Description from extension meta
The Hacker's Browser. Vimium provides keyboard shortcuts for navigation and control in the spirit of Vim.
Description from store
*NOTE* Google does not allow Vimium to run on this Chrome Web Store page and the Chrome New Tab page, by design. Sorry about that!
*NOTE* Chrome has some alarmist messaging around the permissions that Vimium needs to run. Really all it's asking for is that Vimium's javascript be loaded into every page. Don't be alarmed. Vimium never talks to any servers and does absolutely nothing with your data. Read the open source code if you're curious.
For more information about rebinding your keys and how to use many of Vimium's features, see here: https://github.com/philc/vimium/blob/master/README.md
Modifier keys are specified as <c-x>, <m-x>, <a-x> for ctrl+x, meta+x, and alt+x respectively.
Navigating the current page:
? show the help dialog for a list of all available keys
h scroll left
j scroll down
k scroll up
l scroll right
gg scroll to top of the page
G scroll to bottom of the page
d scroll down half a page
u scroll up half a page
f open a link in the current tab
F open a link in a new tab
r reload
gs view source
i enter insert mode -- all commands will be ignored until you hit esc to exit
yy copy the current url to the clipboard
yf copy a link url to the clipboard
gf cycle forward to the next frame
Navigating to new pages:
o Open URL, bookmark, or history entry
O Open URL, bookmark, history entry in a new tab

Using find:
/ enter find mode -- type your search query and hit enter to search or esc to cancel
n cycle forward to the next find match
N cycle backward to the previous find match
Navigating your history:
H go back in history
L go forward in history
Manipulating tabs:
J, gT go one tab left
K, gt go one tab right
g0 go to the first tab
g$ go to the last tab
t create tab
x close current tab
X restore closed tab (i.e. unwind the 'x' command)
T search through your open tabs
Additional advanced browsing commands:
]] Follow the link labeled 'next' or '>'. Helpful for browsing paginated sites.
[[ Follow the link labeled 'previous' or '<'. Helpful for browsing paginated sites.
<a-f> open multiple links in a new tab
gi focus the first (or n-th) text input box on the page
gu go up one level in the URL hierarchy
Vimium supports command repetition so, for example, hitting '5t' will open 5 tabs in rapid succession. ESC (or <c-[>) will clear any partial commands in the queue and will also exit insert and find modes.

The ability to open links, switch tabs, and scroll without touching the mouse is a huge productivity boost. Highly recommended for anyone who loves keyboard shortcuts!
- (2025-03-04) Patrick Cho: Hands down the best extension for vim users! Improvements I can think of: - a caret or cursor for Visual mode at least. It is hard to know where my cursor is when selecting - Integration with with caret mode or built-in cursor would be the best - Cheatsheet page has "Advanced commands" view. It is a bit hard to tell which are advanced command or not. It would be amazing if we can visually distinguish between these two types. Thank you for your amazing work!
- (2025-02-21) André de Jager: If you know vim keys, this is a must have. Combine with https://www.homerow.app/ and you'll never need to touch a mouse again. Needs to have settings sync.
- (2025-02-14) Vincent Markiet: This extension is amazing. Has changed my browser experience and made me 10X faster than using the mouse. If you pair it with a operating system based shortcut app such as shortcat and you will even forget you have a mouse. My only regret is not knowing this earlier. My colleagues at work are getting annoyed how much I talk about this extension.
- (2025-02-11) Nowhere Man: This is one of the best extensions you can find, hands down.
- (2025-02-09) Arwildo: It's really help when coding, I don't need to touch the mouse, thank you so much!
- (2025-02-04) César Saucedo Cancio: A must have on each browser install i do, best ever
- (2025-01-28) Haris Saif: For keyboard power users.
- (2025-01-27) Henrik: Best extension 🥰
- (2025-01-24) HARPA AI: Navigation with [f] key is by far the most useful. However, the UX, quality and accessibility can be pushed much further. That is why we implemented our alternative plugin, BrowseCut.
- (2025-01-10) Emil Schwarz: Sadly apparently every website I use (tried 5 or so different ones) besites google search does not allow to run this so sadly cant use it.
- (2025-01-04) Christopher Bortz: There is only one command I think is missing in this great tool. I often have hundred's of browser tabs open and I wish there were a command to highlight/blink the current tab so I knew which one it was. Is it possible for you to add this?
- (2024-12-24) Croco: best of best things ever.
- (2024-12-14) Elliot: Seems great at first, but after a while it seems to cause terrible slowdowns. I am using the Brave browser btw.
- (2024-12-11) Zak McCracken: so nice! it does less than surfingkeys but is far less overwhelming and the bindings mostly make sense. I don't like the "yt" for duplicate. Also "J" and "K" should be swapped in my mind. But that is easy to remap. the size and look of link hints is customisable so you can make letters bigger.
- (2024-11-22) Srini Maiya: Love it. Thanks for the amazing work :)
- (2024-11-03) purushtottam tandon: amazing tool !
- (2024-10-22) Lance Jordan: Super awesome extension, I've been using for many years. Would love to give 5 stars but there's a bug/flaw I wish could get fixed. Search doesn't work on Confluence documents that have a sidebar. It only searches in the sidebar itself, not in the body of the document! Please fix this! Also, feature request, can you add the browser behavior of search which seems to both handle this issue and also highlights all matches, making it easier to find many matches at once. Thanks!
- (2024-10-07) K Diaz: Been looking for a way to use my mouse less. Wanted something that worked without any issues and this met my needs. After a day of using, going back to a mouse to scroll the internet feels off. Thanks to the Dev for building this. Great work. Highly recommend.
- (2024-10-06) 黃彥龍: mouse free on chrome
- (2024-09-29) Richard Depetris: Amazing extension, makes it so much easier to navigate the web efficiently. One little piece of feedback: It seems that "f" will open links in new tabs while "F" opens them in the current tab, but "?" menu says the opposites. Otherwise, really great tool. EDIT: I realized that this bug isn't entirely true. This bug occurs specifically if you select "F" and the type the link selection keys in capital. Whereas, if you select "f" and type the link selection keys in lowercase it will behave as expected. Seems like the capitalization of the selection keys somehow inverts the operation of "f" or "F".
