Description from store Simple Blocker is an easy to use Chrome extension which allows you to block websites. You can block specific subdomains (news.google.com) or entire websites (facebook.com) at the click of a button. Simple Blocker was designed with students in mind, but can be beneficial to anyone who has a lot to do and seems to get distracted too easily. Are you spending too much time checking Facebook? Browsing Reddit when you should be writing a paper? In a few minutes, Simple Blocker could be blocking all those websites for you so you can focus on getting things done. Features: - Use the built in Sleep Timer to enable blocking for a set amount of time - Lock yourself out of the options menu with a preset or random password - Clean, simple user interface with an easy-to-use options menu - Block an unlimited number of websites, subdomains, and pages If you really have trouble focusing and want to resist the urge to disable Simple Blocker, you can even block the Chrome Extensions menu, as well as lock the Simple Blocker options menu with a password. This, in addition to allowing Simple Blocker in incognito mode, will make it very difficult to circumvent the blocking features, forcing you to focus on your work. ========== Change Log fix all ========== 0.6.1 -------- -Point all website references to HTTPS version -Update app icon 0.6.0 -------- -Fix bug where back button navigation did not work on "blocked" page. • (2023-05-20) Abazar Maddah: Blocks all websites from a list which you can edit. Free + easy to use + powerful. Just don't forget to press "save black list" each time you edit the list of websites to block.
  • (2023-05-11) Alan deLespinasse: Latest update, version (2023-05-11): Not working at all currently, even if you give it full access to the sites it's supposed to block. It seems like the developer has been iterating rapidly, maybe fixing bugs then breaking it again. Though I still wonder if it's been hijacked. There have been no updates in the change log, and the support site is still down. I think I'm going to develop my own blocker extension, since I can't find any that don't ask for full read/write data access. I'm leaving the other info below in case it starts working again. ---------- (See below for how to disable the scary permission) Very suspicious: This extension suddenly asks permission to "read and change all your data on all websites", after working without that permission for many years. Most other site blockers also require this permission, but at least some of them explain why. I'd go find one of them if you're not already a user of Simple Blocker. The lack of permissions required in old versions was my one reason for choosing this extension over others. I'm very sad; I've been using it for many years. However, you can disable that permission if you want. I'm doing that in Simple Blocker because I already have it set up the way I want it. Open the Chrome Extensions settings page and click on the Details button for the extension (or for Simple Blocker just go to chrome://extensions/?id=akfbkbiialncppkngofjpglbbobjoeoe). Under "Site Access", change the pulldown from "On all sites" to "On click". Note that you have to install the extension before doing this, if it wasn't already installed, and it will be enabled when you install it. If you're newly installing the extension, I recommend closing all other tabs while you do the process above.

  • (2023-05-08) Roger Sellick: I has suddenly stopped working!
  • (2023-05-08) Dylan Montooth: This extension has worked like a charm for me, though just today I noticed that sites and keywords on my list were no longer being blocked despite the extension and its main power switch both being turned on. Other than that, I really appreciate the simplicity. Add some websites/words, set a password, and you're done.
  • (2023-05-08) Julian Bazan Aguirre: It works great, I love how simple is. However this review is because I have some issues now where it suddenly stopped blocking the websites. Not sure why, I didn't change anything. It just simply won't block the urls.
  • (2023-04-30) Chetan Meena: Is it possible to give a user a choice to "block requests to advertise specified websites" ? I feel uncomfortable giving permission to "Allow this extension to read and change all your data on websites you visit:"
  • (2023-04-30) Glenda Robinson: I love the simplicity in both general use and updating.
  • (2023-04-29) Richard Smith: Would it be possible to explain why "Point all website references to HTTPS version" requires the blanket data access permission that is now being requested?

  • (2023-02-28) Nicklaus Deyring: After using several different blocking extensions for Chrome, finally landed on a good one. It does what you want, and doesn't try to upsell you. Simple. Thank you.
  • (2023-02-08) Maxim Pekarsky: After trying other, ad-ridden blockers, I am grateful to have found Simple Blocker. I'm trying to use less social media, and this tool's simplicity and clear UI make this straightforward. Plus, trying to open up social media and seeing a big "THIS PAGE HAS BEEN BLOCKED" badge gives me juuuuuust enough shame in public spaces to nudge me away from websites I don't want to see. Thank you, dev - never change!
  • (2023-02-08) J. Salmonson (darkocean): It's good and does what it says. I personally could use an option to let me know when the timer has ended, like the tab it's on shaking or something.
  • (2023-02-07) Gerzium: Just perfect! offers what I was looking for at no costs.
  • (2023-02-07) Chenlei Liu: 很好的效率插件

  • (2022-03-22) Misery Kira: it doesn't work at all, complex names are bypassed GG
  • (2022-03-20) Shashi Anand: Give us a chance to send donations. I don't think ads would be a good idea. I always look for simple and effective tools. This is just amazing. Love from India and thank you for making this. 💓❤💛
  • (2022-03-04) John Morten Allertsen: Virker utmerket.
  • (2022-02-28) C.D.A: its really good and easy especially the option on and off can be contacted easily. though instead of timer sleep please have the option to turn it on automatically in the timer of 10 min, etc. after switching it off and please make it able that a password box appears in the relevant blocked site so it can be temporally turned off easily
  • (2022-02-18) adham shehab: simple, effective and unlimited websites can be blocked freely unlike other tools. thanks for this great app

  • (2021-12-31) Ibrahim Sharifov: Simple and effective while being free. ^^ Love it!
  • (2021-12-23) Lucifer, CEO of Hell: Does exactly what it needs to. Even gives you some measures to help deter yourself from bypassing it if you want.
  • (2021-12-16) Eric Olson: Great! Does just what I want, especially when configured with regexes.
  • (2021-11-19) Mike D: I like this extension. Can you add option for reverse timer where it turns off the blocker for a chosen time?
  • (2021-11-08) Helen Schimpf: As the name says "simple". But also effective. And it's also not overly intrusive (it requests browsing history which is required, but it doesn't request data from sites (unlike other extensions... I'm looking at you block site).
  • (2021-10-04) Thomas: it is soooo nice it is free i will probably donate but it has saved soo much of my time
  • (2021-09-27) Scott Ott: Absolutely love this plugin. Have used it in all of my browsers across all of my computers. I keep a text file in my onedrive to cart around the block-list. Wish this was available everywhere! Only a couple Features remain to make this perfect: - Synchronization of Block List across devices. (Perhaps to a shared config folder or embedded in browner) - Allow-list to override the wider block-list. (IE, Allow certain sub-reddits, but deny everything else, or search results mistakenly getting blocked)
  • (2021-09-26) Fpunkt Npunkt: simple, works well.

  • (2021-08-09) Ruthra: Works Perfect
  • (2021-07-10) Mike P: Using the blocker with "pinterest.com, pinterest.co.uk" and all the other pinterest sites in the blocker list, I did a google search. It produced MANY pinterest web site finds. So I guess it doesn't work.
  • (2021-06-28) Ignacio Mosconi: Nice
  • (2021-06-27) 天下白: Pretty good. It would be perfect if it can have a hotkey to add the current website into blocklist, or a right button shotcut option.

Blocking of the edge://extensions page used to work, but for the past 1-2 months that is no longer the case. I would imagine the same is true of Chrome's extension page, but haven't tested it.

I use Simple Blocker all the time, but I use it for a number of different reasons, and there are some sites which I want to access for some tasks but not others (e.g. research websites, or websites for a task that I'm not currently working on). It would be great if I could have multiple named lists and selectively block each list individually.
