- (2021-06-20) Zuri Coleman: I used this extension for YEARS. At least since 2012. This update sucks. I tried to make it work but Yahoo is the worst and I miss the full forecast.
- (2021-06-02) Chris Small: I loved this extension and didn't even mind the recent changes to layout or the optional pay version. However, hijacking my search bar is just unacceptable. I gave it a month to see if I got used to the change in workflow, but it has proven to be too disruptive. RIP Currently.
- (2021-05-26) Alan Wynn: I miss the old extension, have used it for years. As others have done, also purchased themes to support the developers. Even attempted to reach out a few times, to explain why the weather wasn't working (shared Google API keys, services shutting down etc.) but no response. Now I have seen the new version, and its monthly/yearly subscription, and it feels money grabbing. Where is the loyalty for users who purchased themes in previous versions. Where did the simplistic design go. This new version feels like it was thrown together to get just a working version out the door, and try to earn some revenue from subscriptions. Would have loved to give it a 5 star review, but I can't due to the updates.
- (2021-05-07) Matt McCloud: Was great till it went commercial a few weeks back. They added a search bar you have to pay to remove. I'm choosing to just remove the whole thing. Keep looking for alternatives, there are plenty better out there.
- (2021-05-06) Jammy McJammerson: this extension will hijack your search bar when you hit a new tab. forces you to use yahoo search and the search is flagged as being a referral. I understand needing to make an income from your work but hijacking my search if I forget to manually click in the search bar every single time is absolutely unacceptable. At best the dev is receiving a small referral kickback, but at worst who knows what kind of tracking is being done without your knowledge. from the privacy policy: "DeviceInformation – This is information related to the device bywhich you access the Services, such asa hardware modeland operating systemversion. - (2021-04-13) Edon Abazi: Used to like it but the recent updates with the search bar ruined it. Uninstalled it, and installed "Momentum" instead.
- (2021-04-06) Matt Coleman: Used to be an awesome simplistic splash screen for your empty browser window. Used it for years. Now it begs you to subscribe to their premium service and forces the cursor to the search engine that they have chosen. Uninstalling and looking for an alternative.
- (2021-04-03) Damien Park: Hate this new update. Quit trying to force me to use Yahoo search. My browser has a search bar for a reason. I'm finding a replacement, clearly you guys have no idea what your users want.
- (2021-04-01) Lorenzo Amantillado: STOP FORCING THE CURSOR ONTO YOUR OWN SEARCH BAR!! I have no issues about the search bar visually, but the cursor overwriting just makes your app not even worth using at all.
- (2021-03-31) Andrew Keyser: The old version of this extension used to be awesome, simple, fast. There was no "custom search bar". The new one is good too. Aside from the gripe of needing a pro subscription to access some more advanced features. But there is one *glaring* problem (in my eyes): Currently has its own, distinct search box that takes focus when you open a new tab. All searches made using the Currently search box are sent through their own search proxy (query.currentlyweather.com) and then sent to Yahoo! instead of using the Google Search engine that the browser is meant to use. This is broken. Remove the search box, the browser already has one. I just want the time and the weather. And what are you doing with my search queries, anyway?
- (2021-03-31) Udo Branco: I really hated this last update that forces you to use the app bar. I am used to open a new tab via keyboard and start typing on the chrome bar directly but now i have to click on it because the extension is FORCING to use its bar, which then search over yahoo (like serious yahoo??). If i could disable this fine but there is no such thing on settings. So I am really considering removing this extension and look for another similars. Edit: So you solution was to add the option to remove the search tab as a premium feature!?really? You expect us to pay to remove something you added in the 1st place? This is the biggest joke Ive seen in ages. "Lets add an anoying feature and demand people payment to remove it". Thanks for all this years we have been togheter but bye bye.
- (2021-03-31) Asish Benny: The extension works great now and has fixed weather gathering bugs from previous updates. It seems devs are back and active on working to keep the extension updated. It is working smoothly. However, I would like to request that there be a toggle to not use the search bar that comes with the extension, I am not a fan of the search engine being used and would rather every time I open a tab to be able to type directly into the address bar instead. This was not an issue on previous versions and would like to at least see this as an option going forward. Other than that you're doing a great job! Keep it up Currently team!
