YouTube Windowed FullScreen
Extension Actions
- Extension status: Featured
- Live on Store
Watch videos on YouTube fullscreen within your browsers screen.
A simple and lightweight extension that adds an icon which allows the YouTube video player to fill the entire page, as a full browser player.
Note: I'd requested notification permissions to be able to show a little popup when I add new features in an update but have decided to remove this in 4.9.
UPDATE: Now works with new Youtube UI!
Other New/Updated Features (Premium required for some features, $12 AUD for Lifetime access):
- Adds button to player for windowed fullscreen + configurable hotkey (FREE)
- Auto-toggle windowed fullscreen (Premium)
- Allow scrolling while windowed fullscreen mode (Premium)
- Miniplayer while scrolling (Premium)
- Picture-in-Picture Shortcut (Premium)
- Hide Youtube Miniplayer Button (Premium)
- Always Show Search Bar during windowed fullscreen mode (FREE)
- Show video title during windowed fullscreen mode (FREE)
NOTE: PLEASE RESTART CHROME OR REFRESH YOUTUBE IF IT DOESNT WORK AFTER INSTALLING.
Configure options by either clicking the icon in your browser, or head to chrome://extensions and click on Details for Youtube Windowed FullScreen and click the "Extension Options".
Please note some Shortcut Keys may not work correctly as YouTube, or your system may block them. Most keys should work if they are not reserved.
While in fullscreen mode, mouse over where the search bar usually is for it to appear; it will also appear while scrolling.
Change Log:
V5.0
- Fix for updated new YouTube UI
V4.12
- Fix for certain new YouTube layout
V 4.11
- Add 'Hide Miniplayer Button' setting to hide miniplayer button on youtube player
V 4.9
- Remove notification permission
V 4.8
- Add new setting for hiding scrollbar while in scrollable fullscreen to squeeze that extra bit of real estate out of the page
- Add new setting for hiding 'Includes paid promotion' overlay button for thumbnails on the subscription page for people like me that middle click videos often but then end up in a google support page! (This removes the little indicator that youtube adds to thumbnails to indicate a video has sponsorships. This is not something the extension adds just to get you to pay to remove or anything!)
V 4.7
- Shifted from yearly subscription to one time payment. Please rest assured anyone that had previously subscribed has been automatically migrated to lifetime access and any renewal/subscription has been cancelled.
- Updated algorithim for consistent auto-toggling and button rendering
We're Moving to a Freemium Model:
Sign up won't take any credit card or anything like that; A one time payment of $12 AUD grants you premium access for life for the feature mentioned above that require premium

- Underrated and useful for my case. I use Hyprland, and when I want to watch a video, it's just amazing when multitasking

- Functions very well. Update to new youtube UI was fast and looks good. A humble suggestion, could you add a "show chat" button for youtube livestreams? The windowed full screen button works on live, but if you have the chat hidden, you can't show it unless you minimize, click show chat, and go fullscreen again.

- I really love this extension. Personally I think everybody should try it and see if it fits your need. I don't use YouTube without it. It helps so much with the clutter. By the way, the execution is on another level. I can't find any extension like this anywhere else. Maybe there is one like it, but I just could not find it. The simplicity and ease of use is really awesome. You really enjoy it to the fullest with the premium version. The key is when you click on a video to play, it automatically open in Windowed Fullscreen with the premium version by turning on the "Auto Toggle". The "Scrollable" function is also quite useful, which can be hidden, by the way. All in all, congratulations to the developer. One gripe though; I don't know if it's because I use YouTube so much, I was a bit frustrated when I couldn't use the extension because Google deployed a new version of YouTube and the developer took a while to update the extension. I don't want to blame the developer, since I don't know the reasons why it took so long. I think if more people would get the premium version maybe that would give the developer an incentive to update it faster. Anyhow I complain about that but I still maintain my 5 stars with convictions the gripe will go away with more premium subscriptions.

- Need an update!!! This is a really good extension, but today youtube has released a new UI on their video player and this extension needs an update since it does not work with it anymore.

