Send audio and video streams directly to the well-known VLC™ media player
Open in VLC™ media player extension, sends video and audio links to the well-known VLC media player. This way you can directly watch online streams in the VLC media player with just one click. To send these links to the VLC media player, right-click over the video or audio link and use the context menu item or use the browser action button. If the extension only grabs a single link, the link is opened in the player. If multiple links are detected, you will get a prompt box to select media links to be sent to the player.
Note: For this extension to work, you will need to install a minimal native-client application. Instruction on how to install the native client will be displayed once the extension is used. You can also watch installation instruction on the FAQs page
How to use this extension:
1. The extension appends a context menu item to the browser context menu when the media element is the target.
2. The toolbar icon becomes active (colorful) when a page is supported
As of version 0.2.0, there is a tool to join media files in a single media file. You can find this tool on the right-click context menu over the page action button. The output format of this tool is WAV. You can use VLC to convert this WAV file to any other audio format.

Was looking for this for a long time. There used to be an old extension which unfortunately didn't work for mac but this worked perfect
A bit tricky to install, but once you get past that, rest will be worth it I guarantee.. I take a lotta screenshot among videos for my notes, and it's always the youtube interface shadow that gets in the way; so this extension massively helped me ignoring those overlays shadow via playing those videos on VLC turning on "minimal interface" Thanks a ton devs <3

The icon has a red "E" on it, which I'm pretty sure means error. Would be great if it told me what was wrong.

It works flawlessly on Windows 11/Chrome and does to the job :D Thanks to the developer.
Only works if you know how to script code everything might be useful for Rumble since no media player exists if not I wish VLC would update a patch for it to work on Rumble to add a third party mediaplayer for Linux I wish this could bypass VUDU and make it work on Linux as well.
the extension didnt work for me on Firefox, googlechrome or edge. i had to download the program to my PC
I want to us it with the Open Source Web Interface for Linux set-top box (Vu+ Ultimo4K receiver) Its certainly not working as it is on Firefox. There by clicking the stream icon it's opening VLC and plays the stream. With Chrome you can only save the stream link. (Window 11)

Столкнулся недавно с проблемой ,когда приложение отрывает внешний плеер ,только саму ссылку не открывает .Приходится вставлять ссылку самому из этого же приложения .У меня одного такое?
What the hell just happened?!?!? Before this morning I could open up multiple video streams, now it will only open one stream at a time. If I happen to have a video stream already playing in the vlc media player in try to send another video stream to the vlc player using the extension, it plays over the current video stream already playing. Use to be able to play multiple video streams at once. As of this morning it will only open and play one video stream at at time. What happened overnight?!?!? I did not tweak any of the settings in my vlc player or the extension. Why is it now only allowing one video stream to play at a time?!?!?

It Does the Job but the youtube stream in vlc is not smooth i thought of playing it in 3x but vlc stream sucked !

All the reveiws complaining that it doesn't work on chrome os are silly. The real issue is that the quality of the video is lower in vlc with the extention then it is normally (at least with the youtube video I tested) so unless you're really short on time and/or storage space and really love vlc then your probably better off using the sites native video player or downloading the video and running it in normal vlc.
