User Guide:
- Refresh tab after installing to activate the extension.
- Default For Windows: Press and drag Right Mouse to pan.
- Default For Ubuntu: Press and drag Middle Mouse to pan.
- Default For Mac: Press and Hold Ctrl and move pointer to pan.
- For Stylus users, it's recommended to setup one of the buttons on your stylus to be Ctrl Key and use that button to activate panning.
- See Options page for more details. (After installation, Right Click on this extension's icon, then click Options).
- To quickly turn extension On/Off, pin the extension icon, then clicking on the icon will switch it on/off.
- This extension works best with mouses, stylus drawing tablets, laptop touchpad (only in case it doesn't provide convenient panning by gesture).

Change Log:
1.9.1 - 13/10/2025
- Update chrome manifest v3 ad republish.
- Improve codebase quality.
- Nicer icons.

1.9.0 - 21/04/2021
- Fix initialization bug on Mac.
- Remove cursor styling.
- Update option text.

1.5.0 - 18/04/2021
- Update option UI.
- Update default behaviour for different operating systems.
- Remove unnecessary permission request and republished.

1.4.0 - 18/10/2017
- Fix issue with Chrome 61+.
- Fix extension's auto reload mechanism when extension update.
*Since emitting custom Wheel Event no longer has any effect on scrolling, the extension now falls back to update element.scrollTop & scrollLeft directly, which might cause layout issues with certain websites while scrolling.
*As you might have noticed, this extension also no longer works with chrome's pdf reader. After an update some time ago, Chrome's pdf readers has started to run within a hidden internal extension window and there seems to be no way for other extension to manipulate scroll position of that window.

Features
- Natural Sliding and Frictions.
- Option page to change and preview settings.
- Settings syncs across tabs.
- Turn On and Off easily by clicking on Extension Icon.

Hand Tool for Google Chrome makes scrolling any webpage similar to:
- Pdf Readers
- Photoshop Hand Tool
- Google Map Panning Hand
- Scrolling a smart phone...
- Grab-and-Drag extension on Firefox

It has worked perfectly for me. Highly recommended! Lots of people here also have very good opinions about it. use it to read books, comics, etc.Even though I searched a lot, this is indeed the one whose work has been splendid.

Step 1: As of 3/6/2025, if you're as in love with this extension as I am, go into Extensions > Manage Extensions, and re-enable it. Who knows how long this will continue to work, so... Step 2: Look for an alternative to Google Chrome because it sucks now.

Can't see this "Hand Tool is Scrolling Speed is 1.0 Activated by" pale gray settings text on the dark grey background. Clicking on 'Activated by' to choose right mouse button for example, does not do anything. Hand tool title is misleading as it does not work like a hand tool in Photoshop would or any other app that would have a workplace larger than screen and needed moving around. Coordinating ctrl click (on Mac) with mouse movement is incredibly frustrating. Moving a page in desired direction often results in inertial movement in opposite direction by letting the ctrl go a little bit after finishing the move (to return the mouse back into original place for the next scroll) or the ctrl key release having a delayed registration by plugin.

Doesn't work in an image tab, can't scroll a big pic.

It works fine. My main issues are that it does not work on the PDF viewer on the Edge browser, which is the primary reason I wanted it. The other major flaw is that it cannot work with just the left mouse button. You should be able to click it on when you need it, use it to scroll with the left mouse button, then if you need to highlight text you click it off and use the left mouse button to highlight text. That is the way it has worked on every other app or program I have seen that has a hand or grabber tool. Most of the time you do not need the hand tool on, only when you are viewing a zoomed document.

It doesn't allow to use basic Ctrl+C Ctrl+V shortcuts on the web pages since I switch its activator from Right Mouse Button to Ctrl+Middle Mouse Button. This sacrifice simply doesn't worth it. It's pretty handy sometimes though.

Just needed something to easily scroll side-to-side on Azure Devops boards - this does the trick. No more ctrl+scroll for me :D

Man, we do really need to scroll by Left Mouse only! Take a look on the Grab'n'Drag on Firefox — they disable grabbing over text and links (customizable).

This is sweet man, just what I've been looking for. I have a decent mouse at work but the scroll wheel is sectioned and not smooth-scrolling, so it scrolls in lines. Even with the smoothscroll extension page navigation wasn't as smooth as I wanted it to be and I got the idea to use the hand tool that I use in Adobe Acrobat because I enjoy reading PDFs with that. BINGO! I found the same thing for chrome and am really enjoying my first 4 minutes with it lol. P.S. It also has a "sliding" effect where u can pull the page down for example and it will keep going for a little bit as it loses momentum!

Holding CTRL blocks all other CTRL shortcuts, even when the hand tool is deactivated. I can't even copy&paste without right clicking the mouse anymore. :(

This works great except sometimes even if you drag the right click menu comes up. Could be useful to add some hotkey options.