- 5/5 I use it every time. Can't Watch youtube without this. With the new UI hopefully Dev can make a work around. Will be waiting Patiently. Love this extension
- Antonio Turner
- I love it. Solved all my needs for watching windowed videos.

- Used to love this, would happily pay for Lifetime. But it hasn't worked for me (US) for months and I am starting to think it may never being that last update was in April.

- Tons of useful features locked behind a paywall but the free version does work well (for me at least) despite its simplicity which was just what I was looking for, a way to watch vids in a windowed fullscreen mode.
- Pranav Iyer
- Works but making free features now paid sucks, especially when the app itself, which is really just one button on the YouTube player, looks pretty bad and out of place compared to the rest of the buttons. It's minor but you'd expect that little bit of polish from a paid app

- Make extension free and opensource

- I have an ultrawide monitor and I love the utility of this app. It allows me to have a YT video expanded to a "normal" 27" on one side (or in the middle) and use the other remaining 27" monitor equivalent for productivity. It is a must have for those with non-standard ultrawide monitors that are the equivalent of two 16:9 monitors side-by-side.

- There was just a YT update that broke functionality, and I never realized how much I adore this extension until I lost it.
- Baman Boi
- Videos playing faster than 1x speed stutter and buffer constantly, the problem goes away after returning to normal mode.

- Fantastic extension, helpful

- This has been amazing for me but recently it has stopped working. The button disappeared, the hotkey don't work. This continues to be the issue even after i got the 1 day free trial. I'll be more than happy to pay the $12 lifetime subscription once it works. It seems that the problem coincidence with the freemium model transition, roughly a month ago. p/s - the incredible annoyance I have with watching youtube now is a testimonial to what a great extension this has been. 5-stars what it has done for me and hope it will continue to do for me.

- I'll eat a bag of big ones before I pay for a glorified CSS edit Word to the wise, there are free and less bloated solutions that don't paywall things like scrolling lol Edit: I appreciate the response, but your payment model is really silly. I'm hugely pro-donationware and not at all upset about the price. But the blunt truth is that you turned some of the free features into paid features requiring a login lol There are other free options that are just as reliable, sorry. You're right that one star was unfair, I have adjusted it to three as I did use it for months as a free user.
- Olavi Varis
- Monetization features have begun to creep in and thus enshittification is in full steam, including paid promotion overlays and locking previously free features behind a paywall - the extension also just started to require permissions for notifications, which are DEFINITELY NOT REQUIRED for the core functionality. Uninstalling right now.
- Stan
- Wants money for it to work. Don't pay. It encourages grifters.

- I like to use this extension occasionally and not all the time. For some reason, it now seems to be auto full-screening every video I click on regardless of whether or not I want that. I don't see any obvious setting to stop this from happening. If there even is one, it shouldn't be as hidden as it is. If there isn't one, thats even worse. Regardless, there are other apps that give the same functionality without the boneheaded design. Simply switching to one of those

- Works great so far.

- The button doesn’t always appear, and you constantly have to reload the page just to get it to show up. It’s beyond annoying. What’s even worse is that the auto-fullscreen feature no longer works. It used to function perfectly, but now it’s locked behind a paywall. Charging for what was once a basic feature is absolutely unreasonable. If the extension worked as intended, I’m sure many users, including myself, would have been happy to donate. But forcing an annual subscription just to restore basic functionality is unacceptable. --- Update: I uninstalled this extension from Chrome and replaced it with the "YouTube Fullscreen Mode" script from GreasyFork. It works way better, gets fast updates, and is completely open-source and free.

