Image from store Custom New Tab
Description from store Chrome does not let you customize the new tab page. The new tab page always opens a custom Google Search page, and Chrome extensions do not work on this page. This extension lets you point the new tab page to a URL of your choice. It can be Google.com, your company's homepage, or a blank page. It is lightweight on your browser (<50kb - compared to, for example, Grammarly, which is 36MB), has no tracking, and is straightforward to use. Some popular choices: 1) Google - https://google.com 2) Voice In Notepad - https://dictanote.co/voicein/notepad/ 3) Bing - https://www.bing.com 4) ChatGPT - https://chat.openai.com 5) Blank Page - about:blank You can point the new tab to a local file URL too. A local file URL looks like file:///C:/Documents/test.html on Windows file:///Users/anil/test.html on Mac. To get the local file URL of a file on your system, open the file in a new tab in your browser. Then copy the URL shown in the address bar. You can set the URL to an internal page like chrome://apps too. Customization: 1) Focus on the address bar on the new tab page: When checked, the focus and cursor are in the address bar when you open a new tab page. When unchecked, the focus is on the page. If you want to disable the custom new tab extension, you can do so by going to chrome://extensions and disabling this extension.

  • (2023-05-27) Chris S: This creator is someone you should support. Period. Short story long: I am making a small search tool that uses this extension to open a new tab and remove ~3 extra clicks and it sort of hinges on being able to auto focus on the page, rather than the address bar (which is what this extension does by default). Upon emailing the creator, he told me what I needed to do to remove this functionality but unfortunately when I tried, it would "corrupt" the extension. I already felt like I was wasting this person's time so I told them that I appreciated their help, but I would not be able to use their solution to my problem and wished them a good day. To my surprise, I woke up to an email saying they uploaded a new version of the extension that would allow me to easily disable this function and that it's pending approval from Chrome... This person went above and beyond to help a small creator out and for that, I really appreciate them. Again, thank you, kind soul :)
  • (2023-04-29) Ed Bockelman: Exactly what I was looking for. There's another, more popular extension to do the same thing, but this one works as well or better so I wanted to give it some love.
  • (2023-02-03) Chris Hawryluk: Jan 9, 2023 Exactly what I wanted. Use a custom site as your new tab. Beats me having to press the home icon or the site again when I can just simply use this. SearchThat.net has all my links in the speed dial so this awesome. Thanks. Feb 2, 2023 Update: Still loving it. I don't need to deal with any basic speed dial page. I have all the functions I need from ST. Never remove this from the web store. If you do, I'll take it over and keep it up.
