Dragon Web Extension for Chrome
For Dragon 13 or later, this extension gives Dragon's full power in Chrome:
- clicking objects by name (e.g. say "Click Contact" for a link named Contact)
- enhanced dictating and editing (note: in Google Docs, you can work directly or indirectly)
See our video!
To enable the extension, click “Add to Chrome,” confirm, then refresh (bookmark this page in case you later want it).

- (2024-07-22) muxxxxy: NB. The most important point comes at the end of this review. The company's response to the problem with this specific app (even though there is never any response from its originators/Dragon/Nuance to these comments online) seems that we must buy the new update. I wonder how many of us in the throes of the 2023 economic mess in the UK can afford hundreds of pounds primarily, it seems, to fix this software, especially when this app is known not to fix anything at all...?! I've never known any company to charge such a huge amount, if anything, for updating software which we've already bought. After months of reinstalling this app every day and more than once every day when switching off the laptop, I found little option but to budget accordingly. I bought the new upgrade, only to find that I have still had to reinstall this app every time I close the computer. Plus, foolishly as this has little to do with the problem, I had hoped that the new upgrade together with this app might just conceivably enable voice recognition to work not merely on Microsoft Excel, but on Access. It doesn't. And aside from Microsoft's own products, Dragon appears not to work comprehensively on some necessary applications anyway. Two important points that I hope will help others: After paying for the new version of Dragon, I still have to uninstall and re-instalI the extension here every time that I re-open Chrome. I've no idea how to stop it happening. So, even after paying the exorbitant amount for the Dragon upgrade, the problem with constantly uninstalling and reinstalling this extension continues. And even then, it doesn't work on many websites, particularly in my specific field of work. I wonder if the problem is merely that this app which we've all been using here is, quite simply, years out of date. The Dragon professional medical version has been updated much more recently! At least that app has been updated even if this one here has not. I'm not at all sure it's just the app which is the problem. Perhaps Dragon itself is failing its clients = us. The main reason That they have required us to pay for the upgrade of the software overall is surely that before long, technical support will again be removed from the previous version of Dragon and there will again be no more automatic updates. That happened to us with the penultimate upgrade just a few years ago. Be warned: we may expect the company to do the same again And require us to upgrade before we can have access to some aspects of the software.
- (2024-05-08) William Reilly: The extension has always had problems, now frequently asking if I want to restore it in Chrome...then sometimes works and others not...I just restored it and not working at all.
- (2023-11-21) Nick Boyd: The same as everybody else's complaint. Keeps crashing and requires restarting. Come on guys invest a little make this thing work! Update: A year later, after spending hundreds of dollars upgrading to V16, this useless piece of software still keeps crashing. Come on, guys, sort it out!
- (2023-07-13) Lance Burdett: Chrome continues to remove the web extension, so frustrating at having to reinstall
- (2023-04-21) David Rudmin: It constantly freezes up, and so you have to quick go find the switch to turn it off, and then turn it back on. But you do need it, because otherwise Dragon will double letters, all over everywhere.
- (2023-02-02) Jen Blackstone: I have to restore the Extension at least of once a day. Trying to stay productive as my finger dexterity slides down hill slowly due to Parkinson's. I could not use Dragon for almost a year due to troubles with Internal and external microphone(s). I finally hired a local computer guy to reinstall and fix Dragon, so now it works with my internal microophone and I also can do Zoom again Using the internal microphone.
- (2023-02-01) Alex Ghenis: In addition to everybody else's problems with it crashing– which I've had for ages – the software all of a sudden is making it so that random words have extra letters in them (for example, "prooblems"). This just started yesterday and hasn't remedied itself. At least in the past, it was mostly usable even if I had to restart it every now and then. Now I'm having to go back and edit all sorts of things I write, with my one hand that I can use to type one key at a time, and I'm wasting precious time with work. Just horrible and there's no other real options available.
- (2023-01-20) Steve Stewart: The same as everybody else's complaint. Keeps crashing and requires restarting. Beyond infuriating!!!
- (2022-12-01) Michael Arleth: I injured my hand and about this software to continue practicing law. It is intensely frustrating to open the dictation box everything the time I want to type something into Chrome. The processes slow and rarely responsive.
- (2022-11-04) Kristen Boney: Well, doesn't look like anyone is reading these reviews from Dragon over the past several years. I keep getting a message that the plug-in has been disabled, even though I haven't made any changes. It works almost exactly half the time to dictate in Outlook for Chrome, which is one of the main places I need to use it. Really frustrating that no one at nuance seems to be paying attention to this. Review from 2020- Have never been able to get it to work- I rely on Dragon on my work computer and love it, it's too bad this extension is so terrible
- (2022-09-18) Dougie Sinclair: Everything that everybody has said in the comments I agree withPlus much more I don't feel like trying to dictate. I feel if the company does not even know pay attention to our reviews or update or upgrade the software at all at all. I swore after Microsoft bought them things would change but I guess I was wrong. Yet the same problems in every web browser. EvenOn Microsoft's own the web browserEverything still crashes.. You can even see the errors as I dictate in this review. Good luck and Godspeed. I wish I had another option
- (2022-08-23) Tyler McHaley: I have no trouble with the Dragon extension for Google Chrome. I need to restore it every time my computer restarts, but it doesn't bother me. A couple of clicks is all it takes to get things up and running again. I don't know anything about the crashing that everyone keeps mentioning in the reviews. That's never happened to me. Anyway, I give it five stars.