- was a very solid extension before they added premium, not only did they put auto fullscreen behind a paywall, they made the app much less reliable (wont even load sometimes). The only reason I was using this in the first place was because tampermonkey couldnt auto sync scripts across devices meaning id have to manually install the script (that essentially does what this extension does for free) on every device. Now that this is the less convenient option of the two, looks like im going to be switching back.
- Crow With Rights
- it's pretty useful but does have alot of issues, like having to adjust permissions constantly and reloading youtube to get it to work, rating it 2 stars because when it does work it's very usefull.
- Séamus Ó Donnghaile
- Works; fine freemium model for my needs - sign up is misleading, but it's totally optional and not required for the extension to function... unless you want the premium features. I would suggest the developer move to a donation based approach and open a buymeacoffee or kofi allowing folk to buy a lifetime model rather than try and make a subscription, especially with how anti-subscription folk are becoming nowadays. I understand that they are in an economic difficulty at the moment, but if you drive away everyone then you won't even have a userbase to get funding from.
- LazyPCRehab
- Asking people to pay for something that doesn't work.
- SANJST
- Doesn't work - still have windowed "full screen"
- Michał Imiołek
- dev is moving established features behind a paywall. it's about time to find a new one
- Sigma Flame
- New version, old free function now behind a paywall, new bug that always needs a page refresh to see the button. Downgrade to get the old version in order retrieve the old extension that was perfect! Don't pay the new version that is fully bugged! 0-stars

- asking for premium
- Kaylan Wade
- Premium? Time to find a replacement
- Rasmus Schultz
- Seems to require a login now? although payment appears to be optional, I don't want to sign up for anything. This extension does the same thing, so I use that now: https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/youtube-inline-fullscreen/mfpkbigjnlcgngkdbmnchfnenfmibkig
- Anthony Conley
- The "Auto-toggle windowed fullscreen" is not a new feature, it's been in this extension as long as I've used it. The developer has just moved it behind a payment.
- Spike VanHellsing
- Absolutely love this extension, but when in windowed fill screen how do i stop pressing t from making my screen go blank and making the search show if i move my mouse around?
- QinX
- Recent update moved functions behind a paywall. I understand development takes times, but put new features behind a paywall not already existing ones. Specifically auto fullscreen is now a premium feature.
- Ian Genelly
- Worked exactly as needed for a long time, but now opens an advertisement for the paid version each time I open chrome. Not worth keeping around :( edit: +1 star, glad the dev is working on it. I've moved to a macro on my kb that appends the "watch =?" URL with "watch_popup?=v" and am back to 0 extensions.
- Kiinako P
- Does what it does without any big fuss, but if the popups will not stop I'll have to look for a different one
- Muhammed Durra
- I personally liked this extension coz it was exactly what I need :) the only feature I miss in the new pricing model is the auto-toggle which I started to not use recently :) I also liked that the search bar appears when you hover on its location, I dont know if this is a new thing or already there :D yet I wonder if the new pricing model will save you from what you lost. I hope you get a better job and consider pricing also the price is not clarified before logging to the billing site
- Lachlan Knox
- Genuinely enjoy using this extension, the display is a step up from theater mode and the new scrolling feature means one less button I have to press to like a video or read comments. For $5 a year (which you can cancel the auto-renew) aslong as it's updated with YouTube UI changes I will be happy!
- Louie Riños
- You have to manually activate the windowed fullscreen functionality without a subscription.
- Milan Jansen
- This extension now loads React and a whole Firebase SDK with associated network calls to do what amounts to a tiny UI tweak. The developer is welcome to try and earn money for this tweak but it's not gonna work out. I'm staying on 4.2
- Eric Karnes
- Putting previously available features behind a paywall, this extension is now just spam. DON'T INSTALL
- Tanja Sørensen
- Have to say I did love it before but not anymore after the change to premium version. Specially since there is no information anywhere about prices, any information about privacy, gppr info, any guidance in withdrawing personal info etc specially now where the developer is a trader since the developer wants to sell the extension And then also that the developer has stated to google that the person is not a trader even that the person clearly are And I totally understand the reason for changing, but when everything then is disregarded the same time then nope so unfortunately going to file reports to google about those clear violations
- Joshua Wood
- Premium?! Lol and for that reason, I'm out
- Blackman Whitesuit
- it's a good extension, but really? a premium service for one feature is pretty wild and the continuous pop-ups to sign in really breaks the seamlessness of the ext. This was a workaround for me, and I have alternatives so I'll just uninstall.
- Azamat Kadyrbekov
- Was good before this premium staff