- (2021-03-29) Shepard Drake: It used to be fine, but I HATE that now whenever I open a new tab, the text cursor always moves to some built-in, gross non-Google search engine. It might sound like a small gripe, but when you are so used to pushing ctrl-t to open a new tab and start typing in a URL or search from history, and then you realize you're not typing there and have to grab the mouse and move it to the proper place, it gets VERY annoying after a while. I literally removed it for that reason alone.
- (2021-03-17) Jose Varela: Have used this extension for YEARS. While I can be sympathetic to the developers for adding a search bar, as they can probably benefit financially from driving traffic, I cannot forgive the fact that they *force* your cursor into their search bar. This has absolutely ruined my workflow. Further, they don't even provide the option to disable this forced search, nor do they allow you to switch to a different search engine (which is admittedly much less important than the former). As such, I have no option but to disable the extension. Fix this Currently!
- (2021-03-12) Phillip Thomas: I've had this for a very long time. Doesn't seem to display weather anymore. And not being able to choose the search engine will be a deal breaker. It's chrome, I already have the omnibox. Why do I need a search bar?
- (2021-03-11) David Röhr: One of my favorite extensions. I have no turned it off as the focus to search field and the search defaults to Yahoo (without any option to change it). Will not use it until these things are fixed/reverted.
- (2021-03-09) Mark Levant: Used to be a 5 star extension, but now they changed the search to yahoo. What a pain in the A! at least give us an option to change the search engine.
- (2021-03-09) Ben Rapin: This used to be a nice extension. Forcing search to Yahoo, and pushing focus to the search bar is awful. Please fix! Simpler was better.
- (2021-03-08) Jacquilynn Vicicondi: love the new update SORT OF. i love the new starry night look for sure but i HATE yahoo. i cant change it and it automatically starts typing in that field instead of the address bar. its...super annoying. PLS fix this!!!
- (2021-03-08) Anthony Lim: The new forced search bar is such a bad addition and inconvience to what was overall a really good, clean and minimal extension.
- (2021-03-07) Rob Deckert: I used to enjoy this extension but with the inability to change search to Google, I am really disliking it now. Going to be uninstalling!
- (2021-03-06) Doug Vann: Was a fan for 8 years. I have the same complaints everyone else mentioned since the recent update. Now that opening a new tab puts focus on a Search Bar with Yahoo results.... I'm out. I will check back later and see if they remove this very damaging new feature.
- (2021-03-06) Scott McIntosh: After 9 years of using this extension, I'm removing it after the recent update.
- (2021-03-05) Simon Byrne: I agree with many of the other reviewers here: I used to love this extension. The latest updates have ruined a great tool. I hate the new design, but that's not what's prompting me to remove this extension. It's the fact that opening a new tab puts the focus on the Currently search bar (instead of the browser default address bar) and so: (1) I can't type URLs in now, and (2) it's forcing me to use Yahoo. Nope.
- (2021-03-05) Brandon Chan: This extension search function goes redirects to a tracker, then yahoo. It's unsafe and should be uninstalled. It's a real shame the dev team or new dev team tried to slip one past users.
- (2021-03-05) Michael Ware: Adding my voice to the chorus. The new search bar and forcing my cursor to land there ruined this extension. The new font makes it even worse. I occasionally use Yahoo, but this change actually discourages me from going there. I feel like this extension is trying to trick me into using Yahoo and that is a sure way to encourage me to go out of my way to avoid their site (and to uninstall this extension).
- (2021-03-05) Nick Kugaevsky: It was a perfect (may be the best) extension for new tab. I've used it for several years. But latest updates brought search string which uses yahoo as search provider and focused by default. So, I need to do one more click every time I open a new tab to make Chrome address bar active. User can't remove search string or change search engine. It's a pity, but bye-bye Currently.
- (2021-03-05) Joshua-Benjamin Marrald: Appreciate the recent update, I've enjoyed the clean look of Currently for a while now and it's nice that the weather feature finally got fixed. I don't enjoy the fact that when I open up a new tab, I have to reselect my url bar to type in an address -- would appreciate the option to opt out of the search bar on screen. Seems redundant given that this is an extension on Chrome.... the omnibar is an omnibar for a reason.
- (2021-03-05) Rob: Please give the option to turn off the search feature on the extension, if that is fixed it gets a 5 star.
- (2021-03-05) Anuj Saluja: This used to be a good extension, now it just forces the input to its search field instead of my browser's address bar. And I have to do extra click on address bar to go to the URL I want to go to, or to do Google search.