- (2022-08-22) Matthew Clay: We are done with this software. The Dragon software, its web extensions, and even the drivers for the recommended headphones are unreliable and buggy. Constant crashes, slow performance, strange interaction with microphone drivers, memory leaks, so forth and so on. Have tried many attempts to fix issues, including reinstall on a freshly formatted machine and expansion of system memory. I work in a disability resources office in a sizable college, and I am hearing the exact same concerns from our students that use this web extension, and Dragon software in general. Our students rely on dependable adaptive technology in order to access their course materials. This extension is NOT dependable. Given the amount of time these issues have persisted without a fix, I cannot recommend to students, and we will likely move away from this software as an institution when it comes time to upgrade to newer versions.
- (2022-08-03) Simon Allen: Abysmal. Constantly crashes and on a regular basis I have to remove and reinstall. However whether it's Google that have the issue or Dragon as it is the worst piece of software that I've ever used.
- (2022-08-02) Vinod Raghavan: Keep getting the message " Dragon extension for Chrome has stopped working", re-enabling it is not a matter of just turning it back on as you can only use the dictation box, you have to shut down and reboot for it to work and then it stops again, waiting for my company to move to another platform for voice software, stopped using it in my home pc's.
- (2022-07-07) Bernard Villegas: It crashes multiple times a day. I am glad I spent a small fotune for this program that allows me to become frustrated and angy so often.
- (2022-05-30) John Rasor: Terrible. Completely unreliable, crashes constantly.
- (2022-05-16) Stephanie Kurtz: Rarely works. Quits constantly. Extremely frustrating when using it out of necessity.
- (2022-05-08) John-Paul Lavoie: Makes a Legos website go into a loading loop in the Lego store
- (2022-04-20) Darrell Cartwright: I am not sure that Dragon is responses, and my rating is pretty similar to most ratings here so it may be merely redundant. The extension works… Sometimes. There appears to be no rhyme or reason for when it does. And then occasionally it disconnects, has to be uninstalled and reinstalled. Anytime I have more than just a few words to type, I will just pull up Notepad and dictate into it, and then copy and paste. It's a shame, because it's just unnecessary steps for something that should be straightforward.
- (2022-03-18) Forrest Phillips: I would love to try it, but one of the main things I use on the Internet is messenger. As in, messenger.com. Normally, when I send a message, I just say "press enter". When I try this with the extension on, it just goes to the next line and it doesn't send. I'm going to try to mess around with it some more, but when it makes it so awkward to use one of my main web apps, I just can't use it.
- (2022-02-27) Benjamin Charles: Vraiment pas bien. S'installe mal et ralentit tout !
- (2022-02-17) Gordon Rutherford: It frequently crashes.. It will lock up and the only way to get it to shut down is to restart the computer or go to taskmaster and disable it. Pretty disappointed.
- (2022-02-02) Edward Sharrer: I agree it fails often and disconnects. Annoying!!!!!
- (2022-01-27) Rebecca Parris: This extension is like the little girl in the nursery rhyme; when it is good, it is very very good, but when it is bad it is horrid! I shouldn't have to remove it and then add it back in order to make it work, because it shouldn't stop working in the first place!
- (2021-11-30) Don Ferguson: Microsoft accelerates industry cloud strategy for healthcare with the acquisition of Nuance April 12, 2021 | Microsoft News Center EDMOND, Wash., and BURLINGTON, Mass. – April 12, 2021 – Microsoft Corp (Nasdaq: MSFT) and Nuance Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq: NUAN) today announced they have entered into a definitive agreement under which Microsoft will acquire Nuance for $56.00 per share, implying a 23% premium to the closing price of Nuance on Friday, April 9, in an all-cash transaction valued at $19.7 billion, inclusive of Nuance’s net debt. Nuance is a trusted cloud and AI software leader representing decades of accumulated healthcare and enterprise AI experience. Mark Benjamin will remain CEO of Nuance, reporting to Scott Guthrie, executive vice president of Cloud & AI at Microsoft. The transaction is intended to close this calendar year.
- (2021-11-25) NANCY: I 100% agree with all the reviews I have read so far regarding this extension. It is not fit for purpose! My get around is to call up DragonPad and dictate all I want to say in DragonPad. Then I "copy all to clipboard" and paste into whatever box I need to report. Not ideal but it is my only way of effectively getting text in any form of accuracy. I am very disappointed that Nuance has not seen fit to pay attention to it's customer base and do something about this extension.
