps I wasn't being careful enough of conflicting extensions the other time.
- (2022-07-17) Memz: I only installed this because the (third-party) extension "Save to the Wayback Machine" is stopping in 2023. I installed this previously but uninstalled because you had to have an account, reinstalled when the extension page said you don't have to have an account now. This one has a lot more buttons, but the "Save Page" function doesn't work at all. Recommend just copying the other extension.
Mashallah It was a big move in adding and using archive service. After experimenting several times when clicking on the archive it appears that the archive was done but when I enter my account I do not find the archived site by the tool in my account I do not know if this is a problem or does archive in general.
- (2022-05-25) Miguel bernardes: Nice extension, is fully featured and has a good design.
- (2022-04-28) Fcjghjgmkj Hyjmyhkj: The extension does not work. 28 April 2022, Chrome.
- (2022-04-10) Brian Tuju: It is really good and has useful features
- (2022-04-08) Mixen R.: Used to do what it says but now that you're required to sign in to save a webpage. I have a login error using my previously created account. Even signing into my archive.org account on the webpage doesn't change the status. I can't save anything now because of this. I am not sure why an account is now required to use all functionalities, if it's required I would like to be able to actually sign in.
- (2022-03-24) Ian Valee: It's great to be able to help archiving without really paying attention to it and also having use out of it if a website is down!
- (2022-03-22) Theuslesseagle 534: Works very well. I especially like the feature that shows you how many times a page has been saved, it helps when exploring old (or very new!) sites to find what I should archive.
- (2022-03-20) Jeremy Leung: The latest update has some new features that would make it easier to archive not only the page itself but also outlinks and more. Unfortunately, no matter which page I go to, it kept giving me the message "Save Failed" even if I can save the page, outlinks, and more on web.archive.org instead.
- (2022-03-14) J Ender: It now requires a login. They claim to hold privacy to a high standard, but now want personally identifiable information? I understand that to offer a personal archive, that's necessary - but the anonymous option should be permitted (and the default setting). The 'private mode' is also not selectable without diving into settings. Regular user is probably going to forget about it. Do these settings and extension installation compromise incognito mode? I would appreciate a change in the taskbar icon color if the page is unarchived, then I could decide if it should be archived or not. Or announced up-front after clicking the icon - instead of having to go look at the page on archive.org. Would be nice to know if: never archived, archived >1 month ago, archived longer than one day ago, archived today - some sites don't need frequent updating, some change on a minute-by-minute basis. I've seen PDFs with 1000s of snapshots - which are totally un-needed, as the resource has never changed. "it can now [r]ead and change all your data on the websites you visit" - is required in order to seemlessly load and show archived content when a 404 is thrown during a websurfing session. However, for those paranoid people who do not want to give up control, it should be possible to make a clean extension - without such permissions - that allows you to grab the url, and when clicked, check and present the archive.org most-recent version.
- (2022-03-13) Lanee JIANG: Always Login Error
- (2022-03-05) Christoph Engelhardt: Wayback Machine was ok until last update. Now the extension requires login for some operation, which would be ok. But email and password, which are accepted when logging in at the Wayback Machine-site is not accepted here, so login is impossible. Multiple password reset without change of this behaviour. Does not work any more. It is a pity.
- (2022-03-02) iman zaim: gud
- (2022-02-28) Piet Kotzé: It worked flawlessly and was perfect, but now appears to require one to sign in to save a webpage from within the extension.
- (2022-02-27) 404_11: It is an amazing tool that bridges the gap between casual web browsing, and more serious/deliberate web archival. As an avid user of the wayback machine, having this tool catch all the pages as I visit them while I don't make more in depth captures is amazing. If you don't have it yet, grab it, and set it to make automatic captures, it will help with preservation a lot.
- (2022-02-27) Eric: Good, but I would like it to automatically load the most recent version of a page when met with a 404 message. I don't know if that's already supposed to happen, but it doesn't seem to work on custom 404 pages as far as I can tell.
- (2022-02-26) Ray Dmee: Worked perfectly fine until recently, now all I get is "save failed." Using save page now on the website still works though.
- (2022-02-17) AmberDambey Gaming: Never does anything of use. It also interferes with my search engine where (I think) the "no more results found" text at the bottom of the page gets interpreted as a 404 screen. It also hardly ever detects actual 404 pages.
- (2022-02-15) Dalessandro kiko: Not Work
- (2022-02-12) Churble Furbles: saving pages never works
- (2021-12-11) sean: The website is the best of the best! It literally is, it's like a mix of everything in the internet , an arcade , a youtube-like video streaming image viewing , E-books and more.
