Allow you to use two finger scroll on your Mac trackpad in Google Maps.
Install ScrollMaps and you can use two-finger scroll in various online maps.
It's designed for Mac trackpads but because of the simple mechanism, it should work on all trackpads, or even a Magic Mouse. To zoom in the maps, simply use the pinch gesture. Inertial Scrolling works on the Mac, as well as on other operating systems that supports it natively. There are additional options in the options page, together with a small embedded map to try out different configurations.

- OpenStreetMap
- and a few others

Permissions:
When ScrollMaps is installed, it asks for permission to access different Google Maps domains so it can activate automatically. Those permissions can be turned off in Chrome's extension settings page, in which case ScrollMaps will only activate if you click on the extension icon on the top right.
For other mapping sites, like MapBox, ArcGIS, Apple MapKit JS, and sites using Google Maps API or iframe, ScrollMaps does not activate by default, and requires clicking on ScrollMaps' extension icon. If you click on the browser icon again after activating, a dialog will pop up allowing you to enable ScrollMaps automatically on that domain or on all sites.

To activate ScrollMaps on a site outside of the google.com domain, click on the ScrollMaps extension icon to the right of the URL bar. Auto-activate ScrollMaps on all sites you visit, you can click on the icon again and select "Auto-activate on all sites".

- All permissions are now optional; permission revocations are now fully supported. In the Manage Extensions page in your browser you can now remove ScrollMaps permission to access google.com/maps and maps.google.com. If they are revoked, then you'll need to click on the extension "browser action" icon to grant permission before ScrollMaps can execute.

Works great with apple trackpad, but makes mouse wheel unusable for zoom. Would be nice to separate settings for trackpad and mouse.

Does what it says on the tin. Provides the map scrolling I realized I was missing on my MacBook Pro trackpad with minimal jank. Combined with the existing pinch-to-zoom, exploring maps is a very pleasurable experience. Thanks, Maurice!

WOW THANK YOU! I thought I was crazy and I was the only one with this issue. On my macbook from just 2017, i could enable "three finger dragging" and i could use three fingers to scroll google maps with inertia, but now on my M1 macbook, even when i turn three finger dragging on, i can scroll when my fingers are touching the trackpad, then when i take them off, no inertia, it just sticks. It is really a first world problem, but when it makes such a difference to the every day use of google maps. Thank you for creating this extension!!! I'm so glad i found it, it restore the natural, fluid and smooth usage of google maps on a macbook.

I hoped this extension would fix zooming on a Mac with a Magic Trackpad. Google Maps zooms from outer space to grass level with only 1-inch of finger movement. This extension worked on the Google Maps embedded on its configuration page, but not on maps.google.com

I love this and Google Maps should have done this long time ago. One thing I find annoying with this extension is that if I want to move to the left, it wants to go back (because the gesture coincides with the "go back"). One solution is simply copy and paste the current url into a new tab so that there is no page that I can go back, but this should be fixed.

Has every little option that you would never want to configure, but doesn't have the option to let you scroll without holding command. Scrolling should be default, and then hold command button for the navigation. The smooth navigation feature is useless for anyone that enables three finger click-to-drag.

How wonderful! Doesn't work 100% of the time, but it's VERY useful when it's working the way it should. This is basically how Google Maps should be like natively. So silly we need an extension to make it behave in an intuitive way.

This is a great idea, and the map scrolling worked great for me. However, when this extension was enabled, I became unable to open PDFs on chrome. I don't really see the connection, but I troubleshooted and I'm pretty sure its this extension that's causing the problem. Fix needed!
