I was originally skeptical about using it since I have never used an ad blocker before, but after a recent situation with malicious ads I decided to search for a good ad blocker. This one works miracles! Not only are the malicious ads gone that I was worried about but Youtube seems to have no more ads for me as well. 10/10, especially for a free browser!

Probably YouTube have the eyes on this extension and will do all for never will work. Not sure the developer can do something, because YouTube is a lot bigger that him. And YouTube (well Alphabet witch own Google too and a lot of other, what we call monopoly) make billion of money with ads.

• (2025-06-22) Spartan: It doesn't have an option to import your whitelisted websites. You have to do it one by one upon each visit if you don't want a particular website from being blocked.
• (2025-06-22) Jay R.: I believe highly in Ad Blockers, specifically on user-content sites like YouTube where they're just hosting the content and make money off those who create it, without proper restitution to those creators. If the actual content creators, who bring BILLIONS of monthly views, have to go outside YouTube to places like Patreon and Nebula, in order to make a decent wage for the 8+ hours they put into a video, then YouTube doesn't deserve the ridiculous amount of ad revenue they get off of them. Same for wiki and news-like sites that spam dozens of advertisements but, in reality, take very little actual effort and money on the back-end to operate (I host several) and still rely on user content (mostly free) to exist. That said, these sites, especially YouTube, constantly fight against these ad-blockers because they're greedy buggers. Advertising is the biggest scam anyway, especially with things like TV where you pay $100's of dollars just for them to deliver it to your home (I mean, aren't the ads supposed to pay for the shows?)... With fewer and fewer ad-blockers on the market, it gets easier and easier for sites like YouTube to figure out how to get around them. It's been several weeks now since the last YouTube update broke most of the existing ad-blockers. While "uBlock Origin Lite" stopped working, just like the rest of the ad-blockers, it was one of the first ones back up and blocking. You just had to remove and reinstall to get it back to working. That's why I still use it, and why it's getting 5 stars from me. Sure, it's missing several options that "uBlock Origin" had, but since the non-lite version has been removed by Google for "violations"... (eyeroll) ...This is our best option.

• (2025-06-21) Tj Tj: As of 6/21/25, videos are taking a while to load, with the "experiencing interruptions? find out why" pop-up appearing. After a couple of seconds, the video does play without ads as usual, but I thought it would be important to mention in case this is something that can be fixed.
• (2025-06-21) J J: Update: UBO Lite breaks sports website SI.com UBlock Origin Lite isn't anywhere near as effective as UBO, however, given the new MV3 rules UBOLite works very well and seems to work as well if not better than Ghostery or Adguard. Now UBO Lite has an element zapper to block those other pesky ads manually, it didn't have that recently. I'll keep this over any of the other adblockers.

• (2025-06-18) Tim Holloway: Works perfectly. Maybe better than the original though sometimes I miss the ability to customize filters so I can block the clickable cards at the end of YouTube videos. I only realized today that setting it to Complete instead of Optimal was slowing down web browsing quite a lot. Now I'm so grateful for a speedy Chromebook that I wanted to come show a little love for the most valuable extension I run on Chrome. I think uBlock Origin Lite actually allows your browser to run faster than the classic, discontinued extension did, probably due to the simplification of its design.

• (2025-06-11) Kevin: [WORKING WORKAROUND] Go to google and look up "Here's a working Youtube adblocker (for when uBlock, etc fall over)", click on the first result that should take you to reddit, once there you will see a post by u/damnThosePeskyAds explaining step by step. It's only 3 steps, it's quick and easy and works 99% of the time blocking ads and shorts. (with the exception of age restricted videos or videos with embedding disabled) It's working as of 06/11/25. RIP ublock origin, the lite version just has nothing on the original. EDIT: Just wanted to clarify the project is called goodtube, you can find the updated script on their github.

It has started recently being flagged by Youtube, so eventually I will probably have to swap unless they do a significant update. having come from the first Ublock Origin, it feels really lackluster, but since Google isnt allowing us to keep using UbO I will suffer with this until a better option becomes available or it gets fully blocked by Youtube
