Install this extension to set Norton Safe Search as your default search provider, home and new tab page for Chrome.
Norton Safe Search helps defend you from identity thieves and online scams by warning you of dangerous sites when you search, shop or browse online.
Norton Safe Search provides you added peace of mind from online threats by:
- Marking unsafe web results
- Providing you with safety ratings on search results
- Letting you know which shopping sites are safe.
Note that this extension enables resetting Norton Safe Search as your default search provider, home and new tab page on Chrome.

This extension uses permissions that produce the following Chrome messages to perform necessary functions within the extension.
“Read and change all your data on the websites you visit”
Shown for permissions needed for detecting online risks on all types of pages you browse.
“Read your browsing history”
Shown for permissions needed for:
- displaying a block page when risky content is detected.
- displaying site safety rating information reliably during tab manipulations by Chrome or the user.
“Manage your downloads”
Shown for permission needed for removing malicious downloads.
“Change your search settings to: searchsafe.norton.com”
Shown for permissions needed for delivery of search results through the Norton Safe Search service.
“Replace the page you see when opening a new tab.”
Shown for permissions needed for changing the new tab and home page to Norton Safe Search.
“Display notifications”
Shown for permissions needed for showing alerts when important changes happen for protection activity or when authentication is required for certain features.
“New background app added

- (2024-08-29) Andy Boyd: My wife accidentally installed this when I told her to install Norton Safe Web (which unlike this extension, is useful). She immediately could not search anymore, because she would get 3 pages of "sponsored links" before she got to what she searched for. Basically, TLDR. This extension is doing what it is trying to prevent, it is feeding you garbage pages you didn't search for, ads, for their sponsors to make money, to the point where it is useless. Basically doing what some malware does.

The forced home page and search engine are an insult to their user base. After a bit of research and testing, I found that Bitdefender - Traffic Light does what this Norton extension used to, without the extra garbage. You may have to use an alternate default search engine than Google for Traffic light to work, however anything is better than Norton's proprietary sEaRcH eNgInE.

I can't find an option to change it back to my previous setting of opening links in the same tab. - (2021-07-26) CoffeePuma: Franchement un outils vraiment parfait! Je l'utilise sur mon navigateur Opéra GX grâce à une compatibilité native avec les extensions Google Chrome! Et combien de fois il m'a protégé des sites web dangereux! Mais je dois également signaler un bug. Après quelques jours à utiliser l'extension il se met à un moment ou un autre totalement inactif lorsque je clique sur le "?" la page qui s'ouvre est toutes blanches, rien ne s'affiche. Et pire à chaque fois que j'essaye de réinstaller l'extension pour corriger le problème il se remet à être inactif. Je suis sous Windows 10 et mon navigateur est Opéra GX avec la compatibilité des extensions Google Chrome.