- (2021-11-05) Ben Utzer: funktioniert einwandfrei. Dragon Legal Version 15.
- (2021-11-01) Brad D: I think the Dragon product is on its last legs unfortunately. Constantly being disabled with a lack of updates these days. Such a shame. Look for alternatives and don't get trapped with a dying product is my recommendation.
- (2021-10-28) Mees Altena: Literally never ever works.
- (2021-10-12) Xavier Lopez: I'm trying to use Dragon with Gmail on Chrome using this extension, but it never works. It can barely support some dictation with lots of errors and none of the Dragon commands work at all. I keep having to use the dictation box. This removes most of the value Dragon program has for me. How can this software not work at all on Chrome? Please fix this extension.
- (2021-09-30) John Michalik: since I updated the application recently it seems to have difficultty with spelling simple words. I'm dictating this review and as you cann see it has spelt the word difficulty above wrongly but for some reason has thenn spelt it correctly. It keeps adding letters to quite normal words for no obvious reason which means that I need to go back and edit them. It's donee this several times in thiss review which is very odd. Up to now I have been extremely happy with Dragon so I'm a bit frustrated about why iit suddenly gone wrong in a fairly basic way.
- (2021-09-13) mtn k.: DOESNT WORK
- (2021-08-29) Hired Goonage: Works for a few minutes and then goes unresponsive. Unacceptable for the price this costs, and the fact that Dragon Dictate have been around for 20 years or so. Do not buy
- (2021-08-23) David Stallins: This Extension crashes on a daily basis multiple times a day. Must be removed from chrome and readded to get a semblance of it working again. if I get to dictate in the browser and turn off dictation in the Dragonbar when I turn dictation back on and attempt to dictate something in the browser the dictation box may or may not open up. Please fix this as it is almost unusable the way it is/
- (2021-08-10) Kevin Brown: It seems to work fairly well when it works, but it frequently and sporadically becomes disabled on its own so I am constantly having to delete the extension and re-install it. Once I do this, I have to back out of everything and start fresh again or the extension will not work at all or will show the dictation box seems to only work half the time. I have to mess with this reinstalling process of the extension at least weekly and at times up to once every day, even after the latest update. This is very frustrating and I would expect more from a company like Nuance and a product as advanced as Dragon dictation software. I have seen this complaint so commonly in the review section it is completely baffling to me why Nuance does not completely rewrite the extension, or at least fix or update the one already existing.
- (2021-08-06) Christy Marsden: It is very frustrating how poorly Dragon works in the browser, this Extension is pretty much useless. With most of my work happening online, it makes Dragon more frustrating than helpful.
- (2021-07-30) Jonathan Mesiano-Crookston: It's not clear what this does. It lets you dictate at least the commands "click <link name>" and the browser will then click that link. Please note that it is broken, and does not work in many textboxes. You need to dictate into a TEXT window then cut and paste it into Chrome. (Although ironically it is working in this text box.) Nuance will not fix this. They have not fixed this in years. And unfortunately the windows transcription system is much worse than Nuance. So, Nuance is still the best game in town even though it has this critical bug.
- (2021-06-22) Katherine Hooper: Keep having to remove and re-install Like everyone else said, I keep having to remove and re-install. Randomly stops working pretty frequently. Very annoying.
- (2021-06-21) high_rum: The extension continuously stops working impeding productivity. It stops me from doing my work as I need to disable and enable the extension in order to get it to work when I'm writing on a Google doc. The software is supposed to help you focus, but instead I need to change tabs constantly and click on the disabled enable button. It really brings down the entire Dragon experience and undermines its purpose which is to increase productivity. Please fix this or explain why a can't be fixed. Maybe it's a chrome issue. Who knows
- (2021-06-13) Larry Harmon: the extension is disabled so often, and it's terribly annoying to have to keep re-"enabling" it. Some features don't work in Google or Google Docs. Dragon is a great product, but over time, I suspect I will get tired of having to keep finding workarounds and will move to another product unfortunately.
- (2021-06-09) Ben Seigel: Utter piece of garbage. Fails constantly. Don't take my word for it, read the other reviews!
- (2021-04-27) T O: The voice scrolling is bad. It doesn't scroll contiguously and scrolls too quickly. For example when I press the Page Down button on my keyboard it takes 16 presses to get to the page bottom. When I say START SCROLLING DOWN using this extension, it does it in six scrolls because it bypasses parts of the page. And each page it scrolls flashes in one second which is too quick to read what's on it.
- (2021-04-16) Anthony Vallone: Works well for navigating the web. When I say "show links", it highlights all links on the page with a number. Then, you just say "choose number".
- (2021-04-02) Angie Dong: I don't know what it is really meant to do? There is no difference between before and after installing the extension.