- (2021-03-04) Istvan Kosi: Used to be a great new tab extension for many years, but with the recent update the visual settings are dumbed down, dark text is illegible, but most of all, it hijacks the cursor and forces yahoo search. YAHOO. In 2021. Seriously?!? Uninstalled. :(
- (2021-03-04) Emily Spence: Like many of the other reviewers, I have used currently for years (and paid for it) but the addition of the yahoo search bar and the hijacking of my cursor placement is a deal-breaker.
- (2021-03-04) Matt Radcliffe: This was one of my favorite extensions, but alas they destroyed it with the latest update. I don't want to use yahoo search in chrome and I don't need a search bar when there's one in my browser. Peace and cheers, it's been a great however many years, but this is now removed.
- (2021-03-04) Rafał Krych: Nice that that celsius degrees and 24h time is added back but another irritating feature appeared. Everytime I'm opening a new tab in Chrome (Ctrl+T) this extension steals focus, so instead of new tab address I'm typing into that "search" field and eventually if I press Enter it starts searching on Yahoo?? OMG I didn't know that this search service still exist until this recent update. Would be nice to have possibility to disable that "Search" somehow. Maybe also to choose different search service if someone is really using this function.
- (2021-03-04) K. Davis: I won't give it 1 star. But disabling this extension until they stop making a new tab default to their search box. When I hit ctrl T or the new tab icon, I'm ready to start typing. Instead, every time I bring up a new tab I have to take the mouse and click inside the main search bar again. This wasn't always the case. This is a recent change. I'll give it a month and then I'll re-enable. If the behavior doesn't change I'll remove for good.
- (2021-03-04) Ameen Ajmeri: used to be amazing, then it was ruined, and they recently updated it to look really nice again. but now the search is powered by yahoo with no option to change engines? after using this for years and years, I will look for alternatives now
- (2021-03-03) mubix: Used to love this extension. Now that it pulls my cursor down into their search bar for Yahoo search instead of my default one. Now I'm getting rid of it.
- (2021-03-03) Aidan Abbott: Used to like it a lot, but very annoying now. Default yahoo search has killed it for me, when opening new tab cursor auto goes to search box and very annoying to move back to search bar to use google. At least allow to to change the search provider (if there is this option I can't find it. Also no longer being able to specify where you want weather for is annoying. I don't want to give location permissions.
- (2021-03-03) Jesse Scanlon: See the other reviews... Used this as a nice new tab screen for years, now it has a cursor-grabbing search box that uses yahoo search, and you cant change it. Immediate uninstall, farewell currently.
- (2021-03-02) Владимир Реутов: yahoo
- (2021-03-02) Deanna: Added some random search bar for yahoo? When I open a new tab it autofocuses that search bar instead of my browser address bar. Terrible update, I'm removing this extension
- (2021-03-02) Ben Frank: i've used this since it was first released as jsut a web page. the fact that it forces the cursor to their terrible search field instead of the address/search bar RUINS my workflow. i'm so used to opening a new tab and being able to type a URL, not search for a URL on an inferior search provider. and why can't we choose that search provider at least? I have no use for the resource-hogging starry night animation. since i have to give this a star and can't review it as zero stars, i'll justify that one star by saying at least the weather icons and such look nice.
- (2021-03-01) Reece Webb: This used to be my favorite new tab extension, but with the latest update they removed the ability to turn off the search field. It's really annoying and totally breaks my workflow. Uninstalling.
- (2021-03-01) Chris Davis: I have been using this for years, even when it went unsupported. LOVED this extension. Now, I am getting weather from another location on some machines I am signed into (all at the same location/network). It all of a sudden defaults to the search bar in the webpage (Yahoo) - NO THANKS! Sure do miss the old plain Classic mode... Sometimes things don't need to change to be awesome. :-/
- (2021-03-01) Miguel Echemendia: Why did they ruin this extension? It had beautiful large light face type and weather and now it's all gone replaced by a very ugly interface. I don't get it.
- (2021-03-01) Tooki: Was good, but the new search "feature" absolutely ruined it. If your app makes the Chrome user experience worse rather than better, you've failed as a developer. Uninstalled.
- (2021-03-01) Steve: I've loved this over the years. Your last update is BAD. When I open a new tab, the cursor goes from the Google URL to the built in search (which I don't want). I have to do an extra click to move the cursor back. Get rid of this. I would literally pay to get rid of the built in search which goes to Yahoo. Terrible to force a search engine. Tell me how to get rid of this.
