• (2025-03-03) Jason Fong: After testing using the net-internals chrome tools, the extension appears to indeed lower overall data usage. With a ~6 minute video (144p, static image video) using the extension showed 4338 KB used on average, while 7588 KB was used without the extension. Hopefully this helps to clear up anyone's doubts. It would be nice if the replacement splash screen were customizable, for example having just a black screen instead of having the text displayed. Great extension otherwise. Edit: The video is now replaced with the thumbnail which I think this a nice compromise. 5 stars! Edit2: No longer works.

Due to the unpredictable status of this extension and very few (if any) updates from the developer, uninstalling and replacing with Music Mode for YouTube which seems to work much better than this.
